Subby here. I don't usually go out of the way to out myself, but I just wanted to say that I think I've submitted at least 500 headlines with horrible puns followed by "Or maybe I just misunderstood this." First one ever to get greenlit.

Considering the TFA, that's actually pretty funny!

Why does China want to keep Tibet so badly anyway? The entire economy of Tibet is based on subsistence farming.

In fact, the only truly marketable thing about Tibet is tourism based on it's unique Buddhist history, and that's the one thing China wants to destroy.

Tibet has some significant mineral deposits (including uranium, if I recall), and occupies a strategic position controlling several crossings between Chinese and Indian territory. Given that China and India have fought several wars over border issues in the area, China really likes the idea of having that territory under its personal control, rather than in the hands of a government that will have significant ties to India after 50 years of operating in exile there. The Chinese have also been looking into using Tibet as a staging area for lobbing missiles into South and Central Asia as a way of projecting their military force beyond their borders.

That picture was kind of freaking me out, until I realized Arnie was just wearing a flesh-toned tie instead of exposing his smooth, naked chest to the Dalai Lama.

Unless the Dalai Lama is going to pay the Chinese government a brazillion dollars, China isn't going to do diddly squat for Tibetans.

The Chinese only care about money, and couldn't give a flying stuff about anything else.

/figures really, as the Chinese invented money

untaken_name: I took it to mean he just bought one of those sets of Corelle from Wal-Mart. They're attractive, easy to clean, and you can drop 'em while you're drying 'em and they won't break. I don't blame him for making the switch.

I've seen a Corelle ware cup break. But I must admit, someone was smashing it full force into the back of someone else's head at the time.

Irish tea parties can turn incredibly violent. Who knew?

Land is land, and there aint going to be anymore of it..until the great peoples revolution on Mars... but seriously they have mining and other natural resources, as well as offering a military buffer zone to India and China proper. But mostly, like most things with Chinese international relations it has to do with being "humiliated" by others interference in their domestic politics, also it would set a precedent to taiwan, xing xiang, inner mongolia etc to break away

If the Chinese want to get rid of the Tibetans, they could simply just poison all their food.

/Whoops, the Chinese are doing that to themselves anyway

I'll admit it, subby got a laugh out of me.

TFA:
"As far as I'm concerned, I have given up," he said in an unusually blunt statement.

...

A new round of talks between his envoys and Chinese officials is due to begin at the end of the month.

Umm... what?

2008-10-28 12:06:55 PM
Tibet has strategic mineral deposits of melamine, which China desperately needs to poison its livestock and children with.

Gung fu I don't get it.
Darai Rrama paper prates?

Why do you think Tibetans have Chinese accents?
