Medicine costing "an arm and a leg" joke fits in here somewhere.

2008-11-24 4:03:22 PM
Well... the surgeon didn't "accidentally" do this.

They did it so she wouldn't die. There's an argument to be made that they accidentally infected her--but that's another issue altogether.

All that and she can't even sue. She doesn't have a leg to stand on.

She'll lose that lawsuit handily.

"I want to thank God for giving me a chance to live through this," said the woman whom God allowed to get kidney stones in the first place. "My goal is to walk out of this hospital with my hands and legs before Christmas so I can spend it with my family and friends. The first thing I will do is hug my kids as tight as possible."

I think she'll win and soon be spending money hand over fist...

2008-11-24 4:32:17 PM
I think she needs to stand up and give herself a big round of applause for this.

2008-11-24 4:32:38 PM
Give me a moment while I stand up and clap for her bravery...

Not necessarily, I don't think he'll be able to satisfy the standing requirement.

Her lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein, told the Daily News that Mullings is "a role model for those who suffer a tragedy."

I guess that god fellow she is thanking must be really nice for letting her live but he really needed her hands and feet...

Another example of why socialized medicine sucks and will never work

..wait, what?

I can't imagine there's any way any amount of money can make up for it. Holy shiat. I can not imagine

Why does god hate amputees? I bet they pray just as hard as everyone else but he never grows back an arm or a leg?

"My goal is to walk out of this hospital with my hands and legs before Christmas..."

wut

I assume they're talking about prosthetics but that was just worded... oddly. Like she was going to take back her amputated limbs or something (which would be badass, in a way).

haha... I came here to say this. If I woke up with my hands and feet missing, I'm pretty sure "thanks" is not the word I would be using.

If I were a quadruple amputee I wouldn't want to wake up. You know there's going to be an itch you can't scratch somewhere different every day for the rest of your life.

2008-11-24 4:39:55 PM
My ex's best friend's brother got to wake up in the hospital with a surprise amputation. He was pretty depressed for a long time, but he's adapting to it.

Protip: If you're sitting on the back of a pickup truck and it starts rolling forward, for God's sake do anything you can to not fall on your head. This guy went into several comas, lost his leg to bedsores, and nearly died.

She won't admit she's defeated.

2008-11-24 4:41:07 PM
When asked how their doctors could have made such an elementary mistake, the Chief of Medicine responded, "We're completely stumped."

2008-11-24 4:41:15 PM
If I am reading this right she was treated for kidney stones. She was released. She developed the infection while released and not in the hospital. She was then readmitted to the hospital and they saved her life.

Sounds like she waited a bit to long before contacting the doctors about the infection.

Well, they didn't accidentally amputate anything. However, this is the second story I've read where someone goes to a hospital, contracts something, and ends up losing all four extremities.

/$100 million doesn't sound like enough if you axe me.

2008-11-24 4:41:55 PM
During crossexamination, when attorneys for the plaintiff asked her how this could have happened, she shrugged and said, "I'm stumped."

how does someone who might end getting surgery at some point in their life avoid this scenario? how do i make sure i don't get infected, or if i do, how do i make sure i get that treated before the 'we need to amputate your hands and feet stage'?

Yeah, I've seen that. It didn't make any sense. They were asking God to "cure" amputees. But I got a news flash for them, amputeedom is not a deadly disease to be cured from. Duh
