Humanity sucks. I don't know who is worse, the guy with the gun, or the guy who stepped over the body to pay for his gas.

Stop the ride, I want to get off.
2003-02-17 01:25:14 PM
I watched that video. Couldn't see much.

Does anyone else notice anything odd about what the news reports are NOT saying about this thing? I mean, they're looking for the shooter, right? Don't know where he is, right? So why aren't we given a description?

BTW, I know the answer to the above question. I just want to know whether anyone else picked up on it.
2003-02-17 01:37:36 PM
Also: The police HAVE a description of this guy, down to the description of his hat. So why isn't the press talking it up, kiddies?
2003-02-17 03:05:28 PM
That's todays society for you. I was on my way to work in Phoenix last week and witnessed in my rear view miror a truck spin out of control and end up in a ditch by the side of the highway and in the 10 minutes it took me to loop back around and get to the vehicle not one other person had stopped to help.

2003-02-17 03:23:29 PM
exactly what help can be given to someone who has already been fatally shot in the head?

\just curious
2003-02-17 03:23:51 PM
What the hell can you do for a man shot in the head.

Clean up his blood?
2003-02-17 03:23:55 PM

what are you getting at?
2003-02-17 03:24:26 PM
Damn...I would rush to the aid of anyone I saw who was injured. I used to get off work at about 5 am, and one very very cold morning I saw a homeless guy who was unconscious and throwing up stuff in the parking lot, wet from head to toe, and lying in a puddle of water. Several people who had gotten off the bus with me just walked by him, giving him disgusted looks. I called 911, they said he probably had hypothermia, but sheesh... heartless bastards.
2003-02-17 03:24:42 PM
ass faces
2003-02-17 03:25:08 PM
What they don't tell you is that the guy had sex with his daughters dead body, so it's justified.
2003-02-17 03:25:35 PM
Reminds me of this:

HREF="ese/" Kitty Genovese

Very interesting case and resultant public debate.

Man. Sure is a cheery day on Fark today. I was in a lousy mood to begin with.

Whether or not they could have saved him doesn't matter. He could have been alive even after he was shot; the point is the asshats, like almost everyone else nowadways, are so farking desensitized to everything, it was nothing to them. I would've done something. I try to maintain my humanity on a daily basis to not end up like the asshats. It's like muscle; if you don't exercise it daily, you lose it.
2003-02-17 03:27:44 PM
Looked like a video of people magically teleporting 10 feet at a time except for the one guy who just teleported to the ground.

Call me crazy, but if I'm pumping gas and the guy at the island next to me gets shot in the head.. I'll be freaking the fark out. I'll waiver on the optimism for humantity side and assume the guy told the clerk to call the cops?

2003-02-17 03:27:56 PM
You know, you're doing a favor robbing a fat man...less money for him to buy food...

2003-02-17 03:27:57 PM
He's shot in the head, what can you do for him?
No one wants to get involved, that's the sad part.
The fact that nobody touched the body shouldn't surprise anyone.
2003-02-17 03:29:01 PM
Have you ever seen a guilty bystander?

No, by definition, bystanders are innocent.

People have been shot in the head before and lived to tell about it. Calling an ambulance would have been the decent thing to do, if you were positive he was dead (without actually checking the body) then calling the police would have been the next logical step.
2003-02-17 03:29:27 PM
what zenmaster might be getting at is that it was staged by the police as a demonstration of how people would rather not get involved when they witness a crime in an effort to make us all more vigilant? if he is i can see his point and given how the american government want everyone to be completely paranoid and to report everything that's slightly suspicious i wouldnt be surprised by this kind of tactic
2003-02-17 03:29:31 PM
They should all be hit in the head with bars of rebar. Multiple times. And then set in the street, in a velvet roped area, so no one can help them.
2003-02-17 03:29:50 PM
Is it me, or could anyone else not make out shiat?

I saw a couple blobs that might be people at various points in the video.
2003-02-17 03:30:53 PM
what did we learn today? never trust people with anything
2003-02-17 03:30:56 PM
But if it was a ferret, people would be FREEKING out.
2003-02-17 03:31:15 PM
And my wife wonders why I hate people so much.... Gads, what the fark happened to people's humanity and decency? I mean yeah, some people have always been a bit farked up, but nowadays, it's just disgusting...Everyone please go fark yourself...I don't want to deal with you anymore.
2003-02-17 03:31:54 PM
Creepy conspiracy theory.
2003-02-17 03:32:02 PM
I blame all the news reports and statistics saying that most people injured in violent disputes are people trying to break up fights...that, and the lawsuits from trying to give first aid to someone, just to be sued later on for "malpractice"...

