Not a good way for one of the greatest cars ever built to go out.

2009-06-02 10:46:42 AM
You could buy 10 GT-Rs for the same price and not even notice if one of them caught on fire.

Ow.

Noooo!! Hate to be the adjuster on this one.

Fark it - drop a '74 Beetle motor in it, grab some Bondo from the Autozone and no one will ever know.

/seriously, what a sad way for a thoroughbred to die

2009-06-02 11:35:48 AM
Ouch. That makes me sad.

The guy with the axe was just pissed he didn't get to use it on the car to "save" the driver..

Nah, we don't fool around with axes on cars. That's what the Jaws of life are for.

meh.

If you're rich enough to buy a McLaren F1; you're rich enough to buy a second McLaren F1. Not saying it isn't painful. I'm just sayin'.

They are going to have to find one for sale. It's not like you can go to a corner store and pick one of those cars up.

Yay! This is my second green light related to the McLaren F1.

There are usually a few for sale in the duPont REGISTRY every month.

valued at $2 million and insured for $3 million

Sounds like you overpaid for your insurance.

2009-06-02 04:49:24 PM
This is sad why?

2009-06-02 04:50:30 PM
save the $20 because the car's valued at 2mill and insured for 3mill, saving 20 bucks also netted the owner a cool mill.

/not a bad day's work.

Not if he makes $1 million on the deal... or if the extra mil was to pay for a collision with another supercar.

2009-06-02 04:51:26 PM
Insured for 3 million, meh.. I had a 1/15th scale Maisto replica of one of these as a kid, it was always my favorite. It was silver too, although the only other color I ever saw was a blue on driven by one of the remaining Beatles.

FTA: The car was a total loss, valued at $2 million and insured for $3 million

Sucks to lose the car, but awesome to make a cool mil...

Also FTA: It happened yesterday, when the owner took it out after six months of storage

I can understand not wanting such a supercar as a daily driver, but not taking it out at least once in six months? Not wanting to hear the roar of that V12 just ONCE in six months? Really?

This is why we can't have nice things.

Cry me a river, richboy. I'm sure you have other toys you can play with to distract yourself from the fact that you need tweezers and a microscope to jackoff.

Some insurance Farker can probably correct me, but if it was "worth" 2 mill, he gets 2 mill (assuming no negligence). I can't insure my $2000 laptop for a million dollars and then expect them to pony up the full amount when it "accidently" gets "lost".

I'm more pissed that the teams can't get it together with the FIA over the budget thing. I'd hate to see a two tier system in place for next season.

I had a 1981 Ford Escort that ate head gaskets and warped heads for breakfast. When the heads blew again for the third time I junked the car.

Just because you drive a Geo Metro doesn't mean you have a big pecker. Lay off the hate, you'll live longer. Also, if you worked a little harder and smarter you might be able to afford one of these. I am working to save up for a 69 Dino 246GT, just 21 years and 6 months left at my current rate of savings!

The two tier thing is dead. They are still fighting about where the cap should be, but you can probably expect a settlement around $150million.

2009-06-02 05:01:18 PM
It is only a car. It did not die. It is now just scrap. Not a real big loss in the grand scheme of things.

2009-06-02 05:01:28 PM
Well, I have a carbon fiber bike, hope the chain doesn't catch fire or something. Always wondered if this stuff burns well...

No but you can insure a car for stated value. Get totaled? Thats the amount you get. I have my '65 porsche insured the same way...

It must suck to be mad at other people who succeeded in life.

2009-06-02 05:04:36 PM
Not trying to troll here, just feeling really conflicted about this.

$2M would build a small neighborhood ( 28 houses ) for habitat for humanity. ( at $70K a pop according to HfH )
28 houses.... heck... round that down to 20 houses and make them really nice.

Yes, it's a totally awesome car... back in the day I used to drool over awesome cars. I still hold a special place in my heart for the Lamborghini Diablo even.

But when it comes to when you can actually afford those sort of things, I can't help but think there are better things to spend your money on.

Oh well.... at least the insurance will come through, and no one was hurt.

/Had to have this talk with myself ( on a different, much lower, scale ) a couple of years back when I got the big promotion and needed a new car... it was between the Acura TL, and the Honda Accord. Went with the Accord.

2009-06-02 05:06:25 PM

then you would have a load of low-income housing and no supercars!

how much would that suck?

Why oh why... such a beautiful car.

/sad tag indeed.

2009-06-02 05:15:25 PM
So, what will happen to the car now? It's obviously not a car that can be rebuilt in any true sense. I doubt it would be something to be "parted out". I doubt it would be scrapped. So, what?

I'll bet it was George. He was a huge F1 fan and rewrote "Here Comes the Sun" for a special dedication it to Emerson Fittipaldi.
