2003-01-17 01:32:51 AM
I still have one of these somewhere... the McNugget one, I think.

Transformers! More than meets the eye!
Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil powers of the Decepticons!

Wow, I'm almost 28 and I just typed that from memory....what the brain remembers...
2003-01-17 01:34:55 AM
I had an easier time digesting these as a child than I did actual McDonalds food.
2003-01-17 01:39:33 AM

yeah, i have the french fry one :p

kids these days really don't appreciate how crappy their cartoons are.. if only they had grown up in the 80's like me.
2003-01-17 01:39:43 AM
I've got your happy meal right here.
2003-01-17 01:41:44 AM
omg i remember how i wanted all of these. i had the pancake one.

funny seeing mcdonalds stuff packaged in the styrofoam. just another sign of me getting old.
2003-01-17 01:43:31 AM
Derwood: Oh yeah! Well, I'm 19, and I can tell you that the Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. Sorry to nitpick, hehe.

I commend you on the excellent theme song reference.

Oh hey, another filter.

Don't think about a pink squirrel.
2003-01-17 01:48:10 AM
I remember those toys, they were the best thing ever to come out of a happy meal. Does anybody else remember when Mcdonalds had like seeds and stuff for a really small (like not even a foot diameter) greehouse to grow the seeds in?
2003-01-17 01:49:27 AM
I have like five each of the damned fries and hamburger robots in my basement. When I venture down there to get some oil or whatever, I always seem to trip on one of them.

Stupid robot things.
2003-01-17 01:49:35 AM
I had some Beanie and Cecil toys when I was little.
2003-01-17 01:49:58 AM
I have almost all of these (along with a large box full of old McDonalds toys). They kicked major ass back in the day...
2003-01-17 01:49:59 AM
I refuse to watch a realplayer file. That is all.

Also, i still have the french fry one, the hamburger one, and the styrofoam hamburger tray thingy one. those were cool, but i didn't have enough time in my Ninja Turtles/ Ghostbusters mixed up world. Think about it: Ghostbusters house, with the Ecto-1, plus all the ghostbusters and various ghosts... and the Ninja Turtles. Together. Cooperating in defeating General Rock from Dimension X, and army Bebop. It was the best combination ever.

Also, sometimes i would get my Captain Planet action figure i stole from my pediatricians office and he would join in the fun... until my brother painted him all green with the paint from his model Dodge Viper and ruined it all for me. I paid him back a while later with a whip on the back with a Jake the Snake. Stupid biatch.

TiggaBob: I was talking to a friend the other day... about the styrofoam containers. The BigMac used to be in that puke tan/brown color container and I remember the Fillet O' Fish was in the blue container. Scary thoughts. *shudder* Gawd I feel ancient.
2003-01-17 01:54:17 AM
Hey, thanks for the link! This will be Plaintiff's exhibit A when I sue their asses for brainwashing my soft skull full-o-mush and turning me into the tallow-recycling fatass I am today.
2003-01-17 01:54:55 AM
what was the sandwich that you put the 2 halfs together, one side was hot and one side was cold, anyone remember that? Oh wait a McDLT, nah but something like that. those were pretty major styrofoam containers.
2003-01-17 01:56:36 AM
those were the coolest Happy Meal toys EVER. I had the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, the shake, McNuggets, and the red fries. though some of the ones in the picture were new to me... jeebus, was one of those a McDLT? now there's a blast from the past...
2003-01-17 01:58:10 AM
Speaking of the styrofoam containers, remember when McDs jumped on the eco-bandwagon and did away with all the styrofoam stuff literally overnight and started serving burgers in paper? What happened to all that stryofoam?

I arrived in Japan in 1994. Of course I needed to eat but I couldn't speak the language, so my best bet was McDs....and when my burger was served, it was in a styrofoam containers. They shipped all the styrofoam overseas!!
2003-01-17 01:58:14 AM
I think it was a McDLT.
2003-01-17 02:01:09 AM
I still have the milkshake.

