real shaman: They become stripper coke whores......

The economy needs service industry workers to keep going. Its a win-win with the exception of having to deal with the incessant whining of the helicopter engines for 17 years.

Good f-ing riddance.

"But what happens when our daughters get to adulthood and they realize that the world isn't a fairy tale?"

Why, their worldview collapses in on itself, then they lose their way and eventually start slobbing knobs for a $20 crack rock, Mom.

Raise them to be princesses and see how that works out. If they find a dumbass stupid enough to marry them, he'll end up killing himself or her, preferably her.

Disney has farked over so many girls. There are so many women out there with such unrealistic expectations for men that it is ridiculous.

I'm glad I found a women that didn't have a farking VCR growing up. And surprise, she doesn't have super unrealistic expectations out of me.

Prince Charming already has two wives anyway: Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.

FTFA: "For many women, there's still a piece from childhood to want to be a princess," says Mary Beech, a Disney vice president

The Obvious tag was keyed up for this article, but it exploded.

So then how is it that we boys don't grow up thinking we'll be Batman?

2009-05-23 12:14:40 PM
I actually RTFA, and as suspected, it was a waste of time. Am I the only one tired of getting this "recession" shiat bashed into my skull every day?

Every damn commercial prefaces with "In these tough times..." or "With our economy..."

sweet bejeesusing fark. Enough already.

Is the sunny outside? send the spawn outdoors. Is the sun down now? ok come inside, wash your filthy child self, eat dinner, go to bed.

"Invoking Ariel has actually gotten her to try and enjoy eating octopus at a local restaurant," he said.

I wonder if this will get my daughter to try octopus the next time I take her to a Japanese restaurant.

Wrong_Intentions: Some of you do, in a way. Read the article:

It should be noted that, overall, men of that age group still are more likely to exhibit narcissistic traits, including the belief that "If I ruled the world, it would be a much better place."

That would actually take effort. The princess requirement is simply "exist."

2009-05-23 12:16:59 PM
I grew up watching all the princess movies and I turned out fine. Might have been because I was dirt poor and my mother instilled some realistic values in me. Still, I'm glad I have a little boy instead of a girl. He'll be less likely to grow up a princess. Hopefully anyway. ;)

We jump off the house with an improvised batman cape and a string tied to the roof heat vent - learn our hard lessons early in life and roll with the punches from there on out.

Well, unrealistic expectations, anyway.

I grew up reading stuff like Little Women and Anne of Green Gables. I turned out just fine.

Also, imagine my surprise when I learned what happened in the ORIGINAL story of the Little Mermaid.

/spoiler: she didn't make it.

I grew up watching princess movies too. I identified with the princes, who actually did shiat, instead of the helpless princesses. Weird, since I didn't turn out to be a lesbian.

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ! I could only read 2.5 paragraphs of that tripe before I actually felt my IQ points begin to drop.

Who gives a damn if your daughter wants to be a princess? Let her! It's called imagination. Why not just let your child enjoy her innocent fantasy while she can? It won't be long before she grows up, understands the recession, and starts turning tricks for lawn furniture.

Good lord people are retarded. What happened to us?!

Make no mistake, it hasn't disappeared. It's still there, it just adjusted a bit.

Instead of "Daddy, I want 15 Bratz party pretty ponies with matching mp3 player!!"

It's "Daddy, I want 14 Bratz party pretty ponies with matching mp3 player!!"

If the economy goes even further to sh*t, you can guarantee someone is going to b*tch about the particular color of sackcloth their homemade clothes happen to be.

Your princess is some several guys' dirty, filthy, cum-dumpster.

Here's a novel idea, parents: Teach your girls to be independent and successful... not by how much cum they can swallow, but by career goals.

It's like the women's lib movement never even happened.

After awhile you just expect the submitter to have no idea what they're submitting and you ignore the title entirely. There's a small section where they mention it's getting tougher to treat them like princesses because of the economy, but then it's back to what the story is really about.

That's why they love princess stuff

I am SO farking glad they closed down the Libby Lu store at the mall where I live. There's a certain sad or creepy factor when they get the one little girl that shows up at a time, dress and doll her up, then take her out in front of the store to dance with the workers. It looked like it was between a beauty pageant, a strip dance minus the stripping, and the pink light district.

Recently, Disney also came out with a line of princess-inspired wedding dresses, aimed at that age group of young women.

If I see this at the altar, I'm running the other way. I don't care how pregnant I've gotten her.

Wrong_Intentions: So then how is it that we boys don't grow up thinking we'll be Batman?

Probably because it's easier to pretend to be a princess than have a collection of functional Bat-gadgets and a full-blown Batmobile in our parent's driveway. Once mom tells us we can't have a Batmobile, we boys realize the limitations of our desire to be Batman.

Tiaras and dresses can be pretty cheap if you know where to look. A complete Batcave? Not so much.

Meh, some of this amazes me. I'm so glad I'm not like that... but really, get rid of this, you can still instill the unrealistic expectations with a single series of books that recently became popular: Twilight. I cannot name how many girls in my classes that have turned down dates because they want a more 'Edward-esque' boyfriend. And I doubt that's about to fade. The 'princess syndrome' is no longer an issue compared to that, in my opinion.

/Horrible books, too. Only finished the books because I read in very small doses.

Take a trip to Disneyland and you'll see all the princesses going about their castle like they rule everything and the world is theirs. Its sad when they're in their late teens or early twenties.

Eat. Robin. Sleep. Robin. Cave. Robin. Fighting Crime. Robin.

See. There were four of them. haha. oh wait, there will be a fifth one now. Robin.

The same can be said of guys about VCRs and developing unrealistic versions of women.

oflinkey: It should be noted that, overall, men of that age group still are more likely to exhibit narcissistic traits, including the belief that "If I ruled the world, it would be a much better place."

But that is the truth. Why do people hate the truth?

From TFA: It should be noted that, overall, men of that age group still are more likely to exhibit narcissistic traits, including the belief that "If I ruled the world, it would be a much better place."

Dude, if I ruled the world, it would be a better place. Why? Because I comprehend such basic notions as "equal rights good", "punishing the victim bad", "education good", "torture bad", and "putting the common welfare above the interests of my cronies good". But I guess I'm a narcissist for thinking I'd be a better ruler than the shiatheads who don't grasp the above.

Also, on a vaguely related note, if you want a good look at how far our culture goes with disease-ifying everything, look up hypomania on Wikipedia. Classic symptoms of hypomania include mild euphoria, a flood of ideas, endless energy, and a desire and drive for success. I shiat you not. See for yourself. (new window)

This. A little pretend is okay, as long as they are aware of the difference between fantasy and reality. If I ever have any daughters who try to act like a spoiled little princess coont outside of just playing dress-up, they're getting backhanded across the face. If I don't do it, my wife will.

Hiro's Protagonist: Females love social complexity and have a narrative intelligence (in general, it's the hormones)

I've seen way too much contradictory analysis in evolutionary psychology to buy into it, I think. I tend to think the answer is far less complex.

Look, it's easy to be a grifter. It's easy and fun to be the most attractive; to have people fawn over you and do everything for you, simply because you are so awesome. Of course we can argue about what that sort of treatment does to people and to one's intelligence and of course we can all say "well, that doesn't sound fun to me," but the truth is it's an attractive lifestyle for everybody. We all want that sh*t.

If we tell somebody at an early age "you deserve that kind of treatment" they aren't going to respond with "no, I really don't."

That's it blame Disney, not the parents who buy everything their child asks for and will go out of their way to hunt down the 100 Dollar tickle me Elmo, or whatever current Christmas fad toys are on sale.
