They don't want that war-monger Obama in the Oval office.

Why hasn't this received greater publicity?

I think it's weird that a reporter just has a secret password protected Al Quaeda site, period. Considering things that they can shut down on the Internet, why are these sites not pulled down? Or are they actually useful for the government?

I tried to get access to a password-protected Al Queda site, but it was $5 a month.

Holy shiat, that looks like some cross between Fark and FreeRepublic, with unfunny funny headlines, and oh-so-stupid commentary on how Bush is to criberal.

/ever heard of hacking?

Why? Dont you think reporters should do their jobs and gather as much information as possible?

It'd be pretty hard for the US to shut down a website/network in the middle east without violating quite a few laws and treaties.
Do you really want to let the government start censoring the internet so you feel safer? Ask China how thats working out for them.

rcain: Hello my little friends.

On November 4th, it is your sacred duty to vote for McCain, then whip out your prayer rug, face Mecca and perform a salat right there in the voting area. This is to insure only your vote is recorded as the polling place will be closed due to your terroristic looking act of practicing your religious faith.

No shiat....I've actually seen a lady pull her kids closer when a guy in a turban walked by them at the grocery store. Thanks GOP!

John McCain is a doofus.

Al Qaida is an asshole.

What else ya wanna know?

Questioning Nicholas Kristof's veracity is not a particularly good idea.

Oh, and is it really that hard to believe the passwords in such an informal organization would leak out?

I used to say that Bin Laden was the most powerful man on earth; one sentence from him can send markets into a panic, and re-elect the worst president in America's history. Now, with Bush's numbers in the toilet, some D-list Junior Assistant Terrorist can outrank him. What a world.

It makes sense. Iraq has been Al-Qaeda's greatest recruiting tool. They want an American President that will be most likely to continue Iraq/ create Iraq-type situations elsewhere as much as possible.

Even if Obama and McCain wouldn't make a single different foreign policy decision, Obama will be more popular internationally, and that would hurt recruiting.

Because the Govt has better things to do than start script kiddie wars with every guy who has a server in his parents' home with a PhPBB forum on it.

Or are they actually useful for the government?

If they are really juicy, probably.

I have always liked Kristof. In my opinion, he is one of the few op-ed guys still worth reading

It's inconceivable that someone would find the password to a password protected site. That would be like.. like the Governor of a State having their email compromised. Can't happen folks.

2008-10-28 10:09:23 PM
Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times was THE FIRST reporter to break the news about the Niger uranium yellowcake forgeries, a week before President Bush publicly lied about it in his 2003 State of the Union address.

And this was before all the politically divisive Valerie Plame spectacles that cropped up months later. Kristof is the reason why I still respect the NYT.

So I feel safer? Really?

I was just thinking they go after music "piracy" sites left and right and that really pales in comparison to sites for international terrorist networks. And they work with other countries/bend laws to take down the music sites. etc... just seemed surprising to me that al quaeda sites are up and running.

*shrug*

The government doesn't shut them down because the intelligence community (CIA, FBI, military branches, etc) use them as resources for intelligence gathering on al Qaida.

Big deal. They wanted Bush re-elected in 2004 too. All this idiot republicans who keep talking of pre-emptive strikes on Muslim countries drives their recruitment up through the roof.

al-Qaeda isn't trying to protect Muslims, they're trying to invoke an all the fark out cosmic Holy War between Islam and Christianity.

Bush and McCain with their hawkish attitude help push the MIddle East into their hands. Its actually good for their business.

The truth is that NYT reporters, like all of us ultra-liberals, have the passwords to these sites because we are members. Where else do you think we get our instructions for destroying Real America?
