YAY, green text on a black back ground. Good thinking
2003-01-27 12:30:07 PM
Good Jooooooeeeeeerrrrrrrb!
2003-01-27 12:31:22 PM
Hey, this TV has words on it.
Nice interview.
2003-01-27 12:34:16 PM
I'm glad this was posted instead of an article about Hans Blix reporting to the UN.
2003-01-27 12:35:02 PM
... Anyone else NOT like Homestar? The only thing I ever liked on that site was the Anime E-Mail, and only 'cause it was so true.
2003-01-27 12:38:14 PM
Umm, farked already?
2003-01-27 12:40:18 PM
Yup, farked.

Homestar is too freakin' funny. I mean, not every single little thing about it is funny but in general it's an internet stand-out amidst a sea of crap.

"Welcome to homestarrunner.net! It's dot com!"
2003-01-27 12:40:35 PM
would somebody PLEASE explain to me what exactly is funny about strongbad. i'm trying here. i really am. i watch them. i don't laugh. i meditate on how anyone could laugh at something that lames this hard. i fail to achieve the enlightenment i seek.

anyone? WHY?
2003-01-27 12:44:09 PM
Waffle house. or wiffle ball.
2003-01-27 12:49:44 PM
Ah do what ahm told.
2003-01-27 12:50:09 PM
Dimarco I'm not sure it can be explained, humor is so subjective after all.

I didn't think Homestar was funny at first, but now I love it.

2003-01-27 12:50:25 PM
Dimarco. It's easy, just move along to the next article. If you like that one, write up a comment or two.
2003-01-27 12:52:36 PM
people either find Strongbad "laugh-out-loud" funny or they don't find it funny at all ....and as an individual you wonder about the sanity of the other group.....

thing is.... I know which group I would rather be in... for 2 reasons:
1. I like to laugh better than I like to complain about stuff not being funny
2. If I find it funny then I'm not going to have this sneaking suspicion that perhaps I've missed the point...

and no.... the point can't be explained.... if you explain and pull apart a joke it puts you on the same level as the German who incessantly tells poor jokes to prove that "vee germans haf a cense ovf humor - ja?"
2003-01-27 12:53:17 PM
Aren't all the smelly Homestar snobs supposed to tell Dimarco that he "just doesn't get it, and that an Adam Sandler movie is more his speed"?
2003-01-27 12:54:36 PM
i know humor is subjective and can't be explained in that way.

i guess i'm more getting at what Ivantsp was talking about: i have this sneaking suspicion that i've missed the point, and i'm hoping perhaps someone can give me a clue of some kind...
2003-01-27 12:58:42 PM
Hhey Dimarco, if you don't get it you never will,

Why not go rent Happy Gilmore or something will ya?

(that good Way Cool?)
2003-01-27 12:59:05 PM

Taste and humor vary. Its not like one thing is funny to EVERYONE.

For example, if I were to say "I enjoy listening to Moby", then about 5,000 boobs would post their opinion as fact, such as "Moby sucks and so do you", or maybe "My favorite band sounds better than Moby!" etc etc.

Different strokes for different folks. I find Strongbad humorous, and so do a lot of other folks, it would seem.
2003-01-27 12:59:17 PM
Are Homestar and Adman Sandler at odds somehow?

I think Billy Madison is one of the funniest movies ever, and I like Homestar, so what?

I guess I just like to laugh is silly things.

2003-01-27 12:59:34 PM
Let me try another angle:

Dimarco, did you ever watch SNL back in the 80s? Remember the skit Sprockets? (aka THE GREATEST SNL SKIT EVER!!!!)

Did you watch Dieter's antics and go "this is sheer GENIUS!!!" or did you scratch your head and go "I just don't get it at all. What is this?"

Yeah...well...Homestar Runner is like that: an acquired taste that, for those in the know and are clued into that type of humour, is immensely entertaining.
2003-01-27 12:59:39 PM
hey bgn, why the hell did you go and start trying to capitalize words, then screw up twice

two h's, and a comma instead of a period, god what an idiot, stfu, go away asshole
2003-01-27 01:00:08 PM
Dimarco: For me, strongbad reminds me of my days in high school. When we used to make up ridiculous shiat in media class.

We once did an animation titled "toezilla" which was a giant toe at the end of a leg, and the toe went around and kicked down buildings.

Now, the whole point of toezilla was to make fun of one of the crew that came to school in sandals once, and we pointed out the excessive size of his toes.

Now, compare something like that to, say, Trogdor, and you'll get the picture.

"And the Trogdor comes in the nighttttttt."
2003-01-27 01:02:15 PM
What brought on the idea of the easter eggs (the duckpond simulator 2600, 'everybody to the limit', the secret Strong bad menu, etc. ).

The secret Strong bad menu??

How do you get that? Heh, I feel like I'm missin out now. :P
2003-01-27 01:04:54 PM
Dimarco: Try these links, are they funny to you? To me these are really amusing (links open in new window)

I like random humor, like Zippy the Pinhead. I'm not big on bathroom humor, but it has it place.

