Anyone been to the gov's mansion lately?

My 3rd grade class got taken there in 1968. Stairs on the left of the wrought iron and glass front door. Quaint, as far as gov mansions go.

Same one? Or have they built a new one.

Beasley told the newspaper he doesn't believe he and his family ever ate exotic food while living and entertaining in the mansion. "Our standard meal was a meat and three, what you'd get in a family diner kind of place," he said.

This is why we need to increase taxes. When taxpayers are cheapskates, the budget for these fine things suffer.

Apparently SC faces a problem with widespread alliteration

As Fark's resident Peruvian, any and all farkers who crack Peruvian jokes will be swiftly squished by 2.5 tons of cocaine.

Almost $7,000 was spent for other items such as...truffle peelings, quail breast,...caviar,...rabbit loin,...and other food.

What, no larks' tongues?

biatch, biatch, nag, nag, go away asshat.
2003-03-15 12:29:48 PM
Silly government. I need money for school, and they go and spend it on lobster and alligator tails.
2003-03-15 12:33:01 PM
Peruvian squid tubes are less than a buck a pound.
I am not a fan of tax and spend government, but most of the items listed in the article seem reasonable.
Unless of course, the citizens want to woo outside investment with dandilion greens and chiterlings. We could have Aunt Bee and the gals from the quiltin bee throw a big whoop't'doo up at Mount Pilot and all the Fortune 500 companies will be invited to attend.

naaah, this must be a mistake. Democrats are for the 'common man' and would *never* weasel taxpayers' money.

Did I misread the article, or did Hodges spend $147,000 when appropriated something like $69,000? Either way, he's a scumbag.

Rabbit Loins
Stuffed With Prosciutto and Prunes
from "Wild About Game"
by Janie Hibler

Serves 4
Rabbit loins are enhanced by the sweet, salty, and herbal-flavored ingredients in this recipe. the meat can be stuffed with the prunes and prosciutto up to 8 hours in advance, then rolled in the herbs just before baking, making this a perfect dish for entertaining.

12 pitted prunes
¼ cup brandy
Four 4-ounce rabbit loins, 3/8-inch thick
Coarse salt
Freshly ground black pepper
4 thin slices prosciutto
2 teaspoons olive oil
½ bunch arugula, coarse stems discarded, chopped, about ½ cup
¼ cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
¼ cup chopped fresh basil
1 large scallion, chopped
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Combine the prunes and brandy in a small bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Or, put them in a small pan over medium heat until the prunes are hot throughout. Remove from the heat and let macerate for 30 minutes. Remove the prunes from the brandy and cut 8 prunes in half lengthwise. Set aside 4 whole prunes.

Pat the loins dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper. fold each piece of prosciutto in half lengthwise and place one slice on top of each rabbit loin. At the narrowest end of each loin, lay 4 prune halves, side by side, on top of the prosciutto. Starting at the narrowest end again, roll the loins pinwheel fashion and secure with toothpicks or wooden skewers. Brush the rolled loins with olive oil.

In a shallow dish, toss together the arugula, parsley, basil, and scallion. Coat each loin in the herbs and place in a lightly oiled baking dish.

Bake for 20 minutes. Put the reserved prunes on top of each rolled loin and bake for an additional 13 to 15 minutes, until the juices run clear. Serve hot on individual plates.

Prosciutto and Prunes gets my rabbit loins all hot and bothered

i thought peruvian squid tubes were used as masturbation devices for poor peruvians who can't afford a "Jenna Jamison Life-Like Vagina" or the batteries to run the "life-like" suction. I wonder if the governor was buying used ones or fresh ones? hmmmmmm...

I live w/ having to hear and see what a missuse of our state funds has done. ie. education, alloted fund spending so on.
with saying that I would be no more suprised if I was to wake up with my head sewn to the floor..........
well better luck next go.

Yeah Hodges was a leech. Sanford is pretty good about not sucking taxpayers dry too badly for a Pol, in fact while he was a senator he did not take his housing allowance for a Washington place and slept on a futon in his office instead.

*looks at G0d's post*

Peruvians suck!

/I'll be taking that 2.5 tons of cocaine now, thanks.
2003-03-15 02:09:49 PM
Oh, and what the hell is a Peruvian squid tube?
2003-03-15 03:09:22 PM
Rabbit loins? Breeding those must be really expensive, I bet most of the loins would rather eat the rabbits no matter how horny they were at the time.

What? Oh. Um, never mind...
2003-03-15 03:14:12 PM
Ok, let's get this clear. Hodges may (MAY) have overspent -- the Greenville News is not a bastion of fair and balanced reporting -- but Sanford is a penny-pinching fool. He has absolutely no idea how to handle money. He equates "not spending anything" with "being wise with money" which is absurd. I'm sorry, I WANT my governor's mansion to be outfitted with the very best that money can buy. I WANT the meals served there to win awards. I WANT guests to be rolling in luxury. It makes SC look like the great state that it is, not like some two-bit Wal-Mart knockoff like Sanford wants it to be.
2003-03-15 04:38:48 PM
I really doubt this guy is the only one who does this. We all know the US government spends money faster than they can collect it. Who cares, just pass me the cavior when I am at the mansion, or yeh throw in a woman with that...

Peruvian squid tubes are the "heads" of the squids.
And yes, some fisherman do masturbate with them (after they* are cleaned).
I've never tried it myself but they are the right shape.

Seriously though, while I don't support overspending it would be embarrassing to have "cut rate" gatherings at the mansion. It seems to me though that this could be solved with corporate sponsorship. I've planned events for my former company and I always arranged "free" items to be donated to us in exchange for mention in the program or some other equal promotion. It always worked well and at one event allowed me to provide several dozen guests with new videogame systems.

*(the squid, not the fishermen)

My mother is a state employee in SC. Very few people employeed by the state have gotten raises due to the budget shortfall for 2001,2002, and now it looks like 2003. Thanks "Gov" Hodges. You are a prime example of a democrat.

PS: This asshat (before the lottery was legal in SC a couple of years ago) was going to go across the GA border in a media event to purchase a lottery ticket until someone had to inform him that because of his position it was illegal for him to do that. What a moron. Thanks for scratch off cards though, thats about all he did for SC his whole term.

Hey G0D, how many Peruvians does it take to, umm, err, oh hell, just squash me.

Also, this would make a great contest: Photoshop these "dignateries" at the SC Governors mansion. Dibs on Kodos!
