mmm, slime gum.
2003-03-25 01:49:31 AM
ecto-cooler is the best hi-c of all time and space!
2003-03-25 01:49:46 AM
what the hell was with the "REAL" ghostbusters? Were there fake ones at one time?

/blurry childhood memories
2003-03-25 01:50:21 AM

agreed! I drank that crap every day in 6th grade or so...
2003-03-25 01:50:39 AM
there were those ghostbusters that had donkey kong on their team. not sure what that show was called though.
2003-03-25 01:50:45 AM
Nice Shootin' Tex
2003-03-25 01:50:49 AM
I used that gum in the tube as toothpaste once

Didnt work to well
2003-03-25 01:50:51 AM
Downstairs - yes, there was a 'Ghostbusters' toon that predated even the movie. It had nothing to do with the more popular Bill Murrayish version, and starred a big gorilla wearing a hat and various cloaked spooks.
2003-03-25 01:51:34 AM
All of it is ghastly stuff.
2003-03-25 01:54:54 AM
I'm more of a Stay-Puft fan, myself.
2003-03-25 01:55:30 AM
Ayup. Somewhere into the movie-based Ghostbusters'... er... 2nd season (?) they had to tack "The Real" onto their opening credits just to keep the lawyers happy, since the not-so-real Ghostbusters series (the ape was named Tracy, btw) had their debut a full 11 years before then.

Apologies if that wasn't coherent, but it is two am.
2003-03-25 01:59:58 AM
The only grosser item on X-E than that gum, is the notorius yet hilarious Fruity Bubble Gum Hi-C. Speaking of which, I saw some expired Hi-C at my local dollar store in a gallon jug. I'm almost tempted to buy it, but on the other hand, it's probably not worth the risk.

by the way Matt, keep up the good work. :)
2003-03-25 02:01:49 AM
It doesn't seem too long ago that I saw this stuff for sale somewhere. I remember considering getting it but I didn't know how that whole 'gum in a tube' idea would pan out. Now I know and Jesus am I glad I didn't get it. Thank you Matt for showing me that I had a good reason to be weary of it.
2003-03-25 02:05:54 AM
Did someone make a new Ghostbuster TV show a few years ago? They were supposed to be targetting to the newer "hip" audience... I remember seeing a poster for it. Some guy with a goatee, a guy in a wheel chair, an african american, and some punk goth girl.

Maybe I'm just dreaming up things again.
2003-03-25 02:09:13 AM
That other Ghostbuster show had a ghost car that could transform into different stuff. I had that for some reason, along with all the REAL ghostbuster stuff (gun with foam ray, the ghost trap that operated on a foot pump, etc...)
2003-03-25 02:11:07 AM
Wangus no you weren't dreaming it lasted about 5 episodes or so it was actually pretty cool. *likes his saturday morning cartoons*

You farkers are cattle...

How did I find out about filters on Fark? By trying to express myself: I tried to type "shiat" and....

Farkers considers themselves enlightened. I consider Farkers naive. Does naive come through OK? There is no filter for naivete yet, right?

fark you. Think free and make music. I hope that you think of Fark as a place rather than a destination.

2003-03-25 02:11:32 AM
Oh my God, I totally had forgotten about the gum. My mom bought it for me as toothpaste when I was real little.

I'm surprised I still have my original teeth since I used that crap for about a week until my mom saw that it was gum. She bout shiat a brick when she noticed it was gum.

For the record, it wasn't half bad. I can't imagine trying it 13 years after the fact though.
2003-03-25 02:14:01 AM
Farkinfool thank you. And don't think of it as getting anally raped by a New York Police officer with a plunger handle for being a useless drifter, think of it as a free colon exam. You wouldn't want to end up like Rudy...

I wish I coudln't remember this. The crappy Filmation Ghostbusters.
2003-03-25 02:15:41 AM
OMG! I remember having that action figure as a kid.
2003-03-25 02:16:32 AM
that tv show from a few years ago was called extreme ghostbusters, it was sorta ok, although it had no chances ever of surpassing the real ghostbusters

also, i had that gum too, and it was good, sorta ate it more than spit it out. i also still have part of the bottle of slimer bubble bath in my bathroom on the counter
2003-03-25 02:17:12 AM
Christ! I had all of this junk!

God bless X-E
2003-03-25 02:20:22 AM
Wow, I think this subject is making me grumpy towards trolls.

Perhaps it was because I didn't really have many toys growing up, other than legos once I was older. Well, no toys that I didn't catch or make myself. Or get by taking apart things so that they were no longer useful for the original purpose.
2003-03-25 02:20:36 AM
I lust for Ecto-cooler!
2003-03-25 02:26:36 AM
Yes, I think it was something horribly titled like 'Extreme Ghostbusters'. Some bits were a little cringeworthy, like the title, and the guy in the wheelchair (Garret? hmm, growing old... grr) you got used to. still. heh.

