This seems like a stupid idea considering the success of the current movies.

Superman's death in 1992 at the hands of Doomsday became the biggest selling Superman comic in history.

That's why.

He was later resurrected.

And that's double why.

Holy Suckage Batman!!

Really? You're going to do one of the most tired arse story lines in history to one of my fav characters?!? I remember "Knightsfall" the whole "Rocky" storyline for Bruce was cool but the replacement Batman was very bad. And the whole Comm Gordan wondering if he had be dealing with different Batmans the whole time also was stupid.
So please don't do this. I know by now the comics are already printed but just say no.

The article even mentions the back-breaking and retirement from a few years ago. Comic books are like soap operas, you can kill someone off but they can always be resurrected.

2008-11-25 01:15:33 PM
Wait, didn't Bane break Batman's back thus ending his "career" in the original line of comics anyway? Which then lead to a new batman that seemed to really like blood by the fact that he had razor sharp metal blade/spike things on his arm that he slashed the hell out of people with?

I'll buy 5 copies and sell off 3 while the embers are hot.

1 for reading.
1 for CGC.

Morrison is a great writer, but I can't wait to hear what kind of edgy "focus-group-approved" character they'll bring in to be Batman.

"Hey, since when is Batman an angry Latina lesbian?"

Good. Batman keeps drawing obscene cartoons and sending them to me.

Something about he met a chick who had healing powers or something so his back got fixed. It was all stupid.

I was reading something about this story a while back and it was supposed to be something like he doesn't really die. His mind in regards to the Batman persona is destroyed or some such stupidity.

2008-11-25 02:41:03 PM
I am glad that I do not have a strong opinion on this.

2008-11-25 02:42:12 PM
I will be buying a copy. I just started reading comics on a regular basis about a year ago and this seems like this is one to have.

2008-11-25 02:42:18 PM
If Batman and Superman both die doesn't that basically run us out of readable, popular (non-Vertigo) DC titles?

And if Adam West couldn't kill Batman no one can.

Something about he met a chick...

From the start of this thread, looks like there are more than a few TFers who have never experienced that little event in their lives.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: "Hey, since when is Batman an angry Latina lesbian?"

You got a problem with the new Question? (That said: I doubt there was any focus group involved with that, more likely Rucka was given the option to write a new version of the Question and decided to revisit a pre-existing character of his; similar to what happened with the Spectre -- though I do wish they'd lose the goatee.)

Other than that, my sole complaint here is that this Batman isn't the Goddamn Batman. The Goddamn Batman is Miller's abomination and that is, unfortunately, still ongoing.

Batman Beyond, the animated futuristic sequel thing to the Batman Animated Series, had a fantastic story about why Bruce Wayne stopped being Batman.

The actual Batman Beyond events were pretty stupid, but the whole bit about Joker taking Robin and turning him into Joker Junior was freaking hardcore.

Headline: "Batman to be killed off after 70 years"

Halfway down the article: "What I am doing is a fate worse than death," [says Grant Morrison].

How did they write Wayne back into the Batman role after the Bane incident? I read that series when it first came out but nothing afterward.

After 9/11 they turned Cap into a really deep character with a lot of internal conflicts he kept in line while still living his life. It was a wonderful allegory for, "Live, even when it sucks." which is a message a lot of kids need. Hell, a lot of adults need it to, but this is not about that.

They killed Cap, after making him cool.

They made spider man into some totemic power thing that makes deals with the devil. Oh, and they had him break up with MJ.

They turned Hulk from rage personified into... well... a titan of old.

They are simply changing it all too much too fast, throwing out the old idea of these being allegorical mythologies for pop consumption in favor of just pop entertainment.

I don't like what comics are becoming, and I have stopped reading them. Once they killed ol' wing head, I lost interest, this just makes me wanna burn down the local comic store in protest. Well no, not really, but you know what I mean.

Batman: Confidential is a good one kind of outside of both continuities. It's a darker take on the rise of Batman and the Joker.
