(Some Guy)   Not wishing to be left out of the pointless biatching about Inauguration Day, NAACP whines that "Trail Maid" dresses remind them of "Gone With the Wind." Frankly, Obama just doesn't give a damn   (wsfa.com) divider line

Sounds like the NAACP is in full support of the War on Tara.

the NAACP, as well as many other organizations, knows that dumbass comments get them even more exposure for free.

I propose a bikini or french maid's outfit as an alternative. Being non-racist is awesome.

I think it's more offensive that they look like giant mounds of sherbert ice cream.

"I don't see what the dresses have to do with racism. I don't see it. It's just a regular dress to me. Just a dress they wore back in the day," said Carolyn Tius of Montgomery.

And what day would that be, gritmonger?

I heard at one of the inauguration parties, they were gonna play music by The Postal Service, but they have a song called "Clark Gable", who was in "Gone With the Wind", which reminds some people of slavery. So The Postal Service was beaten.

It sounds like just one dude making the statement, not the entirety of the NAACP.

Wait until they see the lawn jockeys that Bush put in the Rose garden as a practical joke!

"These are not just regular costumes. These are the costumes that remind someone of the plantation in Gone with the Wind," Edward Vaughn said in a phone interview.

So, your knowledge of the history of slavery in the United States is based on Gone with the wind? What's your job again?

Anything relevant that the NAACP does goes unnoticed because of stupid shiat like this. I'm not saying get over slavery, I'm saying stop looking for racism where there isn't any. There's plenty of it elsewhere.

2009-01-13 12:00:05 PM
I can't stand white people on parade! They remind me of slavery! They should be banned!

2009-01-13 12:00:56 PM
I suggest they wear a nice simple tasteful white robe. Possibly with a pointy topped matching hood.

Haha, true. They DO look like something out of Gone With The Wind, and I think that's kind of the point, it's period dress and Gone With The Wind was a period movie. So the question becomes, is there no ability to look fondly upon your past if there is a farked up situation involved in that past? I dunno, I'd rather not see people cling too hard to traditions in general, the human race is always moving forward. But I don't believe that everything about the past is tainted by the looming shame of slavery.

I was gonna make a "I'd lick it!" innuendo (I'm so f'n clever), but then I read that Trail Maids are all in high school. So unless they're seniors, I "wouldn't" lick it. *wink wink nudge nudge*

They're upset over dresses that make inauguration look like a film that brought the first ever major Academy Award to an African-American woman?

Dude, my ex-wife could claim membership in Daughters of the Confederacy and Daughters of the Revolution. She ate crap like this up, then gladly went back for seconds. On some road trip from Georgia to Florida for some family reunion thing, she and relatives kept on pointing out to this Western Yankee every single decrepit barn or FUBAR field, saying "Look! That's what Sherman did!" At the reunion I was the funny guy who took the salt and poured it on the ground, telling them Sherman's Ghost spoke to me and told me to finish the job.

If someone pointed a structure out to me like that I'd have to query them as to whether or not they believed certain states seceding from the Union just may have precipitated said destruction.

What a negative Nancy. Even if they do, they stand in stark contrast to the reality of the day: a black man will be inaugurated as President of the United States. But no no, we cannot focus on the positive and build off that, we must focus on the negative and tear things down.

Yeah, that whole cause and effect thing is part of what you and I would call a "rational debate", which those people (and yes, I use that term pejoratively) just cannot have when it comes to matters of the "glorious past".

Good Lord. Just saw a pic of all of them in front of a plantation. They look like someone spilled the marshmallows from a bowl of Lucky Charms all over the floor.

I don't know. It's leaders remember being attacked by dogs, water hoses, and tear gass for trying to vote for a government the was supposed to treat them as free and equal citizens? Maybe.

The NAACP is going over the top here, but it never fails to get some people all wound out of shape -- like the last 200 years of American history evaporated into thin air in 1964 -- or on January 20th

Obama is in for a rough going as President. Some people haven't figured out that he is the President of all Americas, not just this group or that. The biatching about the Inaugural, who speaks, who doesn't, what's in the parade, etc. I don't think I remember this before when a President is sworn in, but maybe it didn't make the news.

/ can't resist: I heard when the parade ends, the leader of the parade says, "Well I is the foreman, I say when it's quiten time. QUITEN TIME!"

In the year 2917, Americans will colonize a distant planet in a galaxy billions of light years away. And when they do, they will grant their African-American janitor the honor of being the first man to set foot on that planet, as compensation for "slavery."

The Fourteenth Amendment harkens back to the days of slavery as well. Shall we get rid of that, too?

This is absurd.