Anyway, the production and design is from that studio that does a bazillion movie to cartoon franchises, i.e. Godzilla, MIB, etc. They've got pretty decent animators and character design. Then again, I grew up with 70's HB animation, so EVERYTHING probably looks good to me now. ;p
2003-03-25 02:38:42 AM
i'm pretty sure they still make ecto-cooler...don't they? or like, green citrus cooler or something? i'm pretty sure...
2003-03-25 02:43:33 AM
if they still make it its not called ecto-cooler :( I'd still buy it though
2003-03-25 02:43:41 AM
The real crime is that they still make Ecto-Cooler, yet have removed all references to Ghostbusters and Slimer.
2003-03-25 02:46:22 AM
The Extreme Ghostbusters was set like 10 years in the future when the Ghostbusters had disbanded cause the city shut them down or something, but Egon was still in the place and the kids grabbed the equipment one time and went on a ghost hunt or something and from then on they kept at it.

It was okay, but the characters just weren't as good as the original and it was always painfully obvious that they were just trying to market it towards the widest possible audience given that there was an african american, a girl, a hispanic, and a handicapped person in the team. I mean gimme a break!

The guy in the wheelchair never had a problem getting anywhere. He could like fling himself up a stairway if he needed to. And it wasn'r cause he had a super cool whelchair with robot arms or anyhting.
2003-03-25 02:46:37 AM
Oh no...I remember that slime gum..........and I liked it. Ecto-cooler was great too, but that's apparently obvious.
2003-03-25 02:50:32 AM
i worked a winter break a year or two back stocking shelves at an a&p supermarket and i would have sworn that they still sold ecto-cooler in the ten pack juice box things. but, i could be wrong, and even if i was right, i might be wrong by now...but i really thought it was like Monaco said, it was still called ecto-cooler, but there was no reference to slimer or the ghostbusters anywhere...
2003-03-25 02:54:50 AM
Hey cool... and on this note of saturday morning cartoons... I am told that they are bringing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back revamped... Maybe I should start watching cartoons again... If I could get myself up that early.
2003-03-25 02:55:20 AM
Matt needs to do a review of the Bigfoot board game. That game farkin' r0xx0r!
2003-03-25 02:57:11 AM
Wangus, you really don't want that. Think about the new He-Man and Transformers shows on Cartoon Network.

Now imagine they did that to the pinnacle of Saturday morning cartoons, TMNT. Not to mention all the great video games.

It's better that they rest in peace.
2003-03-25 02:59:20 AM
I'm going to watch the new TMNT when it comes out. If it turns out like Sidi suspects, I will personally write a nasty letter to whatever company makes it.
2003-03-25 03:03:03 AM
I still have hope for the new TF Sidi, just look at BeastWars! Started out corny as hell, and over time turned into the best TF series next to G1.
Beast Machines however can toss my salad. Jelly please.
2003-03-25 03:06:27 AM
Hate to take it off topic but there have been no boobies in 24 hours. The natives are getting restless... that is, the natives IN MY PANTS.
2003-03-25 03:07:39 AM

Those farkers better not touch TMNT!

Just imagine! They'll scrap the 80's lingo that farkING DEFINED the TMNT and replace it with shiatty neo-pop refrences! They'll probably make the poor turtles listen to shiat like Avril Lavaigne or whoever the fark she is, and instead of pizza they'll eat tofu!

fark this raping of precious childhood memories!
2003-03-25 03:12:38 AM
Plus, they'll have to have a female character...can't have just April getting in trouble all the time. And the cast isn't diverse enough. They're all turtles and a rat. Plus a white dude. That just won't do, so they'll have to bring in probably a chihuaha...
2003-03-25 03:13:41 AM
We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!!

and Ecto Cooler is the nectar of the Gods. Beverage Orgasm.
2003-03-25 03:15:07 AM
2003-03-25 03:30:27 AM
Ahh, my imagination. That's where I'm a Viking... and so are all the beautiful women who sleep on my pile of money.
2003-03-25 03:31:40 AM
i'd chew it.
2003-03-25 03:31:57 AM
They apparently renamed it "Orange Tangergreen".
2003-03-25 03:44:35 AM
I never cared much for Slimer. I was probably too old for that crap by then. I also never understood the "real" in Ghostbusters, either. Or why they have that red-headed guy in there that doesn't look like anyone from the movie.

2 questions for Matt:

1) Is there any Ghostbusters-related merchandise that you do/did not own?
2) What percentage of your personal estate is Ghostbusters-related? I'm guessing at least 5-10%.

Uglier than I remember him.
2003-03-25 05:26:39 AM
DropOut- I second that Ecto Cooler was the greatest.

Seekohler- I remember that shiat...I saw it once and I protested it because it was crap and didnt watch it again.

ArmyOfFun-Tombstone Tackle...the football player was my favorite one.

God-I am old...please stop it lol.

Moonman9j9 :
The new TMNT has been out for about two months. At first I didn't like it as much as the old one, but now I'm starting to like it better. It's much truer to the comic book and I almost get the feeling they're playing to the older audience that used to watch the OLD TMNT when we were little.

With respect to the article, while this stuff was all cool, did anyone really like Ghostbusters because of Slimer? I was always more of a fan of all the cool "technolgies" they had, like ecto 2 and the proton packs and the PKE meter. Man, I miss that crap.

I really hated, as a kid, when Christmas or Birthday time would come around and I would get the lame "original" Ghostbuster toys because my family didn't know better. At times it was really trying to have to pretend to be excited about getting a "Tracy the Gorilla" action figure or the aptly, and lamely, named "Ghost Buggy". I still have a few of them lying around, including that weird ghost/goth chick and her flying pedistal. They are in a seperate box from all my other Ghostbuster toys though, as I don't want them to blemish the rest of my collection.
