Holy Shiat! That thing is farkin' creepy looking.

FTFA: "The creature is covered with nasty bristles that sting and can cause permanent numbness in humans, the newspaper said."

One more reason to never set foot in the ocean.

What stygian depths does that nightmare come from?

Seriously. Something that chesw through coral, 20 pound fishing line and chows down on fishhooks- oh and a an added bonus can cause permanent numbness in humans?

Hopefully I can forget about this horror before the summer starts.

Here you go. Bloodworms! (new window)

They are common in marine waters, and you've probably had some wiggle against your toes when wading at the beach. Striped bass love em.

I just watched it last week as well. Something we were all commenting on is how short Ron Pearlman is compared to every one else in the movie. And he isn't short at all. Next to Robert Ulrich, John Matuszak and Anjelica Huston.

Anyone else think of this when they saw the pic?

2009-04-03 2:07:50 PM
Huh.

I wonder how it manages to cause permanent numbness in humans. Why wouldn't there be an antidote or treatment of some kind?

On the other hand, permanent numbness sounds pretty bad, so much that I'm surprised I haven't heard reports of however this thing does it being weaponized.

Hell, you never know what you're going to step on or near in there...especially with the water these days.

If I can see the bottom, and see that there are plenty of other people who are not being eaten, I'll usually give it a shot, though.
