Prince Harry may be a jerk, but I bet he's fun to party with.

/very un-cool, royal dude

So this isn't about his "Paki friend", or his marijuana use, or his underage drinking, or his public drunkenness, or his dressing as a Nazi? Well let's take a look at some of those past events anyway just for the hell of it:

blue-blooded aristocracy has out-dated and often derogatory opinions of minorities? you don't say!

C'mon people, the comic didn't sound black. If you think black people and white people sound alike you're wrong. It might have been bad if he'd said, "You're very well spoken for a black chap", but he didn't.

Huh. Well, that's a pretty thoughtless comment, but everybody knows that people often sound "black." Even white people, sometimes. The comedian took it as Harry saying he should sound uneducated and use bad grammar.

Not grammar, but accents. Are we now not supposed to mention that many, many black people say "ax" instead of "asked?" I don't think I've ever heard anyone except a black person pronounce it that way.

And in other news--Prince Harry's getting to look more like his father every day! If Grandma gets tired of his antics, she can always just disown him. It's not like he's ever going to be a king or anything, anyway.

Newsflash: Black people come from many different places. The comedian took it as Harry thinking there was one accent that's "black". Or many accents. Anyway, it was stupid as shiat.

I hate to defend him, but we've all been there, unless you are some kind of prude. Who hasn't made a racist remark or gotten falling down drunk. Dressing like a nazi isn't even THAT bad if it is for Halloween or something.

Not a good retort for a "comedian." I remember when comedians used to roll with the punches, racial or otherwise, and not get offended so quickly.

"Racist" or "racial" remarks. There's a difference, idiots, and since I didn't see any proclamations that one race was superior to another it has to be the latter. Open a book, libtards.

Big freakkin' deal.

He's a normal guy born in to a bizarre reality.

In most cases black people sound different from white people, and it's not a matter of grammar, word choice, or whatnot. There's a different tonal quality to the voice in most cases, and I'm sure you've been able to discern the race of a person based on voice alone before. The first time you heard Rick Astley sing, you thought he was black. Admit it.

You know what is funny? Listening to a black guy from England talk. It blows my mind every time. Definitely not what I am used to.

Don't Care. Never saw anything offensive with anything he's done.

Nazi Costume: Seen plenty of comedy sketches where actors are dressed in Nazi Uniforms. Costume parties, expect anything to be expressed. I loved the "Abortion" guy with a rubber house attached to his abdomen.

Drunk: who hasn't been for the most part

Under Age Drinking: see previous comment, replace "been" with "done it"

Using the term "Paki": never heard of it until this occurred. Call me an inbred southern redneck cracker hillbilly. unfazed.

Don't Sound : big deal, you don't sound like the majority of said gender, race or religion that I've been around. Would have been more offended if he had said "You suck as a comedian. Change your career now!".

2009-02-11 12:37:47 PM
Henry's big problem is that he lets himself be to public.

Very little he's said or done has been bad unless people are looking to be butt hurt about things.

OOO he went to a costume party dressed as an SS oficer, not the greatest taste perhaps but means nothing.

He mentioned that a black-guy didn't sound black once again its not like he's belitting people he's commenting.

Prince Harry in trouble for racists remarks

I don't see how that would necessarily be bad, so long as he spoke negatively about said racists.

2009-02-11 12:39:34 PM

firefly212: Meh, I don't see anything particularly racist about that comment.

To be clear here, part of the comedians "bit" is to start off in a pretty heavy jamaican accent, then switch over to a non-accented english later in the act... so for someone to observe aloud that there is a difference is not only inoffensive, it's pretty much the point of the schtick.

2009-02-11 12:39:34 PM
Thats quite a stretch...

2009-02-11 12:40:41 PM
There was nothing racist about Harry's comment. The racism is in the projecting of his critics.

2009-02-11 12:40:41 PM
I dunno. Some black people tell me that I "talk black". I never thought it was racist.

Nonsense.

deltabourne: So if I say to someone they don't sound American I'm wrong because there are many American accents?

That's terrible logic. Americans live in America, where there is at least a limited number of possible accents. There is no possible limit on the number of accents a black person could have. There is no way that sounding like a "black" makes sense.

Imagine the reverse-- imagine that in America, a black person with a British accent gives a speech, and is told he doesn't sound black. That would be just as ridiculous.

2009-02-11 12:44:32 PM
I heard Henry the 8th spoke poorly of the commoners too.

Hell, I was born and raised there. I new a guy with an uncle oil that worked on an earl rig. When his hands were dirty, he would wrench them in the zink. He went to the store to make groceries.

And they pronounce Calliope phonetically. Cali-ope rather then ca-lye-oh-pee. The same with Terpsichore, terp-sick-or-ee rather than terp-si-chore. Yet he could properly pronounce Pontchartrain and Tchoupitoulous correctly

On a side note, there is scientific evidence to suggest that blacks have a different sounding voice than other races. Prince Harry for President!!!!!

susler: You don't sound Jewish. OK

Not okay. Jews come from all over the world as well. There's no way to "sound" Jewish.

You don't sound like you're from South Carolina. OK

Yes, for the reason I outlined above.

You don't sound like a Woman. (Maybe) OK

Completely not okay.

You don't sound WASPY. OK

I'd take it as a compliment, but since it would imply that someone was assuming I should sound WASPy, not okay.

You don't sound Irish. OK

A great example of "not okay", actually. A lot of Irish have rather subtle accents, and telling one of them that they don't sound Irish is a great way to get your ass kicked.

You don't sound Black. RACIST

Yes, but it's casual, don't-give-a-shiat racism. Nobody is saying Harry wants to string up blacks, they're saying he makes incredibly ignorant statements that shows he doesn't really care about politeness or decorum.

This is not Nam. There are rules.
