Yeah, falling naked into a briar patch would certainly end the chase for me.

In summation:
One bush, Two dicks, a hick, and hundreds of pricks.

Sounds like an article about our Government...

police love story ensues.

Bluezmasta - I'm going to make a huge leap of logic and guess that you're a farker around 30 or older. Am I right?

I can't imagine that anyone younger would have heard those stories. That is unless Disney has re-issued them sans the other horrific "Song of the South" stuff.

Disney's buried that one deeper than Saddam's bunker.

SFW o no SFW?
2003-03-26 06:21:32 AM
I would say the briars were the least odd thing about that entire article.

Brer Rabbit's ears shivered. "That's all right, Brer Fox. It'll hurt something awful, but go ahead and skin me. Scratch out my eyeballs! Tear out my ears by the roots! Cut off my legs! Do what'nsoever you want to do with me, Brer Fox, but please, please, please! Don't throw me in that briar patch!"

I don't know if anyone's up at this time of day / night? , but this site can get addictive. See if you like it..

Ya know, Brer Fox, Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear still live on. I recognized them recently in a cartoon my son was watching on television. The cartoon is called "Ed, Edd and Eddie". Not quite the same, but their antics are in there.
2003-03-26 08:13:24 AM
Was there a tar baby involved?
2003-03-26 08:17:14 AM
Let this be a lesson to all of us--don't ever, ever run from the po-lice when your naked and close to a briar patch, unless you want to risk the chance of falling into same said briar patch...
2003-03-26 08:20:15 AM
The under 35 crowd is scratching their heads at us old farts and saying "WTF"?
2003-03-26 08:33:04 AM
Did anyone else see those bunch of scottish idiots on 'famous for dickin' around' on Bravo. The other week one of them dived into a patch of stinging nettles semi-naked.

2003-03-26 08:35:44 AM
excuse me. I'm 21 and i know all about Brer Rabbit.. AND the Fox and the Hound
2003-03-26 08:40:42 AM
That's just plain stupid Lindseyp. Was there money involved or just a "get drunk and stupid" kinda thing going on?

This article sounds like they downplayed it a bit. Being a yankee myself I never REALLY knew what a briar patch was until I went down south. Up in the northern midwest we have pactches of plants with thorns and such that can get pretty thick - but MAN. Nothing compared to some of the crap I saw down south. That crap looked like compressed barbed wire stacked 20 feet high.

If this dude fell into anything like what I saw they probably had to send someone in with a chainsaw to retrieve his scrotum.

excuse me. I'm 21 and i know all about Brer Rabbit.. AND the Fox and the Hound.

Wow, I really am surprised. I haven't even seen a copy of "Song of the South" - *ever*. I don't even know if Disney ever even released it.

Where did you see it Crytatic?
2003-03-26 08:55:44 AM

I actually have a copy of Song Of The South on VHS. It was released in Europe on PAL Tapes, but never here in America on NTSC VHS.

I bought the PAL version (on Ebay) and had a copy converted from PAL to NTSC to play on VCRs here in America. I believe you can still get them.

A GREAT movie, and well worth the price!

I can't believe the editor missed his chance at headline gold by not titling this article Prick gets pricked in the prick

GeorgePBurdell - Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I loved that movie too when I was little. The animated scenes really are classics. It's too bad people today are so "sensitive" that they can't just watch it and enjoy it for what it is - realizing it was written almost 60 years ago in a VERY different world.

Sure by today's standards a lot of it is a joke, but so what? What can you do - deny that people used to think that way back when it was written? It's never a good idea to re-write history, no matter how embarassing it may be.

Haha! I'm from E. Liverpooloriginally. Don't see that tiny town in the news much. Sounds like the typical 'I hate you/I love you' scenario.
2003-03-26 09:45:02 AM
the thornbushes we have in the yard, sport 1 to 2 inch thorns in places. wonder if the briar patch in question is anything like those.
2003-03-26 10:19:56 AM
ahhh Brer Rabbit
that brings back memories.

I'm only 22 and I grew up with those books when I was a kid too. Unfortunately I think they are going to die out with the next generation :(
2003-03-26 10:25:07 AM
I'm 22, and I was read all of the Brer Rabbit stories as a child by my parents.
2003-03-26 10:28:04 AM
GPB - I managed to see it in Japan. Most western movies there are subtitled, rather than dubbed, and it's not that difficult to find a subtitled copy of Song of the South (in NTSC no less :-) )

Skin_ - I wouldn't worry too much. So long as Disney is making a profit off of Zip-a-dee-do-dah, and there are kids who wonder what movie that song came from, it'll still live.

Plus, seeing as Disney has killed their golden cows concerning video releases (Snow White and the Black Cauldron as examples), I wouldn't be too surprised if Song of the South makes a return.
2003-03-26 10:40:10 AM
I don't think they would ever release it over here. Society would throw a rod if they did. I personally don't want to hear some 18 year old high schooler telling me that part of my childhood happiness is, in fact, racist.

Damned know-it-all kids.

I have to add my thoughts to the age of Brer Rabbit. I had a children's book of the story. I'm 28. (Not quite as young as the others, but still under 30).
2003-03-26 01:21:11 PM
Disney kept what it could of the Brer Rabbit story (*cough*Splash Mountain*cough*). It's the rest of that movie that they buried.
2003-03-26 01:29:24 PM
Sure, I know about Brer Rabbit - thanks to Savannah Smiles. Remember? No? Ok.

/crappy sappy 80's flick reference
