GIS for LOTR wedding is here. dear god noooooooo
2003-02-12 07:47:10 AM
I think this is a fun idea. You and wifey and all your friends dressed as characters from LOTR. It would kick ass - but then again I love fancy dress.
THing is, you all have to love the film to death to want it for your wedding. Otherwise you'll back on it....and laugh...yeah, it's just a good idea really haha.

I honestly don't think this is as wierd as I would have 3 years ago. I wouldn't DO it, but it's pretty unlikely I'm going to get married in my lifetime anyhow, so who am I to judge?

If the costumes are well done, they (particularly the bride's) aren't really any worse than the monkey suits people normally wear.
2003-02-12 07:51:28 AM
To add to that sites pain Tokenfemale it was created using FrontPage....

*goes off to disinfect his cache*

If you believe the special edition of LotR DVD then this was happening when tolkien was still alive.....and he didn't like it.
2003-02-12 07:53:16 AM
oh sorry Cormee, I didn't know.
Dammit it just gets worse and worse.

I don't think the girls would look too bad in some of the more generic ones, but the guys look like they should be marrying each other.

2003-02-12 07:59:03 AM
I find it hard to believe that someone lame enough to do something like this could acctually find someone willing to marry them.
2003-02-12 08:00:46 AM
D00d....if my to be wife decided to dress up as leia in golden bikini on our wedding day....well....I wouldn't complain...
2003-02-12 08:01:34 AM
Hey, where is the Bush bashing Greenspan Article gone to??

By the way, what's wrong with LotR attire, never heard of steaming hot elvish love? Sort of a furry addiction I guess
2003-02-12 08:02:32 AM
The dress on the woman dosn't look bad at all...I wouldn't mind a more classic white look in that similar style for my wedding. But hubby still has to wear the tux.
2003-02-12 08:04:25 AM
Dunno, Cormee. The site Tokenfemale linked had a hottie. Well, perhaps not a hottie but I wouldn't mind letting my little Balrog out to play with whatever she had shoved into that dress.

(Back from banishment! wee!)

How about a nice, wholesome,Star Trek wedding in Vegas? Hehe.

I remember reading years ago about a couple that had a "Phantom of the Opera" wedding: when they met, it was at a performance of the Broadway show. And when he proposed to her it was during intermission of one of the shows. A wedding like that, at least the guy is still wearing a traditional tux.
2003-02-12 08:09:08 AM
This is no worse than the people who get married at the renaissance festivals. They are all decked out in costume and have the wedding on the grounds.
2003-02-12 08:22:31 AM
'there had been a shift to weddings with a film theme - and Aragorn, Arwen ... friends are leading the way'

Is the Aragorn and Arwen tradition of marrying your cousin catching on as well?
2003-02-12 08:24:21 AM
Yeah it's silly, but look at it this way, it's what they wanted and it made them happy. If you don't want to do it, don't. Let others be...Me? I preferred and had a traditional wedding, but to each his/her/their own...

2003-02-12 08:32:54 AM
Very well put.
2003-02-12 08:41:21 AM
Can't they at least pick a cool movie like "Shanghai Knights?"
2003-02-12 08:43:06 AM
I would think it's okay, until you see one of those gay unions where it's Gandolf the Grey being married to Sauron. Then you have gone too far

But then, I guess it would be cool, instead of the preacher saying out loud, "if any one objects to this union...", you would be able to get up in front of the bride and groom, slam your staff down on the ground, and yell, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS !"

2003-02-12 08:45:26 AM
Hey, I work for a Renaissance Festival, so I see this sort of wedding all the time. Nothing new.

My wedding was alot cheaper, blue jeans, t-shirt, justice of the peace with nachos, margaritas and a movie afterwards.
2003-02-12 08:55:59 AM
Feh. These folks are just jumping on the band wagon. My Nordic ancesters had LotR "theme" weddings all the time in the tenth century. After the reception, they'd sack Rome. I bet these asshats couldn't even lift a real broadsword. Nobody rapes and pillages like the old days. Losers.

Nothing says your love is wholesome and well-grounded by basing your proclamation of it on a fantasy..
2003-02-12 09:13:43 AM
I never thought I'd say this...but only in Australia...
2003-02-12 09:17:42 AM
Yeah, if it was the one ring the man could get married, put it on and disappear....i'm sure i've read about this somewhere before...
2003-02-12 09:17:57 AM
Ugh. I hate this shiat. Same crap different movie.
2003-02-12 09:19:58 AM
