Hmm. I wonder if Hollywood has a problem with this...

Block has registered trademarks for "WKRP" and "WKRP Cincinnati,"

He's either full of sh*t or CBS really dropped the ball on that one.

/goes off to register a trademark for "The Simpsons" and "South Park."

How about a big Fark user image for it being a television station and not a radio station?

You know, even just hearing the opening lines of the theme song "Baby, if you ever wondered...." brings me back to a place that was so different and wonderful. Makes me very nostalgic and somewhat sad, too. Ah, my lost innocence......

The opening bars to Taxi and Barney Miller do the same. I can almost feel what it was like to be a kid again.

As a general rule, for works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years.

I think all poteential call letters are owned by the FCC. The FCC can do as they see fit with call letters. Although CBS might sue the FCC over giving out the call letters "WKRP" and win, in the end if CBS pisses off the FCC then CBS will lose. I dont think that CBS will squawk over the FCC giving out WKRP.

Last night I was hanging out with the family, and mentioned to my dad that the clip of the turkey drop was on YouTube. He hadn't seen it since it aired back in the 70's, and said it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen, so I showed it to him.

The old man doesn't laugh that much, but when he does he loses it.

This just in, from IMDB:

Hugh Wilson would do the warm-up during show tapings. Wilson said during a warm-up that the reason he chose call letters "WKRP" is that they were the only ones not being used by an actual station. He said he wanted to use "WSOS" or "WHLP" but they were taken. During the show's run, a small AM radio station in Georgia applied to the FCC for the call letters WKRP. The show's producers considered legal action, but were informed by the FCC that their trademark rights did not prevent a legitimate radio station from using the call letters, which were granted to the applicant.

It's on the internet so it has to be true...
