What else do you expect from a bunch of blood thirsty lunatics who slaughtered an entire region full of people because their imperial sky wizard "promised" it to them?

I'm sure a word such as "swine" has evil connotations, just like saying "snickers" does for other crazy people. And really, with everyone there toting around M-16's and TAR-21's while they shop at the mall, you really don't want to inadvertently make one snap.

... why should it bother us more than any non-kosher animal flu? A pig is non-kosher, but it's not a big deal. Most animals are non-kosher. Pig is the common example, but it's not more of a big deal than say lions, bears, swordfish, owls or albatrosses

Though lion-bear-man flu sounds very deadly.

I understand it in the context of Judaism, but what about the Muslim community? From what I understand, pigs are the scariest thing in the world to them (animal wise).

That's closer to the truth. They can't eat them, nor touch their carcasses, and they do seem to be a bit more touchy about them than we are.

Oh and before someone comes in and says "but.. but.. in the Torah it says that Jews are not supposed to touch pigs either!", no, that's not what it says. We're not supposed to touch their carcasses because it renders us impure spiritually and we need to become pure again if we want to go to the Temple/Mishkan. It's the carcass itself that is a problem.

For example, we are allowed to wear clothing that was made out of pigskin, since it's not considered to be the carcass, obviously.

Pigs are delicious. I don't know why Jews and Muslims have a problem with them, but it's more bacon for me.

So swine flu is engineered by the Christians to take out both the Jews AND the Muslims? Who are we hating at the 5 Minutes Hate today ?

G-d told us not to eat from them. It might be delicious (wouldn't remember it's been more than 12 years since the last time and I never was a fan to begin with) but that's not the point. G-d told us not to eat from it, that's why we don't, that's it. Taste has nothing to do with it.

I'm glad you enjoy it, though!

So how much do you have to cut off of the corpse before it ceases to be a "carcass"? Would cutting off just the head be okay? Or do you need to eviscerate it too? Or does one have to strip away everything *but* the skin before it's not a carcass anymore?

/being a bit sarcastic, but I'm sure that there are people who take this stuff very seriously

Yeah, sure, makes perfect sense. Who could argue with facts like that?

It's processed and turned into leather, it's not an actual carcass anymore.

Because centuries ago pig meat made people sick. So, instead of teaching people responsibly about how to prepare it or avoid it, they made some weird passages in a book about a g-d.

Except that no, you're wrong. Whether it's pig or any other meat, if it's badly conserved in hot weather it will go bad and kill people. Pig meat is not more dangerous than any other meat in the same conditions.
