There was pretty noticable audio lag in my area (K.C.). It was almost like watching "Iron Chef" in parts. Plus, there were quite a few signal droputs.
2003-01-27 02:30:43 PM

God bless the CRTC.

Hey Joedesi! I see you're from Hamilton too!

See Shania Twain lip-sync with digital perfection!

I've always said that it's never truly a Raiders game until Jon Ritchie is gratuitously bleeding from the forehead.
2003-01-27 02:33:20 PM
Henchman: Yep, same problems here.

I don't know why ABC is getting the nice publicity, though. Their broadcast was pretty sucky compared to the ones CBS did in HD all season.
2003-01-27 02:34:24 PM
The most exciting game yesterday was NCSU vs. UNC

"Who cares. Now, how good would XXX p0rn look on HDTV?"
It would be about 5 minutes of crystal clear estacy.
2003-01-27 02:35:24 PM
I think the best thing about the HDTV broadcast were the HD ads for The Matrix, Bad Boys II (even though that will suck), and Charlie's Angels.
2003-01-27 02:35:31 PM
because the super bowl SUCKED!!

(keep in mind I am a redskins fan,....yeah, I know)
2003-01-27 02:35:42 PM
That makes him "blue collar", right?
2003-01-27 02:36:08 PM
...waits for HD racing coverage.

But yeah, football is a pretty good venue for it. The resolution and general technical quality are already vastly superior to most other regular def stuff, which is rather remarkable given the horrid nature of NTSC.
2003-01-27 02:36:25 PM
CBS does HD better. The article didn't mention the fact that there was noticable sound lag. Many sound and occassional video problems. ABC doesn't have a clue how to mix sdtv with hdtv successfully. They also don't mention that they cut off the top part of the time remaining.

The movie trailers in hdtv with 5.1 sound rocked though, but those were the only commercials in hidef (well except for the one for ESPN HD)

Calcium deposits my ass. Those are horns.
2003-01-27 02:36:59 PM
That forehead bleeding thing was pretty farking gross.
2003-01-27 02:37:14 PM
I love how the link after each image they describe goes to page after page you have to click to until eventually you wind up with an image that isn't the one they're talking about. Way to suck, Yahoo!
2003-01-27 02:37:48 PM
I think NFL Films has a contract with The Raiders stating that in all Raider postseason games there has to be at least one player with blood on his uniform.
2003-01-27 02:38:14 PM
Redundantman01 Shania Twain isn't real, silly. It's a robot!!
2003-01-27 02:38:25 PM
At least they didn't show someone spitting up beef jerkey......
2003-01-27 02:39:08 PM
anyone got a pic of them, for an underpriviledged(sp?) UK farker?
2003-01-27 02:40:49 PM
umm, I meant the guy's horns/forehead, whatever. Honest. God, I'm having an off day/week/year/lifetime
2003-01-27 02:43:56 PM
I can't find one, Madcap
2003-01-27 02:45:05 PM
it wasn't bad until they actually showed the shiat on the windsheild.
2003-01-27 02:45:46 PM
I was stoned and still didn't feel like eating for hours

Question: Which is better;HDTV or Plasma ?

Sorry, but HDTV is a pretty much unknown concept in the UK at the moment?
2003-01-27 02:46:18 PM
I can't afford HDTV you insensitive clod!
2003-01-27 02:47:33 PM
send me funds for an HDTV.
2003-01-27 02:48:15 PM
HDTV is probably the only home-entertainment item I'm not jealous of. There's no way I'm buying a $6000 TV to see beads of sweat on someone's head, one day a year. Call me when the analog broadcast no longer contains the score.
2003-01-27 02:48:48 PM
"Question: Which is better;HDTV or Plasma ?"

