Thanks, furiousxgeorge.

You see that, cons? Want to stop the recession? Then you better start shelling out food stamps. That's right, you sanctimonious biatches...food stamps.

But that would, you know, feed poor people and all, and the Republicans certainly are against that. Jesus tells them so.

He's really going for the suspense on this one. I bet he'll keep up the charade until the last week of his presidency, then he'll give us one more head-fake... he'll do something tricky like telling us he's going to nuke the mid-east to get our support and send troops there, and at the last second nuke Israel instead.

The moniker of "pork" is outdated these days. Hell, improving U.S. 31 will create jobs....and for each job funded by the government, that will create more jobs.

Mmmm, bacon.

It's right, though. Just because I'm teetering on the edge between quitting school and being able to just eke by to get it done doesn't mean people could use some extra Pell funding. I mean, we don't really need any more nurses around, do we? And my 13-month old? Pfft, she should get a farking job if she wants food. I mean, if I was "personally responsible", I wouldn't have decided to go back to school conveniently when the credit markets decided to freeze halfway through my bachelor's degree, meaning there were no other sources of student loans available.

I'm sorry, Republican Jesus. Please forgive me.

2009-02-10 5:32:09 AM
So according to this author, any project that benefits a specific area or region is now considered wasteful pork? This is just ridiculous. The example that he and Obama use, improving roads and bridges near the city he was speaking in, is just one part of the huge amount of money in the bill dedicated towards improving infrastructure in places all across the country. That is NOT pork. Pork would be if their local congressman threw an earmark into a huge defense spending bill to do this.

2 out of 10? Come on, I deserve more points than that, especially because that sentiment was expressed to me almost exactly recently by one of our friendly neighborhood Fark Independents. I mean, if I have to drop out and am saddled with student loan debt with no BSN, it's my fault because the bankers we paid a bajillion bucks to bailout won't write a goddamn student loan to anyone, even with a FICO score of 797

Or maybe you could have been "personally responsible" by keeping your jeans zipped up until you had your schooling in and then had the baby when you could afford it.

Pork is earmarks amended to legislation by individual members of congress to 'bring home the bacon' in the form of government funds to their home districts. There are no earmarks on the stimulus bill, therefore there is no 'pork-barrel' spending here.

Unless you Republicans want to totally change the meaning of the metaphor, your argument against this bill is as meaningless as your rationale for war in Iraq.

Meh, that's nothing. Where was the outcry over the 2.3 trillion that the DoD "misplaced"?

It's funny thinking that it took a relatively minor sum of 700 billion going to banks before so many people started giving a damn about spending.

I was actually starting to believe the Republican meme that there was a lot of pork spending in this bill. Now that I have read that they consider spending on roads in an infrastructure bill to be pork, I am starting to realize that I probably should not listen to them at all. I really did know better. Old habits are just hard to break.

Abuse of the word 'fact' is becoming obscene.

1. There's nothing factual about the word pork. It's a farking euphemism for 'spending I don't like'. And the shiat the AP listed sure is addressed by this statement:

"Why wouldn't we want to make that kind of investment?"

2. Two of his appointees, former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle for secretary of health and human services and Nancy Killefer as his chief compliance officer, dropped out after reports they had not paid a portion of their taxes.

Which is exactly what he said jerk off.

3. Job creation projections are uncertain even in stable times, and some of the economists relied on by Obama in making his forecast acknowledge a great deal of uncertainty in their numbers.

I'll let the Obama answer this one from the same press conference, addressing this very lie of omission.

"I don't have a crystal ball."

I hate the AP.

xtragrind: I can't believe he actually said there wasn't pork...

Maybe you have no farking idea what pork is. Spending money on roads in an infrastructure bill is not pork. Creating government jobs in a jobs bill is not pork. If Republicans want to have a discussion on the role of government they can. We actually had this discussion for the last two years through a Presidential election and more people decided that we want the government to have more of a role. You lost. If our ideas are so horrible, then let us implement them and in 4 years you can run against us. Until then just STFU. We gave you 6 years of deregulation and privatization and it was an absolute failure. It was so bad that a jumbo size Bush budget could not keep things afloat.

2009-02-10 8:34:38 AM
It is almost like the government is trying to spend a lot of money in a hurry to stimulate the economy, or something.

Where the hell are they supposed to spend the money that wouldn't be considered "pork"? This is like a giant version of Brewster's Millions.

2009-02-10 8:35:55 AM

rathoth: Nonono. The government just creates work, not jobs

If temporary work is not a job then we need to reset the unemployment rate to about 43%. About a third of workers are independent contractors.