How farking cool am I?
2003-01-17 02:02:01 AM
I remember when one of the newer Batman movies came out and they made the Superhero Burger...it was on a hogie bun I believe...3 patties, more than one kind of cheese... Best. McDonalds burger. EVER.

while we're on 80's toy nostalgia, anyone remember the name of that line of toys where the advanced alien races came to primitive Earth and outfitted dinosaurs with armor and rockets and lasers and stuff to fight their battles? dinosaurs and battle armor, what a winning combination... I'm trying to remember what those toys were called and it's driving me nuts.
2003-01-17 02:03:49 AM
What's wrong with Real Player?
2003-01-17 02:04:06 AM
i have some killa optimus speakers from radio shack
2003-01-17 02:09:18 AM
Heh, I still have the whole set of these buried in my basement somewhere... a friend of our familys' was a traveling saleman, and he ate at McDonalds 3 meals a day when he was on the road. He would get me a happy meal toy every time he stopped. I had every happy meal toy made from about 1985-1990... eventually I sold a lot of 'em to collectors... hung on to the transformers, though...
2003-01-17 02:13:01 AM

I actually had the honor of working at a McD's when they made the switch from styrofoam to paper. (At least for the Quarter Pounders & Big Macs, I think the McDLT was dead by this point).

You wouldn't believe back then (late 80's) the amount of people that actually COMPLAINED about the elimination of the styrofoam containers. Granted, this was in Mid-Michigan where the average local yokels weren't what you'd consider tree-huggers... but still. People would look at the burger, wrapped in paper that said "Quarter Pounder" is pretty hard to miss type, and would think they got served the wrong thing. They would complain about how messy the paper got from the catsup, complain about how the burgers would get smooched from the lack of load-bearing styrofoam, etc. It really floored me.

I really don't think McD's eliminated the styrofoam for environmental reasons. I'm sure it was more a space and cost issue. Storing those quarter pounder boxes really took up an inordinate amount of space in the storage room. The paper was about 1000 times more compact and I'm sure cheaper to produce.

There's my boring "I used to work at McD's" story... back to your boobies links...
2003-01-17 02:17:56 AM
I still have some second wave of those toys, I have a shake and quarter pounder, and they turned into dinosaurs...of course, i remember going to some old peoples house and seeing the changables on a painting...of course...i was really young but...i remember it
2003-01-17 02:19:08 AM
As we are on the McDs subject... any good nicknames for the restaurant?
Best I heard was "Dirty Ron's"
2003-01-17 02:24:10 AM
I had forgotten about these toys, now the memories are flooding back. Nunyerbiz, IIRC, the bigger burgers originally had cardboard rings for support inside the paper. Puffy666, I loved the Super Hero Sandwich, it even came in its own paper tray, that thing was huge!

2003-01-17 02:30:47 AM

Yep, the rings were only for Macs and McChicken's tho... so people still biatched about the Quarter Pounders getting squished...

Speaking of those cardboard rings reminds me of the greatest "McD's employees are pricks" thing we did. If you were stupid enough to come to my McD's and order any burger or sandwich with extra anything, you definately got what you asked for. If you were stupid enough to order a McChicken with extra mayo, you were in a world of hurt.

I would place the bun and patty down, put the ring over top and proceed to fill the entire ring with mayo, about 2 solid inches or so, then sprinkle a bit of lettuce on top to hide the pool of mayo. Surprisingly nobody ever came back and complained about it despite the fact that mayo was going to come pouring out of the sandwhich as soon as any pressure was placed on it.
2003-01-17 02:30:49 AM
SuperHero Sandwich...maybe that was it.
BTW: It's 999 to you. ;)
2003-01-17 02:31:33 AM
2003-01-17 02:33:46 AM
So McDonalds employees intentionally mess with orders?! Never would've guessed... ;)
2003-01-17 02:33:51 AM
Lollygaggers- heres one
Raunchy Rons!
2003-01-17 02:50:03 AM
Don't they still have to cardboard rings for Big Macs?

Jeebus H. Crispies, you're bitter. Just go download the Tara plugin for Winamp, then you will be able to watch RealVideo without having to deal with Real's bloatware.