That is 2 totally different things. Plasma is a type of TV. HDTV represents the higher resolution.

link-pic request:

Jon Richey's forehead-resident calcium deposits

2003-01-27 02:49:41 PM
DogsBollox: Plasma is a display technology, HDTV is a transmission standard. So, you can have a Plasma HDTV. It's more Plasma vs. LCD, in which case Plasma is better.
2003-01-27 02:49:57 PM
"There's no way I'm buying a $6000 TV"

What year are you living in? HD capable tv's don't cost 6 grand, they haven't for years. You can get a good one for 2k or less.
2003-01-27 02:50:49 PM
porn + plasma+hdtv= calcium deposit
2003-01-27 02:51:05 PM
the HDTV broadcast was WEAK at best..

the sound seemed like we were watching an old kung-fu movie, the sound was off and faded in and out, most of the replays were not HD and the picture went out a number of times...

worst super bowl HD coverage evar!
2003-01-27 02:52:15 PM
I got paid to watch the game on a 14' wide screen. Not HDTV, but then again, who cares.
2003-01-27 02:54:50 PM
**Super Bowl-watching party**

WTF - around here we just call them Super Bowl Parties
2003-01-27 02:55:12 PM
Who cares? I'm not going to pay that much for a HDTV when there's still nothing worth watching on TV.
2003-01-27 02:56:35 PM
watching CBS's coverage the past 2 weekends was awesome though. HD makes a world of diference when it's done well..
2003-01-27 02:57:05 PM

(checks circuitcity.com) True. Everyone, please replace the 6 in my above post with a 2. Everything else will stay the same. Thank you.
2003-01-27 02:58:03 PM
Christ, I hope this is photoshopped...
2003-01-27 02:58:06 PM
Interesting...I didn't have any audio latency issues. Looked fine to me. The only gripes I might have were the occasional frame dropouts (thanks Time Warner NYC!) and having to listen to John Madden spew his normal unthinking nonsense about replays that were going on in the standard definition stream, while we HDTV watchers were watching something else. I sure wish that farkhead would retire. He's like an NFL Harry Carray(sp?) but on national television...no disrespect meant to you Chicago farkers.
2003-01-27 02:58:31 PM
Ha Ha Ha ................ Raiders got their old washed up ass's kicked by the mighty (and superbowl champs) BUCCANEERS

HA Ha HA eat sh*! Raider fans
2003-01-27 02:59:20 PM

ahh, I've seen it. That's all that matters, right?

for those of you who can cut and paste...

Bought my 27" HDTV Monitor three weeks ago for $699. Works great with the progressive scan DVD player. Too bad HD isn't available in my area except via satellite dish.

Oh and the unfortunate part about owning an HD set and watching the Super Bowl on regular analog TV was that you get to see how ABSOF'ING CRAPPY ABC's regular broadcast of the Super Bowl was. Artifacts everywhere, static galore. Just atrocious. I'm glad as HD phases in that ABC hasn't made any effort to fix their always bad quality regular broadcast of the biggest game of the year.

Oh and Cablevision sucks too. Thanks.
2003-01-27 03:08:21 PM
What are we looking for on that picture? Does anyone have a clear example of the "deposit"?

Heard thst stuff was nasty....
2003-01-27 03:20:33 PM

Does that tune in HDTV, or do you still have to buy a seperate $400 tuner? I've noticed a lot of movies actually look worse in progressive scan. They get a shimmering effect around high-detail parts of the image. Have you noticed it too?
2003-01-27 03:21:29 PM
Thanks Zed and Mccallcl.
2003-01-27 03:23:56 PM
There was pretty noticable audio lag in my area

oooohh, thanks for pointing that out. I was ready to rip all the cables out. I thought it was my setup. I run it all through the PC and back out to the Plasma.
2003-01-27 03:24:33 PM
when was the super bowl?
2003-01-27 03:27:33 PM
Oh and you only need to BUY a hd tuner if you want to pull OTA broadcasts down. Otherwise you can get it with just renting a cable box through your provider or a box through your satellite provider.
