Corrected headline:

Politicians are blatantly phony when they try to pass themselves off as regular people

No need to thank me, just doing my job.
2003-01-13 01:38:51 PM
FWIW, Zenmaster, the Republicans try to pass themselves off as rich people who care about regular people.
2003-01-13 02:40:04 PM
Good Gravy- I'm starting to think that Freepers have taken over link approval on Fark. I'm with Zenmaster on this one.

Too many of you are starting to mark me understand how Ann Coulter gets an audience....
2003-01-13 02:44:15 PM
regular people eat lots of dietary fibre in their diet.
2003-01-13 03:08:37 PM
Thank you Zenmaster
... this headline....such blatant trolling.... a little less transparent attempt next time. Please drive thru.
2003-01-13 03:26:27 PM
Ah, so George Bush Sr. and Republican Lamar Alexander were Democrats. Reading past the first sentence might be a good idea.
2003-01-13 04:05:46 PM
Oh, shut up.
2003-01-13 04:07:03 PM
Self-loathing bastards.
2003-01-13 04:07:55 PM
Just like George W. Bush trying to pass as a down-home, folksy, regular guy after living a life of wealth and privlege.
2003-01-13 04:08:41 PM
This is why the Republicans can win when their policies are so
antagonistic to the middle class majority - at least they are true
to their base - the richest 3% of the country.
2003-01-13 04:08:42 PM
I don't understand? I'll ask my personal assistant or butler about this. Polo anyone.
2003-01-13 04:08:46 PM
Ah, so George Bush Sr. and Republican Lamar Alexander were Democrats. Reading past the first sentence might be a good idea.

2003-01-13 04:09:25 PM
If I have to hear Johnny "I case ambulances for a living" Edwards talk about the average man one more time I'm going to just look at boobies and no longer vote.
2003-01-13 04:09:46 PM
If I met a politician who called me a "regular folk", I swear I'd give him a cock punch.
2003-01-13 04:10:04 PM
"Regular guy" John Edwards, for one, is filthy rich. He got that way chasing ambulances. He has no experience managing anything, not even the night shift at McDonalds.
Still, he's apparently attractive, so the democrats think shallow women and gay men will vote for him.

Farkettes, please tell me he isn't attractive.

2003-01-13 04:11:12 PM
If you haven't heard David Cross go wayyyy the f*ck off about G-Dub "trying to pass as a down-home, folksy, regular guy" I recommend his new cd.
2003-01-13 04:11:13 PM
Huh? You mean W. Bush isnt just a regular joe like me?
2003-01-13 04:12:19 PM
well, someone has to look out of the great hordes of the unwashed little people.
2003-01-13 04:12:22 PM
Not an obvious headline for flame or anything. Political flame wars are so yesterday. and the day before that and the day before that....

Lest we all forget, here's a little Dukakis.

Yeah...we don't need that rich, clairvoyant idiot, John Edwards in office. Of course we're regular folk...we only see LIVING people. What? Oh. That's John EDWARD. Damn...nevermind.

King George II, oh, I mean G.W. is a good ol' boy, just like me! He like huntin, and fishin, layin out in a hammock on a lazy Sunday afternoon, setting up Carnivore so that everything I do online is tracked by the FBI...

Born into an average family and working for your millions = bad Democrat

Having your silver spoon surgically removed at birth and family money support you through life = good Republican?

2003-01-13 04:15:24 PM
I resent that this asshole attempts to pass himself off as common people..

Plus, if that farktard millionaire ever called me a common folk, you'd have to drag me off of him and try to sew his jaw back onto his face.

Anyone who actively persues a position to where they dictate what others can and can not do with their lives does not deserve the position they seek.
2003-01-13 04:16:22 PM
This is a good article and explains a lot.
The Dems get elected promising relief for the average guy,
but in the end it is big business through their lobbyists that
write our laws.
My heart wouldn't be in it either if I was suppose to be
blocking laws that would help me personally.
2003-01-13 04:17:41 PM
I thought that Republicans liked "regular" people who worked their way into wealth.
2003-01-13 04:18:03 PM
Something tells me Edward Kennedy got his inheritence money before he wanted the Inheritence Tax imposed...
2003-01-13 04:18:22 PM
...but isn't that what republicans do too? You have to realize that the Dems are the left nut and the Reps are the right nut of the same big corporate dick.
2003-01-13 04:18:36 PM
I can't believe it, it has almost been a day without a b00bies post.
2003-01-13 04:18:49 PM
That is fair and well written article, too bad the headline got tollerized when it was ported to fark. Stupid filters. Lets get these out of the way fast today folks.\

