He does that. Ever seen him on Bill Maher? I never understood how he dated/married JLo. She doesn't seem like the kind of person that would enjoy economics or politics.

He is just absolutely unbearable to watch on TV or a movie. UNBEARABLE.

Bad Affect and Keanu Reeves should be in a movie together. The intensity of the suck would destroy the universe and the banking problems would be solved.

So how did we got into this economic mess.

We spent too much, borrowed with abandon, acted like the bills would never come due.

So what's Chairman Obama prescription for getting out? Spending more, borrowing more, acting like the bills will never come due."

I was really surprised after seeing him on Maher. He actually knows what he's talking about. Ashton Kutcher was another one that surprised me on Bill Maher.

This is how Canada knows Ben Affleck (new window)

He was also caught cheating with a 'ripper in Vancouver which ended the JLo thing

Good for him, fun has no price

well, he did go to harvard.

It always pleases me to see the functionally retarded posting and making with the big boy pants. Well, looks like lunch time is over, time for you to get back to work sorting coat hangers by color.

I think a male actress would be somewhat surprising.

You give him entirely too much credit - no way this bobo could sort coat hangers by color. More likely he wonders which end of the stick is the one that should pick up the trash.

Funny thing about that Matt Damon Team America stuff, Trey Parker and Matt Stone actually really like Matt Damon, but the puppet they had made to look like him came back looking kind of retarded. Rather than try to have another made they just said screw it, just make the character retarded to match.

I generally like Ben Affleck. I think a lot of people developed an irrational hate for him when he was with J-Lo and never got over it.

I really liked Dadedevil. Not really on par with the Nolan Batman films, the Donner Superman films or the first two Spider-Man films. But compared to Hulk, Ghostrider, Spider-Man 3 and both Fantastic Four movies, Daredevil was a masterpiece.

Plus, Voyage of the Mimi was off the chain.

Springy23: well, he did go to harvard.

Damon went to Harvard (but didn't finish), not Affleck.

"Affleck attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, as well as the University of Vermont."

He's very smart, and always on point politically. He will be more involved in politics in the future.

Affleck is actually a pretty smart guy and from everything I've ever seen of him out of the movies like interviews, Dinner for Five ect he seems like a pretty cool guy I might like to have a beer with. That said, he can't farking act.

Eh... Affleck is fine when he works with a director that knows what they're doing. Otherwise he just flirts with the camera the entire movie.

I hated the movie, but he wasn't terrible in DareDevil (mainly because his eyes/face were covered)... and I actually like him a a few of the Kevin Smith flicks (namely Chasing Amy, Mall Rats and Dogma).

I think Ben Affleck has a redeeming quality in that he now seems to realize he's not the actor of the family, his brother is. Man seems to write and direct some good stuff though.

2009-01-22 6:10:39 PM
So Ben thinks Newsweek and GW Bush were able to do the Jedi Mind trick on congress? Well that explains everything.

// very intelligent commentary

2009-01-22 6:10:43 PM
Affleck is fine in certain roles: 90's Gen X dude (Chasing Amy, Glory Daze), Meathead jerk (Dazed and Confused, Mallrats), or yuppie arsehole (Changing Lanes, Boiler Room).

Things get problematic when he tries to be a hero (Daredevil, Sum of All Fears, Paycheck, Armageddon, so on and so forth).

He's actually kind of similar to Alec Baldwin -- seems to have the tools to be a leading man, but it doesn't seem to fit. Both work better with comedic material or playing the arsehole. Both are politically opinionated and wellspoken. Both played Jack Ryan (but worse than Harrison Ford).

2009-01-22 6:12:15 PM
After seeing Gone Baby Gone, I think he's got a brighter future in directing. Also he's been great in movies where he's not the lead like Shakespeare in Love, Boiler Room, Hollywoodland, he seems to me like a really good character actor trapped in a leading mans body. Sort of a Richard Jordan type.

I have never seen that before. If the stripper wasn't the final straw for JLo, I'm thinking that might have been. Funny!

2009-01-22 6:15:46 PM
Meh. That's about as deep an analysis as I'd expect from The View.

Now if he'd explained how he thought Paulson might very well have just staved off a complete and immediate banking collapse which could have turned our current woes into trouble which would make our current financial woes look like foreplay.... well, then I might be impressed.

I dont understand some of these posts. I watch Maher, and think Affleck sucks terribly. He is slightly more coherent than Tim Robbins, who is completely off his rocker, but not much better.

I wish Maher would stop it with the celebrity guests.

Maher is about the only show on TV I can find that has decent political dialog and analysis on a semi regular basis that is also entertaining.

Ben Affleck isn't a good actor, but he's no dumbass. And he's a good writer and a pretty good director too. As long as he leaves the acting to his brother, it's good.

2009-01-22 7:01:18 PM
People don't like Ben Affleck because they know he is better looking than them which makes them feel sad

More than just being funny, Chris Farley was also fat and that made him the ultimate American hero

Welfare Xmas: So Ben thinks Newsweek and GW Bush were able to do the Jedi Mind trick on congress? Well that explains everything.

A Jedi Mind trick is a good way to describe the absolute ignorance most North americans have of their monetary system.

The owners of the box also own Ben, Bush and Newsweek...even the CIA.

Great Movie, dark and sad. I think Ben's bro is the lead role.

Anywho. See this is you have not.
