Figures-- the one day I decide not to go the library, and I miss an opportunity to be more appalled than usual about something.

This really comes as no surprise. Though NCSU has a lot going for it, it really does have the unfortunate habit of going forth into the twilight wastes that are parts of North Carolina and dragging back the hideous denizens of those blighted realms.

It's always the same-- you're going along, minding your own buisness, and the general air of academia is suddenly dispersed by a feeling of dread. Looking up from your notebook full of scrawled notes on sixteenth century playwrights, you lock eyes with one of them. They scowl, as they sense that you are not descended from the landed English gentry of the early colonial period.

They always drive Fords, for some reason. F150's for the men, Rangers for the ladies-- always a little beat up. Always with the stickers-- BASS, that strange deer head, the red NCSU sticker that affirms to the world that someone thought them worthy of college. They are not rednecks-- rednecks are people. They are the forgotten sons of the wood.

They love wearing realtree camo jackets. They never carry any books. They smell of wild places, BO, and wet dog. When you hear them talk (and they do-- they are not animals, but creatures blessed with a kind of thought, rudimentary though it may be) it's always about football.

Someday I will understand their kind. And on that day, I will know too much.

They make you take notes on yourself in that class?

It is our job to stop it. It is our job to reject it. At every turn, at every utterance, and every typed word, we must fight it.

I think we will win. :)

you know, maybe this kind of exposure of the racism in the country is a good thing.
Instead of being left festering in the dark, this kind of filth will hopefully be brought to the light and dealt with.

Taggers should be shot on sight.

I never thought I'd be so happy to live next door to the People's Republic of Chapel Hill. At least stupid garbage like this is less likely to happen there.

Why can't some people just accept this rather important first in our nations history? After nearly 50 years of oppression, we finally have our nations first Hawaiian President.

2008-11-05 9:01:14 PM
Suck it, KKK.

Every kid under maybe 5 years old is going to grow up seeing the President of the most powerful nation in the world is a black man. Every kid around the world.

I'm not saying racism is done. But race will not be a barrier for kids born in the 2000s, if we work hard enough, not in anything: schools, education, employment, all opportunities. Every kid who is in a disadvantaged situation can look at Barack Hussein Obama, and the lesson is if you study hard, you can work your way to the American dream.

Barack Obama had to work twice, maybe three times as hard as anyone else to get where he is. People who follow in his footsteps won't have to prove themselves again and again and again in the same way, and will have him as an example if they are discouraged by discrimination.

So, again, suck it, racist bigots. You guys lost so long ago. Slink away and try to understand why.

It's just kind of weird because the whole Raleigh-Durham metro area went decisively for Obama. Everyone's on this big high about how this is a liberal oasis in the middle of Jesusland, and then shiat like this goes and happens. Sucks.

Just a note. Not everyone who did not vote for Obama is a racist douche. I voted based on politics, not race.

A message to the douche's who did this: FARK YOU!

I'm not ashamed of being white, but I dislike being associated with inbred's like this.

We supported McCain; it's over, we lost. So now we support the President-elect. Unfortunately my kid's school had a mock election and it wasn't secret ballot. My kid was one of a handful in the whole school who voted for McCain. And now she's getting bullied over it. She was slapped repeatedly by a group of girls today.

If we can be gracious losers I think it's not too much to ask for the other side to be gracious winners. This WILL be stopped tomorrow, if we have to press criminal charges.

Suggestions--I'm open to them. I don't think this is what our country is about. I don't agree with Obama's proposed solutions for our problems but it is important that something be done about them, and sometimes doing anything is better than continuing to drift along doing nothing but get further entrenched in a rut.

Errk, johnny_vegas

Aw, fooey. Don't tell me you've never been bored and inflammatory.

And I have gotten some withering looks from some scary mofos at NCSU-- I think they sense that I went to an HBCU.

Ultimately, I think it should have been left on the tunnel-- like everything else, it would eventually be painted over, and in the mean time it would serve to remind everyone of how horrible a few people here and there still can be. It is for free expression, after all.

Concern troll gets concerned troll response. Libruls are passive aggressive, and your kid is a wuss. You don't need the law, you need to teach your kid to curb stomp these heathens.

I work in Raleigh and have attended NCSU as well as delivered pizzas on Hillsborough St.

Zerk Shrader hit the nail on the head. Goons driving around with their lifted pickups and Jeeps with the mud custom applied for that vintage look. Campus is crawling with douchebags.

Except you weren't gracious winners.

I realized it when I voted, but I'm still scarred with rage from only six all-too-short years ago when Republicans cackled with glee at their "mandate", calling liberals traitors and terrorists and openly advocating their extermination in death camps.

Yes, I remember when Republicans took off their masks and publicly wished to exterminate 100 million of their fellow Americans.

The liberals will be "gracious" in that at least they won't try to pass laws to rip your families apart or forbid you from marrying. And they won't openly wish for your death. So they're already a good three steps ahead of the Republicans in terms of graciousness.

Don't attack me like I'm a social conservative--I'm not, on most issues. For example, I think anyone who wants to live together as a household should be treated equally under the law, regardless of sexual preference.

You don't know my personal platform. And my own party has been a huge disappointment for me for many, many years, but I still don't agree with socialism.

As for teaching my kid to curb-stomp people, we told her today that we're disappointed in her taking this treatment, and that doormats make bullies. However, we don't want to see this blow up into some big riot. A lot of these kids are already affiliated with gangs. And the reality is that our daughter is smaller than any of them. There would be no fair fight.

I think every white person at NCSU should apologize to the black students that have daily had to struggle against institutional racism and effects from slavery.

My minority scholarship, money for the diversity inclusion group, and minority mentor program at NCSU don't even skim the surface to repay me for the unfairness I have had to deal with b/c of slavery and racism from white trash redneck hicks.

I'm glad Obama has been elected b/c hopefully he will start to right the wrongs and give us reparations.
