So, if there's nothing at all on that site, it will fit the headline perfectly.

Crickets use cups?
2003-02-02 06:27:52 AM
Sorry to notice that there are a few here already Captinspliff. It says quite a bit about their mental age.
2003-02-02 06:36:56 AM
Cricket is kind of like baseball, right? But with more rules? And is somehow even more boring and obtuse?
2003-02-02 06:42:42 AM
Well I know heaps about cricket, being an Aussie you sorta have too, playing it in school, during summer, etc. but it is very very

tokenfemale i kinda agree, but when you are in london, even lawn bowls and darts is captivating with an aussie about to win
2003-02-02 06:56:56 AM
Cricket is awesome! Go Aussies!
2003-02-02 06:58:06 AM

the only thing you have to know is that England are shiat and they'll loose.... AGAIN!!!!! why are we SO shiat at sports? we bloody invent them and then get a whole six-pack of whoop-ass opened up on us every time we try and play them! the only thing England has a chance with is the rugby...
2003-02-02 06:58:44 AM
yes cricket is awesome.
2003-02-02 07:07:28 AM
Actually England has no chance at rugby either, last time they played in Aus in Aus they lost 76 to nil. They are never any good down in the southern hemisphere.

Stop being a dick* and get behind your teams even when they aren't winning. Supporting them means more when they think they'll lose.

* The word dick was used in a totally inoffensive way. Don't take offence
2003-02-02 07:12:28 AM
At least it's not another boring as shiat Basketball or Gridiron story. Duke may suck, but not as bad as petty local sport stories.
2003-02-02 07:22:52 AM
Only three countries are in true contention for the cup.

Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Same can be said about the rugby world cup.
2003-02-02 07:34:00 AM

I prefer Locusts far more interesting.
2003-02-02 07:35:30 AM
The only cricket i do enjoy is the village stuff.

It does'nt really lend itself to international compotition.
2003-02-02 07:37:01 AM
Cricket is that British game derived from baseball right? They even pitch the ball on ground instead of straight strike, jesus the brits...
2003-02-02 07:47:30 AM
yay for britain! yay for the united kingdom! i love you my american cousins but i am a british guy and i love my country. what's wrong with that?
2003-02-02 07:54:09 AM
I can't wait.

But Australia's picked the wrong team. Steve Waugh should be there (a ton against Tasmania today), and so should Greg Blewett. Simonds and Harvey have been given too many chances already.

We're taking too many injured players into the series.

South Africa and Sri Lanka should be the favourites, with New Zealand as dark horses.
2003-02-02 07:55:25 AM
Actually Tenebreux you are absolutely right. I couldn't give a rat's ar$e about some dumbass Duke thing. Yay for cricket!

I get really cross when Fark spends ages and ages on topics that are not internationally relevant. Grr I wish I had thought to ask on that "Ask the Fark Admin Question Day" how many Farkers are not US based.
2003-02-02 08:01:22 AM
Lolz you were probably trolling but I took the bait

Cricket's origin is obscure. Evidence suggests it was played in England in the 12th-13th cent., and it was popular there by the end of the 17th cent. In 1744 the London Cricket Club produced what are recognizably the rules of modern cricket.

Baseball developed from variations of the English game of rounders, from related regional and local games, and from children's games like "one old cat," all of which had evolved through centuries.

Natch only Beven and McGrath are carrying injuries.

Symonds is there 'cause he can cover 12th man very well as a fielder but I do agree that Blewett should be there as our allrounder now Watson has hurt his back.

So I click on the link because the icon is of the Weekly World News, and I thought I was going to read something funny and interesting. Boy was I in for a surprise.
2003-02-02 08:29:44 AM
tenebreaux: I would say as many people on Fark would care about some shiatty little college football game as much as the world cup

You have to remember that Fark is US-centric
2003-02-02 08:44:03 AM
Like in rugby, only the southern hemisphere countries really stand a chance, meaning Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, and Namibia and Zimbabwe don't count.

South Africa has a great team, and are playing at home, they are my favorites to win it.

Go South Africa!
2003-02-02 08:50:43 AM
Warney's arm is what worries me, Bongomanrae. Not to mention Bevan's leg and McGrath's back. Things are going to be pretty dire if we lose them. Look at what happened to the England team in 2002-03.

Hayden might be looking over his shoulder for hit squads from Mugabe if that stupid idea of playing in Zimbabwe is enforced. I still can't believe that teams actually have to play there.

Here's everyone's teams for the series - including the Canadians. Better luck next time to all the USA cricketers.

