I say they haven't fully tested it out until they each get shot by several Tasers at the same time and tased multiple times by each one. If they make it through the 18 or 20 consecutive tasings then they can say it doesn't cause injury.

Not sure if it has enough kick to zap all the way through to the skin. I think it just effects the nervous system but I'm no expert on this.

They are just now getting Tasers? When did they switch from horses to police cars, last year?

The current goes from one contact on the Taser device to the other contact. Those contacts are wired to the Taser prongs; when they connect with something conductive (the target), the current goes from one contact, through the prong, through the target, and back to the other prong, back to the contact (completing the circuit). The person isn't grounded to the ground, but back to the Taser device. Taser manuals tell you to try and get a good distance between the prongs so as to make them more effective (a couple feet of spread is better than a couple inches). If you touched the wires you'd get zapped, but not just holding the subject (might be different if the person is wet or really sweaty, I dunno).

The majority of the current travels from one probe to the other, so to zap all 3 of them, you would have to hit the two outside cops with one dart each, and have a much more powerful taser. I agree with Whiskey Dickens that it would be awesome.

You could apply reason. Electricity follow the shortest path- it doesn't expand out like an EMP.

Yes, it's barbed. They've always been barbed, so that they don't fall out of the target. These actually look less barbed than ones I've seen in the past, probably so you don't have to take the target to the hospital to have them removed.

They are not immediately reusable. The dart pack can only be fired once. The manufacturer may be able to recycle used darts into new dart packs, but they would probably need to be sterilized unless they want to be sued into oblivion.

Notice how the guy being tased is facing away from the guy with the taser, and the two officers holding him up are both wearing safety goggles? And notice in picture 8 or so the ugly looking barb?

TASER International is coming out with a new "crowd-control" taser:

How long until they use one of these at the G8 or a national political convention on an "unruly" crowd, and nail some one in the eye?

i agree, theres a nice old lady in BC who probably wont think theyre safe until these cops zap each other at least five times and put some weight on their heads...

/hippie

2009-05-28 1:44:10 PM

drjekel_mrhyde: WTF That thing has a barb

Yes so they can penetrate clothing and stick into the skin. Without both probes having contact to the skin then the taser is useless as the current can't make a connection.
/Are they sterile

Yes. Each charged is packaged in a sterile environment at the factory.

//Do they reuse them

No. Each charge can only be used once. Each charge also release thousands of AFID tags (which are tiny little papers with serial numbers) that can be traced make to a specific taser owner. Both law enforcement and civilian taser charges do this so if a taser was fired on scene somebody will immediately know.

That tidbit is for those that think people can abuse the use of a taser and get away with it.

At least, for the sake of realism, they could have the guy stand unassisted. Not many folks get tasered like that while two cops hold them and ease them to the ground gentle as can be.

This. I like how the cop says it doesn't allow for someone to fight back. If that's the case, why do they need to blast someonewith enough juice to light Times Square?

Do not forget the additonal three you get after the initial four, after you are handcuffed, afdter you have been nightsticked, and after a 220 lb cop has had his knee on your head for ten minutes. You know, because you cannot get up right away handcuffed and beaten so they taze you some more to ensure compliance.

/watched it happen to a friend
//he was a drunk passenger in a car
///he could not find his ID right away (he was drunk) so the cop asks him to step out and he stumbles towards the cop (due to drunken imbalance) cops taze him and charge him with assualt.
////slashies