- Republicans are rich too
- Shrub is uber-rich but tries to look like he isnt
- Clinton, Gore, Liberman etc. are all rich too
- Bush is an idiot
- Clinton is a slut
- Right wingers have no respect for the poor, non-white, non-christian, or non-right winger
- Left wingers complain about how right wingers have no respect for the poor, non-white, non-christian, or non-right winger but dont do much about it
- There are so many others, but I'm sure we'll get to them

Put somone who gives a crap in office already.
2003-01-13 04:19:22 PM
Ya know, Mr. Headline Writer, it takes scientists about ten minutes to train a cocaine addicted lab rat to look at two levers and punch the "correct" one.

Party line voters = tools

Kodos in 2004.
2003-01-13 04:19:32 PM
I was unaware that politicians could be anything but phony!!

(except Ingrid Betancourt of course..)
2003-01-13 04:19:43 PM
I find all of this very hard to believe.
2003-01-13 04:20:20 PM
FarkinConstrictor:Anyone who actively persues a position to where they dictate what others can and can not do with their lives does not deserve the position they seek.

Is that a correllary to the HHGTTG position that anyone who wants to be president absolutely should not be allowed to be president? (Or some other similiar wording)
2003-01-13 04:20:36 PM
A regluar guy will never make it into office under the current political system. If you ain't got the money, you ain't gettin' the votes. Plain and simple.
2003-01-13 04:20:39 PM
Although this article does talk about some repubs too (it would be too blatantly transparent if it didn't) it is interesting that when people were first getting to know Bush the media didn't talk about this despite that Bush was always privileged and his dad pulling him up out of all his failures kept him from ever being homeless like a regular person who failed that much.

But now that John Edwards, an originally working class self-made man, is a rich candidate this stuff about the rich trying to claim they are the regular guy is all over the media. It shows one the CONSERVATIVE CORPORATE MEDIA's real bias.
2003-01-13 04:20:39 PM
The sad thing is, though, if you talk to people, a lot will be like, "Oh Al Gore is a Robot, I could never vote for him, at least Bush is a nice guy" or similar quotes. A lot of people are going to vote for the candidate they like best as a person, and that perception is usually formed by those 'Candidate X is the all american person because Y and Z...' commercials we see during the autumn of even numbered years.
Are these people a majority? Not really, but a big minority, that's for sure.
2003-01-13 04:20:51 PM
Yeah, I'd run for president when I am old enough in 5 years.

It all sucks.
2003-01-13 04:20:53 PM
"You're not just whistling dixie about those Democrats," so saith the ghosts of Chandra Levy and Mary Jo Kopechne.
2003-01-13 04:21:09 PM
This thread doesn't deserve to become a flamewar. Anyone with the intelligence of a monkey or better should be able to figure out that both parties send millionaires to Congress under the "common man" ruse. Remember Bush's: I know hard hard it is to put food on your family?
2003-01-13 04:21:14 PM
The filthy rich don't pay inheritance tax. They pass the money through trusts, which require lawyers. And lawyers are one of the biggest contributors to Democrats. If you could make a billion dollars sueing the tobacco companies, and all it required was a couple hundred thousand in campaign contributions, you'd do it, wouldn't you?
2003-01-13 04:22:06 PM
And this is any different from what Bush does?
2003-01-13 04:22:21 PM
I'd say Bush Jr. actually pulls this off better than anyone the Democrats have jockeying for the 2004 race.
2003-01-13 04:22:22 PM
I think of it as the reverse 'Joe Millionaire'. Filthy rich pretending to be a hard working joe. Let's see Fox jump on that one.
2003-01-13 04:22:31 PM
9 of 12 Richest Senators are Democrats (yep, their for the 'little guy')

MonkeyButler- I recommend brushing up on your "there/their/they're" usage.
2003-01-13 04:22:32 PM
When John Kerry gets elected, there'll be Heinz Ketchup on every table.
