Pretty hot chick. But she sounds crazy... which is a bonus in the sack. Just don't marry it.

Guess whose fault all this is. Go ahead, guess

Don't tell me...don't tell me...this is bad news...for Obama?

2008-10-20 6:54:15 PM
You know, this kind of marriage breakdown is so rare around military bases.

2008-10-20 7:00:54 PM
I read the article and have no idea. Interesting read though (and she's hot)

2008-10-20 7:07:48 PM
So here's this chick's choices:

1. Lucrative job on a military base, chance at a new life in the US, social services to help in several different ways when she makes a series of really stupid decisions.

2. Living with her abusive brother in a family caste system under which she had no rights, no prospects and no future other than a good chance of being murdered by her own family.

Remind me again why she's worse off now?

I'm confused as to why they took the kids away from the Dad?

Oh and subby if you think people don't get get mentally farked up being in a warzone, especially one raging in your own country where your brother can kill you for showing your ankles, I invite you to go move to Iraq or enlist for a couple of tours.

None of it excuses beating a child/spouse/SO/pet.

Is it Rick Astley?

Hmmm, a headline dedicated to whining about who is getting "blamed" for something...

let me see, is there some group that does that a lot ? I'm trying to remember, it sounds familiar. The tone that makes you almost picture a trembling lower lip and twitching eye, the tears... someone does this 8 or 9 times a day.

Um, I'm going to just go way out on a limb and guess. Some "conservative" hero is the victim here ?

Joey Ramone?

*reads article*

Sweet, totally right again!

Gwendolyn: I'm confused as to why they took the kids away from the Dad?

Ditto. He clearly doesn't tolerate the abuse.

What a bizzare story. In particular interesting that she wasn't able to get any other work but as a stripper because of those asinine mandatory employer citizenship-verification laws.

Has Lifetime secured the movie rights yet?

I also read the whole article, which made not the least accusation of blame.

Honestly, subby, I honestly can't tell what point you are trying to suggest. Though Mordant's read of your headline seems a good guess.

On Thursday night, officials from the Department of Family Services took custody of both children from Campbell.

....And this guy calls himself a Marine? Go surrender to the nearest social worker.

The Springfield Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident.

"That's some fine police work there, Lou."

I am curious as to how the woman from Iraq sounds like she's from the O.C. (don't call it that), instead of Iraq.

If she suffered abuse when she was a girl, then it's VERY possible that when she's frustrated she abuses her kids.

Sad.

FTA: "Venus has just finally got it together," Vawter said in a telephone interview shortly afterward. "They're good parents; they just didn't have the resources and the tools."

Being a "good parent" means not having the kid until you have the resources and the tools, which means getting this child beater on Norplant and maybe aborting the occasional science experiment.

Bah, but which strip club in Ozark or Springfield was it? I guess I'll just have to go to all of them.

"I think they're a product of war," said Bonnie Vawter, a children's services worker who handled their case.

"We have two people who met each other during war. They fell in love. They're trying to make a life with each other," Vawter said. "They have a lot of obstacles, just because of their circumstances and the cultural differences and citizenship and things like that. And I don't think this is an isolated case."

back in the day, this was the ultimate of romantic. see: casablanca, gone with the wind, dr zhivago, every other classic movie.

Kymry: If she suffered abuse when she was a girl, then it's VERY possiblelikely that when she's frustrated she abuses her kids.

FTFY.

I mean, it's not like she was read a copy of "Hands Are Not For Hitting" at any point in her early childhood.

Two farked up adults who don't have a decent skill set to cope with life.

Why the hell did they take the kids away from the dad? He had a goddamn job and didn't beat up his kids (as far as we know).

2008-10-20 11:05:20 PM

cksewell: It's Joe the Soldier's fault

Can't be; Joe was in a cigar box under my bed the whole time.

I think you owe Joe an apology.

My guess is that subby didn't read the full article.

Interesting story, hot chick (nice rack!).

FTFA: ". . .poledancing was a question of survival."

WTF?

Then what was she surviving in Iraq? Boob-flashing?

Also, more and better pixes or GTFO.

CPS took their baby away, not the KKK.

In today's society, a man is automatically assumed to be the abuser, even though statistics show that 60% of child abuse is from the mother. In domestic violence between husband and wife, not only is the husband assumed to be the guilty party, many states have a law that REQUIRES the police to arrest the man, no matter what the evidence shows. So a guy bleeding from head trauma can look forward to jail if he calls the police to report his wife.

To the femi-nazis who brought this about. Go fark yourself.

The San Andreas?

2008-10-20 11:10:35 PM
Subby obviously looked at this, pulled a TLDR, made a big-ass assumption that with the source being NPR they just knew what the point would be (possibly because Rush Limbaugh or similar ilk told them so), and flew with it.

submitter FAIL.

It's just a sad story with no clear culprits, and the only one who is worse off is the child.

/I guess you could blame god, but isn't NPR all godless hippie commies?

Absolutely.

And so refreshing.

I feel conflicted.

On one hand her exotic looks would have probably pussy whipped any soldier in Iraq that hasn't seen a fine woman in lord knows how long. So I guess he was temporarily subdued into love.

However on the other hand I honestly think the soldier should have treated her as a fling till the war was over or when his deployment was up. I mean I haven't heard any Vietnam vets bringing home any of the Mai Lings that they screwed around with while they were over there.

2008-10-20 11:11:36 PM
Was it Jesus? He gets blamed for a lot of stuff. I hear people say "Oh, Jesus!" all the time.

2008-10-20 11:12:08 PM
Stripper job...new boyfriend(s)...beats kid...kicked out/leaves. I can't tell you how many times I saw this played out around military posts. Young GI and new wife (usually foreign) run up lots of bills, bill collectors start calling, wife gets job downtown bar tending/stripping/etc. Fights start at home, kids go to Family Services custody. Nobody wins.

2008-10-20 11:12:26 PM
Wow he had two tours and doesn't seem to have much of anything. What on Earth did he blow his money on? Someone needed to take a budgeting class. Maybe next time he'll learn to take advantage of social services. Moron.

2008-10-20 11:12:50 PM
TFA says: ...Campbell, who was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, most likely compounded by his two tours of duty in Iraq.

Compounded?? Is the author trying to say this guy already had the PTSD, and then it got a little worse while serving the two tours in hell?
