So, Mr. Bush's policy of not talking to them has worked out rather effectively after all.

sigh

Well, Bush did say that Iran would not be allowed to get a nuk-u-lar weapon on his watch.

His watch is over, so...

What a wonderful President he was. Gosh, I'll miss that little guy.

What's funny about this submission is that there are red-lit links surrounding this one, yet the news-flash admin hasn't come to handle this one yet.

Must be using boost mobile.

Because the Bush administration spelled Iran with a Q instead?

Bush should have invaded Eyeran when he had the chance.

But they are promising to use it for peaceful purposes only.

Bucky Katt: Bush should have invaded Eyeran when he had the chance.

Nothing is stopping him from invading Iran now. He would just have to go by himself, but I'm OK with that.

Well they only flight-tested them in 2004 so it's about time..

I just wonder how long the North Koreans are gonna jump up and down with Their nukes before anyone goes "Umm.. what's that?"

2009-02-19 11:06:14 PM
ONE bomb? assuming they use any of it for nuclear power (which they in almost all certainty are) then soon they won't have enough for ANY

It's not our problem that Iran has a single warhead. I'm sure the Israelis are already on it. And if not, meh. You nuke Israel and you just pushed back the Revelation a few generations. So win-win.

Of course not, Bush doesn't speak Persian. C'mon, there's only so much a president can do, do you really expect him to learn Persian?

Nobody with any credibility was talking about Iran, just the US... we've kinda cried wolf about yellowcake as justification for war before... so that was that.

What do people think Iran would do with a nuclear weapon? Bomb Israel? They have over 100 of their own to destroy Iran with. Sell it to terrorists? The US would respond in kind. The people in Iran like being in power too much to use nuclear weapons.

2009-02-19 11:09:36 PM
i'm sure israel can handle themselves fine. they do have nukes already.

This isn't a big deal. I'm sure it will amount to nothing. If I'm wrong, may we all be die horribly as nuclear fire rains down from above somehow.

Iran is getting a nuke, there's nothing we can say or do about it to stop them from getting it because it's just a matter of time. The only options we can hope for are the following:

a)Israel grows some huge titanium balls and bombs the crap out of Iran

b)The international community tells Iran that if terrorists get their hands on any nuclear device with a "Made in Iran" stamp on it, prepare to reap the whirlwind

c)Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, minus the crappy visual effects

If 20 years from now history has proved that President Bush was actually an insightful, forward thinking President who tackled the right issues, I'll cough up a furball on the spot. But so far it looks like he was wrong on too many things.

It's a negotiating tactic.

The UN isn't going to care unless they actually use it. Then I'm sure the same apologists here will somehow excuse it.

Actually, I'd bet you they'd give up their nuclear aspirations if we lifted the trade sanctions we've imposed on them.

It's amazing what the ability to make money will do for people's attitudes, and they've got to know that Israel has enough nukes to reduce them to a shiny black spot in the middle east.

Yeah.... what could one one nuke do?

Ohh.... wait.

Seriously, awhile ago it was, "Listen to Bush, he's just trying to instill fear in people with all this 'Iran wants nukes crap'. He's nothing but a fearmonger."

Now it's, "Bush let them get a nuke! Why didn't he do anything about it?"

FTFA:

They said Iran had accumulated more than one tonne of low enriched uranium hexafluoride at a facility in Natanz.

If such a quantity were further enriched it could produce more than 20kg of fissile material - enough for a bomb.

"It appears that Iran has walked right up to the threshold of having enough low enriched uranium to provide enough raw material for a single bomb," said Peter Zimmerman, a former chief scientist of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.

I see. So, submitter, they don't have the uranium to build a nuke. They've got years of work ahead of them before they've finished enriching it enough to do anything.

But of course, a sarcastic attack on the UN and the allegation that zomg Iran has nukez brings in far more pageviews than "After many years of work Iran finishes with the easy part of building a bomb."

There's a simple way to force their hand on this "oh, guys, it's just for electric power" nonsense: Offer to give them reactors that run on low-enriched fuel and don't produce usable plutonium. Either they accept our gracious offer or it's obvious they only want a weapon.

Honestly, one nuke doesnt scare me... they could either test their design, prove it works, and have no nukes... or they could just build a missile and hope it works... given that most first-time tests are failures... it's not such a concern... two would be pretty dicy though.
