2003-02-07 10:32:56 AM
Why couldn't it take out Cream of Wheat? I actually like oatmeal.
2003-02-07 10:33:08 AM

2003-02-07 10:33:14 AM

2003-02-07 10:33:39 AM
That's my point. How do you know what Tasty Wheat tastes like?
2003-02-07 10:33:39 AM
Holy shiza, I can see it out my window...I just live right around the block!
2003-02-07 10:33:54 AM
"Government officials have recommended that President Bush raise the national threat level to "orange" -- the second highest level, sources tell CNN. Details to come."

Think this is why?
2003-02-07 10:33:59 AM
Just in time for breakfast!!!

Quick. Somebody burn down a Starbucks.
2003-02-07 10:34:00 AM
Teehee - Quaker Toasted Oats
2003-02-07 10:34:21 AM
For today, the spelling is pooridge.

2003-02-07 10:34:32 AM
Man, my roof is on fire! And it smells like burned oats! Yuck!
2003-02-07 10:34:50 AM
2003-02-07 10:34:54 AM
Why is this "news"? The article says that they already have the fire under control.
2003-02-07 10:35:24 AM
Oatmeal cookies, anyone? And round up Mrs. O'Leary's cow . . . we'll need milk.
2003-02-07 10:35:45 AM
2003-02-07 10:35:50 AM
mmm, I think I'll have the cinnamon apple instant oatmeal this morning in honor of the plant.
2003-02-07 10:35:55 AM
It's a very scary sight. I got off the el south of the fire. I didn't know what as happenin, but a cluster of buildings two blocks from the fire were invisible in the smoke from the Quaker fire.

The smoke rose, went over Michigan, and dove again once it was east of the Avenue. Very spooky looking.
2003-02-07 10:36:02 AM
*insert Wilford Brimley reference here*
2003-02-07 10:36:07 AM
Looks like the Habanero flavor oatmeal isn't going to work out.
2003-02-07 10:36:14 AM
They must have been using the stovetop instructions. This type of thing never happens when the microwave method is used.
2003-02-07 10:36:20 AM
I work in a high rise across the river. Looks like it's under control. But there was a huge amount of smoke about a half-hour ago.
2003-02-07 10:36:21 AM
Kewl! I can see the smoke.
2003-02-07 10:36:39 AM
2003-02-07 10:36:39 AM
The oatmeal is burning like a spider dangling over the burning fires of hell.
2003-02-07 10:36:43 AM
Bah! plant, building, its all the same.
2003-02-07 10:37:18 AM

Mitch_better_have_my_bunny: They don't actually process oats in that building, do they? Flour dust is extremely explosive - I would bet oat dust is similar.
2003-02-07 10:38:58 AM
don't forget to stir after 1 minute
2003-02-07 10:39:09 AM
They'll need a lot of milk to put that out.
2003-02-07 10:39:13 AM
2003-02-07 10:39:19 AM
DownWithPeaNuts : Hrm. OBL said the streets of America would turn red from the blood of infidels.

Nothing about the streets turning white from rivers of Cream of Wheat.
2003-02-07 10:39:34 AM
As the fire was brought under control, the smoke turned to white (pictured, right)and a smell of apples and cinnamon was reported as far away as Lake Michigan.
2003-02-07 10:39:41 AM

1. Somebody save Wilford Brimley!
2. Looks like the let Wilford's contract expire.
3. Wilford and the Quaker went round for round, a pure battle amidst the factory blaze.
2003-02-07 10:39:44 AM
On the up side, all the firemen at the scene will be regular for a month just from the fumes.
2003-02-07 10:39:49 AM
It's over now. By the way, the NBC reporter was Dick Johnson.

Some parents should be shot.
2003-02-07 10:41:06 AM
Hey, myself and StrikitRich posted to just add water at precisely the same INSTANT. Oh, do the oatmeal jokes never end?

Instant...oatmeal...well, I thought it was funny.

2003-02-07 10:41:10 AM
No, it's the old Quaker building, they just call it the Quaker Tower still. It's really got nothing whatsoever to do with oats, or Quaker.
2003-02-07 10:41:15 AM
What building are you in? I'm at 111 E. Wacker.
2003-02-07 10:41:24 AM
was anyone else hopeing, maybe just a little bit, that some quakers were attacked by terrorists?
2003-02-07 10:41:48 AM
Fire marshalls are questioning Cap'n Crunch.
2003-02-07 10:42:00 AM
Is this terrorist related? The heathen Quakers have offended some group. Crap.
2003-02-07 10:42:11 AM
Ididntdoit, any reason for the Jonathan Edwards reference?
2003-02-07 10:42:17 AM
can the firemen to put out the flames with milk? OATMEAL FOR EVERYONE WEEEE
2003-02-07 10:42:33 AM

2003-02-07 10:42:33 AM
Wilford Brimley surrenders!
2003-02-07 10:42:57 AM
Probably the work of culinary terrorists pissed off at the homogenized crap they pass off as middle eastern cuisine.
