For once they are doing something right.

I'll believe it when I read it in a legitimate paper. A Moonie Times exclusive doesn't count.

That still does not excuse one of the biggest tactical blunders in modern warfare.

Not a Hero.. No farking way.

2008-12-22 12:52:01 PM
Well if they wrote the letters PERSONALLY, I guess that makes it all OK then.

/Yes it is the right thing for them to do.
//it in NO WAY makes up for all the other evil things they have done.

2008-12-22 12:53:27 PM
That's not far from someone personally, privately writing to all the victims of their drunk-driving crashes.

Too little, too late.

comforter in chief.

The missus and I have one of those. It's made of goose down.

Would you rather have a family member still alive, or a letter ?

Assuming these thousands of letters even exist.

I mean it's nice that he took the time to wright - but it would have been better if he'd taken the time to consider whether sending them to die in the desert was such a great idea in the first place.

The man is a hero and you Dems don't realize it. No other president has done so much for our military, but you guys keep saying it's not enough.

Well, he certainly has done a lot related to the military, thought I'm not sure the proper phrase is "for the military".

NewportBarGuy: That still does not excuse one of the biggest tactical blunders in modern warfare.

I'd say second, probably, right after the debacle that was the Vietnam. You'd think we would've figured out some method of countering a guerrilla insurgency by now.

Riiight. Because if Gore had been president on 9/11, he would have just sent al-Qaida a copy of "An Inconvenient Truth" and they all would have instantly surrendered -- no military action necessary.

2008-12-22 1:05:32 PM
Well, that's about the least they can do. About the most they could have done would have been to avoid killing them in the first place. Or, failing that, they could have equipped them properly and had, you know, a competent strategy.

This is a nice gesture, though, I'm sure. I bet they feel better. Bush and Cheney, I mean.

Like not raising pay, reducing benefits, and denying them body armor that would save their lives? Screw you.

Yeah...your guys' failure is excused because of the fantasy you have in your head about how the guy who didn't win maybe might have possibly performed. You better adjust your helmet before you drown in your soup.

I have lots of form letters and a neat little program that will insert names and addresses in appropriate places within the letter. All that is required is a little data entry from a minimum wage worker and my signature and I can personally write every member of Fark.

Obama did the same thing nearly everyday during the campaign. I got letters in teh mail that said "Dear Bryan" and signed "Barack Obama." Can you believe he took the time to write me personally!!!???!

You mean the body armor that was in the appropriations bill from Bush that the Dems in the Senate killed?

That Bush showed absolutely no interest in pushing through anyway?

He should... he caused their deaths

Assuming this is true, why didn't the GOP Presidential campaign capitalise on it ?

Yeah, if my kid died over there,
I'd be thrilled to receive some letter for a failed oil tycoon from New England.

Bush might not be, but he doesn't run the electoral campaign.

Have you not been paying attention to the "Great Bush Legacy Revising Tour" currently underway (remember the shoe guy?). I wonder how this story "leaked" out? I bet Bush and Cheney were livid...livid! I can see them berating their respective staffs now:

"This was a private gesture to show our appreciation to the fallen. We never...EVER...wanted this released to the public!"

Sure.

2008-12-22 1:41:27 PM
i'd say it's the least they can do, but they've redefined what the least they can do is so many times that i suppose we should be impressed that they did something.

Not to be callous, but part of the president's job is sending troops out to die. The only question is where.

And how much did all those crayons cost the taxpayer?

No, no, no, you can't just put it in plaintext. For it to be loud and passionate, it needs formating, all-caps and spelling errors. Like so:

IT DEOSN'T COUNT!!!1!

See? The way I did it counts toward the "loud passionate claims" that Submitter was talking about, whereas yours does not.

/in any case, W and Cheney are douches for starting the unnecessary war in the Iraq to begin with

explosives and/or gunshots might be cosidered more direct causes of the deaths in question, but you go on and make your point.

Did you come up with your login id in a particularly self aware and reflective moment?

Dear Mr./Mrs. Soldier Parent,

I'm sorry I got your kid killed for no damn good reason. I made up a bunch of shiat and then had him go charging into the desert to kill some towelheads, which was awesome. But then he died, and that's sad. Guess we should have gotten better armor on those Humvees. Oh well. Hope you didn't value your son's/daughter's life too much because I'm not going to pay you much for your kid's life, because we blocked that too. Oh well, remember to vote Republican in 2012!

President George W. Bush
