They put the request in on January 27th.

January 27th, 2009--just to be clear.

"O.M.G.--we haven't received an overnight reply to our request for a large amount of complex data; it's like living in Nazi Germany!!!!!!"

This is going to be one of those "I can tell instantly who hasn't bothered to RTFA" threads, isn't it?

Um, the request was filed YESTERDAY.

So if I'm to understand the article...

1.Congressionally committee asks for data regarding which securities were backed by bailout money in the last two months on the 27th.
2.By the end of day on the 28th, no response yet.
3.Bloomberg puts article about this online at noon on the 29th.
4.Subby cums in his pants

Is this the timeline?

Pretty much THIS.

They asked about the past two months, which was Bushy days, so they're probably still digging through a lot of stuff and figuring out how the old guy did it, along with figuring out how they're going to do it, etc.

Then again, the Republican party has become the tantrum party of late, so what else do you expect.

FTFA: Bloomberg News asked for details of the lending on May 21 and filed a federal lawsuit against the Fed Nov. 7 seeking to force disclosure. The loans were made under the terms of what became 11 programs in the midst of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. Arguments in the suit may be heard by a judge as soon as next month, according to the court docket.

Yeah, sounds like whoever was in charge in May is responsible for the info not getting to them... that was Obama, right?

2009-01-29 2:06:57 PM
Wow. Misleading headline and here come the haters to chime in with their typical tired old mantras.

Maybe we should wait more than one or two days before we conclude that Obama has no intention to disclose? He's got 20 days to respond to a FOIA request, and you retards are calling him out after ONE FARKING DAY?

Get a brain, morans.

TFA: Bloomberg News asked the Treasury Department Jan. 26 to disclose what securities it backed over the past two months in a second round of actions to prop up Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc.

1) They asked for the data two days ago.
2) They are asking for info pertaining to things that happened largely under the Bush administration. Hopefully they kept better records on this than they did on the Guantanamo detainees (new window)

/not likely

Snot Monster from Outer Space: "O.M.G.--we haven't received an overnight reply to our request for a large amount of complex data; it's like living in Nazi Germany!!!!!!"

To be clear, if this was Nazi Germany, they would have received the info by now, in triplicate, stapled perfectly, not a page out of order.

2009-01-29 2:11:49 PM
Bloomberg News asked the Treasury Department Jan. 26 to disclose what securities it backed over the past two months . . .

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner (confirmed on Jan. 26) is already failing. Impeach him!

So what would be a reasonable amount of time for the Obama administration to put this information together?

One would suspect that since they have to dig through the documents made and kept by the Bush administration, at least 2 or 3 business days would be the minimum, no?

FTA:

Bloomberg filed a FOIA request yesterday for the list of what was covered by the Citigroup and Bank of America guarantees. Bloomberg asked for records on the fees paid by banks to the government, which securities were rejected for guarantees, as well as any contracts for data services and experts to assess the value of the securities.

Under the information law, passed by Congress in 1966, Treasury has 20 working days to respond to Bloomberg's request. The measure allows nine exemptions, such as trade secrets or national security, for blocking disclosure.

But that's way after this FTA:

Bloomberg News asked the Treasury Department Jan. 26 to disclose what securities it backed over the past two months in a second round of actions to prop up Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc. Department spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said Jan. 27 she would seek an answer. None had been provided by the close of business yesterday.

Fark Bloomberg.

Maybe if they had been doing their jobs as analysts and journalists we might have seen the bubble coming. Instead they played the part of Wall St. mouthpieces, They told us to keep buying long after they should have known better. They all did. Traitors.

So color me surprised that they publish a piece that implies that Obama is somehow hiding something.

I'm SO disappointed. His fail is complete. It's the end of the republic. We'll all be living in caves by the end of the year.

2009-01-29 2:16:10 PM
Bloomberg asked for details in May. Filed a suit in November. Asked again on the 26th, received a "we're working on it" on the 27th, found that SOME information was put up on the website on the 28th.

Jesus...they've already apparently received more response in two days than they did from the prior administration gave them in over half a year.

2009-01-29 2:16:50 PM
Huh...my first thread opener happened in the Political links, not the Geek links. Amusing.

Anyway, back on topic, can we give the guy more than a few days in office before going off on a tirade that he isn't open about things?

If the treasury department under Bush didn't keep those records, it might take a while to piece it all together. How is that Obama's fault again?

In Obama's defense, he *does* need time to do some focus group research before he gets back to the media.

Just sayin'.

Here's another bit of fun, more than halfway down the article:

"Late yesterday, Geithner's office put hundreds of pages about the fund on the department's Web site."

That's not transparency? Did treasury say they wouldn't publish the requested information?

This is just more faux outrage.