2003-01-27 01:05:04 PM
Dimarco: like AbbyNormal already pointed out, humor is just subjective. for example, what do you think of weebl and bob? I've watched a few and I just don't find them amusing, just as you don't find Strong Bad amusing. soooo, I don't know, just find something else if you don't like Strong Bad.
2003-01-27 01:08:06 PM
Sprokets was funny, but I think it's because of the monkey. Monkey is a funny word, and adding a monkey to any situation adds humor!

I always liked Tippi Turtle a lot. From the more recent SNL I think the best bit has to be "Nick Burns, your Company Compter Guy". Goth talk was good too, but I think only to goths.

I find the cheerleaders most unfunny, but I seem to be in a minorty on that one.

2003-01-27 01:09:43 PM
hahahaha monkey

the only thing funnier than the word monkey are monkeys with big shiny red asses
2003-01-27 01:10:11 PM
What I find really makes Homestar funny in the constant self reference, and the running gags.

In order to really "get it", I'd recommend watching the King of Town (not that funny, but it provides setup), Good Jerb, The Halloween Episodes in order, and then the emails in order. Marzipan's answering machine is also good, but not really neccesary. Keep an eye out for potential easter eggs, or cheat and just hit the tab key to have clickable areas hilighted for you.

The music videos kick.

Sorry to say it, you (other) rabid fans, but the rest of the cartoons aren't that funny, and don't have that many in jokes.

Of course, there's also the fans who like Homestar CAU5E OV 411 TEH FUNN4R VOIC4RRR!111!~, but there is more to it than that. Plus, there's the potential for a kids tv show in there, hopefully later than sooner, so that way I would have podlings by then that I can put in front of the TV and have StrongBad raise them for me. (and for the humor impaired, that was a joke)
2003-01-27 01:11:37 PM
Funny words:

Any combination of the above = instant hilarity!
2003-01-27 01:13:50 PM
A Homestarrunner kids show would rock!

I'm just praying Barney will be dead and burried by the time I have kids!

2003-01-27 01:14:29 PM
okay. so the answer to my question seems to be that you need to have seen most of them to get it, i.e. that it's basically a series of running jokes that i haven't seen the beginning of.

that's all i wanted to know. y'all don't have to get so damn defensive, jeez. :)
2003-01-27 01:15:49 PM
The_reverend you have to say the secret phrases in the homestar/strong bad talker in the games section. i dont tell the secret phrase since it took to long to figure both of them out.you will see a star when you get the correct word and word order.
2003-01-27 01:20:44 PM

Judging by your list, you must be a Letterman fan...
2003-01-27 01:23:08 PM
Anomie: It's creepy, I think Letterman is spying on me! Him and Scott Adams!
2003-01-27 01:24:09 PM
AbbyNormal: Shouldn't that list be credited to Scott Adams or something?
2003-01-27 01:24:30 PM
AbbyNormal: You forgot Dave Barry
2003-01-27 01:25:03 PM

You have to add 'Titmouse' to that list. That would round it out nicely.
2003-01-27 01:26:49 PM
I think some people just find the same things funny, and fixate on the same words as being funny.
2003-01-27 01:27:05 PM
FARK! Beaten to the punch by a whole minute!
2003-01-27 01:27:19 PM
That pie thing was.... ummm... I tried to find it funny, but it was just plain weird.
2003-01-27 01:27:27 PM

Funny, I used to think Letterman spied on me... they'll give restraining orders for anything these days.
2003-01-27 01:28:48 PM
I'm as happy as a little girl.

Some people hate British humour, it just doesn't tickle them. Whereas everytime I watch that guy explode in The Meaning Of Life, I piss myself laughing. It's not clever, or tasteful, im not British, nor can I relate to exploding men, but I still find it funny.
2003-01-27 01:36:56 PM
I think Monty Python's fish-slapping-dance is the greatest example of bizarre humour.

I have no clue why its so damn funny.
2003-01-27 01:49:34 PM
I mustn't have been paying attention either since I missed the Easter Eggs... geez... time to go poke around...
2003-01-27 01:52:33 PM
Why is Strong Bad funny, here "Ali.....Ali's sister....Ali....Ali's sister" DELETED!!!!! HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
2003-01-27 01:56:13 PM
The fish slapping dance is genius! So is the Gumby Flower Arranging sketch.

Speaking of very good sketch humor, I must highly reccomend The State.

More than 10 years later my friends and I are still quoting this show!

2003-01-27 01:59:02 PM
Can someone link to the strongbad menu? What about the site you get when you e-mail strong sad?
2003-01-27 02:13:26 PM

Dammit, AbbyNormal, I'm considering it your fault I'm downloading stuff instead of working on my programming project. :-)

Now, excuse me, but I got two hundred and forty dollars worth of pudding to attend to...
2003-01-27 02:22:06 PM
they mentioned Steel Pole Bathtub and that is cool.
2003-01-27 02:27:20 PM
"shamless commerce"? Yeah, that is rare.