(Farkers aren't US-centric. Anyone who posts here has a bigger world view than just that.)
2003-02-02 09:04:47 AM
Where is the American team? Canada qualified?
2003-02-02 09:11:45 AM
"IN a major upset, Kenya defeated the West Indies in Poona, India. Fittingly, it happened on February 29, April Fools Day. To top it off, the West Indies won their next game against favourites Australia."

Isn't April Fools Day usually April 1?
2003-02-02 09:44:03 AM
Cricket's been around a hell of a lot longer than baseball Lolz.
And it has a World series (world cup) that actually involves more than one country. Amazing i know.

All I have to say is:

2003-02-02 10:21:34 AM
Jeez, I wasn't trolling. I searched google, lots of hits. Hmm. I always thought it was just some obscure game played by clubs and such. Oh well.
2003-02-02 10:30:51 AM
It is aphalling that there enough people playing to warrant a championship. Now, there are enough people that want to watch this?
2003-02-02 10:38:12 AM
Why World Cup Cricket rocks because (in no particular order):

1. Fans are encouraged to drink.
2. Beer is cheaper at cricket matches.
3. Chance to rub shoulders with Bobby Mugabe
4. Fat guys (Zimbabwe's team) actually have a chance
5. It's yet another sport that England can come into with high hopes and choke big time.
6. The chance to watch Shane Warne get Tendulker, Dravid and Kumble out.
7. Hot Aussie chicks losing their better judgement on large amount of Pimm's.
8. It's okay to wear zinc oxide and not look like a complete tool.
9. Obscure rules allow countries like Sri Lanka to actually be a world power.
10. The white trash dude behind you isn't making "If I were the coach" kind-off a$$hat comments.
11. Once you're out as a player, it's time for a smoke, a martini and a chance to catch up on some television.
12. Nymphomaniac cricket groupies
13. More overacting than a soccer World Cup.
14. Idiotic Americans like me can look like smart-a$$es when we can comment about obscure sports like Rugby 7's, takraw (i.e. think volley-hackeysack), curling and Aussie Rules.
15. Did I mention you are encouraged to drink more during cricket.
2003-02-02 11:04:38 AM
I'm American and I care more about the World Cup than I do about some stupid college game. The diffrence appears to be that I have never once gone into one of those Duke Sucks threads and whined about how much I don't care about college games. I do it in the cricket thread. =)

During the SuperBowl I laughed when Madden said that it was a "World Championship" I'm pretty sure that America is the best in the world at football, but it can hardly be called a World Championship if we don't have teams from other countries playing. (A few Canadians and a center from Sweeden dosn't count). Anyway, huray cricket! Huray cricket posts!!!!

Just for you:

You have two teams, one in and one out. The team that's out goes out and the team that's instays in, except for two guys who go out. The guys who go out are in and they stay in until they get out and come back in again, and the next guy goes out. This goes on until all the guys who were in have been in and out, at which point the team that was out comes in and the team that goes in comes out. Sometimes you get guys still in and not out. When both teams have been in and out, including the nots outs, they do it all again.

2003-02-02 02:38:38 PM
South Africa v New Zealand final. Kallis bowling to Cairns needing four off the last ball. Smashes it into the stands.

.....Wakes up

I support two teams in the World Cup. New Zealand and anyone playing Australia...
2003-02-02 02:42:54 PM
its nice to see since my original comment lots of people posting who actually are interested in cricket

Come on England and the Barmy Army
2003-02-02 03:52:42 PM
Cricket is the greatest game in the world and one of the most popular too - Sachin Tendulkar is the biggest sports star in the world (looked up the population of india recently?). The strength of the indian batting line up is awesome but they always underachieve away, especially on bouncy wickets. Austraila are past their best now, and will miss the hard headed experience of Steve Waugh, but will still probably win. South Africa always find some way to lose the close ones and have a mental block when playing Australia and they're just not good enough anyway. England will be destroyed i'm afraid. The boys must be exhausted after such a long gruelling and ultimately unsuccesful tour down under. We haven't picked our best team either. How can ALLY BROWN, the best one day batsman in England over the last ten years, the man who holds the WORLD RECORD one day score made just last year, not get a game? Nasser's always been in love with Ronni Irani but Irani played in 10 games in the VB series and averaged seven! Bring in Ally and we'd have a chance. Maynard as wicket keeper too but i'm just dreaming now. Cricket is to baseball as chess is to draughts - sorry, checkers. Not everyone in England is a football loving moron - cricket rocks.
2003-02-02 05:13:31 PM
Let me see a Cricket batter hit one of Roger Clemens or Randy Johnsons fast balls then I will be impressed.
Rugby and Aussie rules and Hurling have my complete respect.
2003-02-02 05:29:13 PM
Screw Clemans. Pedro rocks.
