Well at least in Australia the Howard Government has prepared its people with a national "Anti-Terrorism Kit" that includes a fridge magnet.

I can rest easier now...

You'd be suprised at how effective those items are for general chemical hazards, especially the bleach.
2003-02-10 04:52:22 PM
What's the other option? Give everyone a bio-hazard suit?

Garth Whitty, ...now at the Royal United Services Institute, said: "Sooner or later an attack will get through and the public need to know what to do.

Royal United Services Institute, also know as the United Home For The Mentally Unbalanced.

Seriously, I would think this means you should spend a lot of time in the shower with a *close* friend.
2003-02-10 06:19:13 PM
And some Ny-Quil. Don't forget that. Maybe Day-Quil too.
2003-02-10 06:19:53 PM
What? No morphine? bah!
2003-02-10 06:21:34 PM
is that ONE suit, sponge, bucket, etc for the whole service?
2003-02-10 06:25:04 PM
See! All of your anti-British sedimentary has been completely unfounded.
2003-02-10 06:27:24 PM
The UK??? Sounds more like the French to Me...

"One bleach tablet is prescribed as treatment in the event of a biological attack, with the addition of a couple of squirts of detergent if chemical weapons have been used."

It might work, but I bet that tablet tastes god-awful going down.

As opposed to the UK method, the US method is to spend 1000% more for a 10% improvement.
2003-02-10 06:30:50 PM

The French only have white flags to battle terrists with, that's all they need.
2003-02-10 06:30:53 PM
washing up liquid....heheheh....goofy brits.

and to think they invented the language...
2003-02-10 06:31:12 PM
What, no paper towels???

Actually the germans invented the language, with heavy, French Latin and Norse influences.
2003-02-10 06:33:09 PM
Fark. Find your own stinkin' picture. I screwed up...
2003-02-10 06:33:32 PM
Gotta love that end quote..."sooner or later an attack will get thru and the public needs to know what to do"...

DOH..they will DIE of course...there is no reasonable way of protecting from a biological threat.
2003-02-10 06:34:18 PM
See! All of your anti-British sedimentary has been completely unfounded

WTF??? Sedimentary. Isn't that some kind of rock? Or is it a new chemical weapon?
2003-02-10 06:34:20 PM
That's all well and good, but I prefer some good healthy scaremongering to enable me to stay awake at night.

You there! Monger me some scare!
2003-02-10 06:35:06 PM

Please delete my last post. I am a rambling idiot who has no idea what she's talking about where language origins are concerned

Spongebob Square Pants! Yay! Seriously, though, that sucks.

This has been a test post. I am new.

What, no atropine?
2003-02-10 06:40:12 PM
Government officials admitted emergency plans have not been updated since the Cold War...

So uh.... what good would a plastic yellow suit, a bucket, a jumbo sponge, a bottle of washing up liquid and some bleach tablets have been then? Or ever, come to think about it.

My brother in law used to head one of the military's NBC response teams. The nickname they had for cops & firefighters was 'blue canaries'.

Holy Crapologic attack!

Seriously...What do you tell the public in mass.

"You're all going to turn into festering blisters and burst....uhhh and according to the Queen there's no need for panic."

That's why one must liquidate even the 'potential' threat of such a thing.

/Walmart has a sale on Yellow Slickers...damn I love those price choppers.

Seems I might need all that millenium crap I bought after all.

Gotta restock the tequila though, somehow that all disappeared last summer...
2003-02-10 07:03:17 PM
This sounds more like the equipment list for a German porno.

Especially at an ammonia spill.

You know, I was watching CNN yesterday. They ran a piece on finding a cure for, get this, SMALLPOX. This is the same virus that Bushie wants to have millions of people inoculated against.

Maybe they didn't know. Smallpox is dead. It is gone. It is no more. Has been for over 20 years. If they hadn't nailed it to the perch it would be pushing up the daisies. We already know, and have executed, the cure: it no longer exists in the wild, ANYWHERE. All that remains is laboratory samples, and that in only a few labs because of the Level 4 Biohazard security necessary for storing and working with the stuff. Cure for smallpox==an autoclave and a few gallons of Clorox. And don't give me that crap about "but think about the genetic research that could be done on it..." Bullshiat. Smallpox's real use as a weapon far exceeds any research potential it might have--save for, perhaps, engineering a way to make it a STRONGER weapon.

Am I missing something here, or what?
2003-02-10 07:23:45 PM
Run away! Run away more!
2003-02-10 07:23:49 PM
If the UK Gub'mint really wanted to help prevent illness due to biological agents they would equip their citizens with FARKin' Crest and toothbrushes. They might not have more folks survive terrorist attacks but, those that succumbed would make for more attractive corpses.

Smiles everyone, smiles! :-D
2003-02-10 07:29:14 PM
A quick websearch reveals the depth of this nonsense.

What? They say that the last smallpox stores--which only the USA and Russia are known to have, hm hm hint hint see who is missing from that list--right, the entire Middle East--were NOT destroyed when they were supposed to be(last year), because labs wanted to do more research on anthrax.

WTF? I don't get it. If you want to study anthrax, study anthrax. Where does smallpox come into it? And if only the USA and Russia have stocks of live virus...who, exactly, is supposed to weaponize it and use it as a fount of terror and disease?

Makes my head hurt.
2003-02-10 07:38:16 PM
Dammit! Tribs beat me to it!
2003-02-10 07:45:31 PM
Ishidan, Did you say CNN, don't tell me you actually believe those fools. If they ran a newspaper it would be between The Sun and The Weekly World News. CNN is ranked right under The 700 Club in my opinion.
2003-02-10 07:47:14 PM
We can't kill off smallpox entirely. Its DNA may contain the cure for cancer. Or blue roses. Or telekinesis.
2003-02-10 07:47:23 PM
Wow Ishidan is hostile.

Note to self: DO NOT mention smallpox at next fark party.

And about the topic-
My emergency response includes:

running around and screaming "were all gonna die!"

But these guys sound well prepared to work in a peep show as a jiz mopper.

The hell with defense- Yao vs. all
2003-02-10 07:54:41 PM
thank you Psychonaut! bleach mixed with certain other cleaning liquids be extremely toxic. doesn't seem like a good solution to chemicals imo.
2003-02-10 08:01:47 PM
WTF is right. Thats what I get for using spell check. Sentiment was what I was shooting for there. I blame the public school system and Microsoft.
2003-02-10 08:18:59 PM
Should just duck and cover...that always works...

Young_Fart can think. Danger. Danger. Must flame Young_Fart.

Lots of interesting stuff in virus research. My favorite is the whole anti-aging thing. Now women are injecting their foreheads with deadly botulism serum which removes wrinkles. Ewwwwwww. I think I'll wait for Young_Fart's blue roses and telekenisis.