What comes around, goes around...wanna have a friend, be one...
2003-02-17 03:33:26 PM
JerkStore: ...took the words right out of my mouth.

Only in the city where a crackhead can be re-elected as mayor is this possible. I know that where I live, about 30 people would have joined in to: a)chase down the man doing the shooting, and/or b)helping the dude that was shot. Put D. C. on the list of places I never want to live. Oh, wait, it's already there. No need to flame folks, just my opinion.
2003-02-17 03:33:37 PM
43%: yeah you're right. no one seems to even care about this in the thread.

2003-02-17 03:36:08 PM
further proof of what americans care about, petrol.

As An Official Department of Total Information Awareness Agent, I deputize all of of you in this chat room for a 2-week service of duty with Vigilante Status.

Let's get out there and take a bite out of crime! And for jebus' sake, don't get yourself shot!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
2003-02-17 03:36:24 PM
My guess is that this rather un-sensational piece of videotape got lost in the wash of media. After all, the shooting was 31 Jan, according to the article. The next day was the Columbia disaster. Not much chance of getting any play at all, let alone anything high-profile, when that other story was unfolding as it did.
2003-02-17 03:36:39 PM
Ok, pepole suck. I already know that, but you can´t say it too often I guess.
2003-02-17 03:37:41 PM
Well, that, and everyone else is in the necrophiliac thread.
2003-02-17 03:37:47 PM
People are just getting each day more used to violence...
That sucks big time. The least you can do when you see a guy dying is call for an ambullance, is that so difficult?

it shows a suspect running up, shooting Price in the head and then running away.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that that man is not a suspect, in fact I'll even go so far as to say that man is the murderer!
2003-02-17 03:39:17 PM
You know we all joke about how there are 5 of the 9 rings of hell set aside for farkers but I hope if anything like this ever happens to me, I'm surrounded by farkers. Poor bastard. One thing you should be able to count on even from people you don't know, is that we are all members of this club called the human race, and when something like this happens someone's base humanity will kick in and cause them to lend a hand. Even if it's just taking their shirt of and using it to stop the bleeding. While having someone call 911. Or holding their hand while they died.
This pisses me off to no end.
2003-02-17 03:39:22 PM
Godd, don't worry, i'm sure people already hate you
2003-02-17 03:40:12 PM

What powers and duties do we get? Can I have a tazer?
2003-02-17 03:40:28 PM
sad. But this happens every day...
2003-02-17 03:40:52 PM
the question on everyone's mind is: anyone know what the prices are like at this station? i'd step over a dead body for $1.40/gallon.
2003-02-17 03:41:52 PM
Nice detail on that video.
2003-02-17 03:42:45 PM
StomachMonkey Calling 911 to help the vomiting homeless bum is all fine and dandy. But if he had stopped breathing, would you have given him mouth-to-mouth?
2003-02-17 03:43:26 PM
2 bits says that had it been a puppie dog or a rat/ferret injured, people would have been running to save it.

So what do we have so-far today... People die from stampede at club, 4 year old's corpse violated, people look the other way at man shot in head.

Great day for the human race... Way to go humans!

Now, don't go jumping to conclusions...innocent until proven guilty...remember criminals have rights too, you know...maybe the person coincidentally had a heart attack or bleeding head embolism rupture when somebody ran up to him and pointed a gun at him and fired, oh I don't know, a blank, maybe. maybe.

This is what the defense attorney would have you believe, anyway.

It could happen...
2003-02-17 03:45:37 PM
jeez what is this cold, and heartless day on fark? people just stepped over this guy??

one day a lady pulled up our driveway and said there was a guy unconcious in his car about 20 feet from the driveway. i called the cops, a ambulance, and went out to see if i could help the guy. despite the fact that the woman thought he might be drunk... turns out he was really sick and needed help, a cop showed up 2 mintues after i called and the ambulance about 3 after him. they were in the area thank god.
