Former South Dakota Senator Tom Daschle, who is expected to be nominated as Secretary of Health and Human Services, responded to a reporter who asked about the Lewinsky rumors by pretending to receive a cell phone call. When the reporter took the phone from him and closed it while making a "we both know what you're doing" facial expression, Daschle said that appointing Lewinsky would be "like rubbing salt in the wounds of Senator Clinton at a time when we're supposed to be in a healing process." He added that Miss Lewinsky's presence in the White House would be "a huge distraction."

The Onion isn't the only publication that uses satire you know. Their satire is generally a bit better than this, though.

Well this certainly sucks.

Hiring Ms. Lewinsky would be a massive mistake. The problems that the Obama administration will have to face are just too big for her to wrap her head around. She may end up doing a great job, but I fear that it will all just blow up in her face.

I think Monica needs to take a long, hard look at the situation before her, and realize that to really wrap her head around this thing could take an extreme amount of time and effort. She was a stain on our former president's legacy and this time, we need more than just another syncophant, bobbing her head in affirmation at every request the boss makes.

If she does get this job, I just pray she doesn't blow it.

True or not, I've always felt a bit bad for Monica Lewinsky. She seemed intelligent and likable, and she was pretty young when she was an intern. So, when the most powerful man in the world (who happens to be renowned for his charisma) started hitting on her, of course she felt flattered, and it lead her to using poor judgment. Most people have a chance to recover from mistakes of their youth, but she doesn't. Her name is forever linked with scandal, and she can never have the career she wanted.

/I'm not too sorry for her -- after all, she has opportunities most of us will never have. But still, I don't envy her.
