(Chicago Sun-Times)   Obama opens three fundraising offices each in 18 battleground states -- so donors can give him the maximum amount allowed by law three times each. That's change we can line our pockets with   (blogs.suntimes.com) divider line

It's going to be great having someone in the white house that can execute with some serious alacrity for a Change.

The Freep-a-zoids should be happy, Senator Obama is not taking Federal funding. Oh, yeah, they're only happy when it rains.

FTFA: My beef: While the names of the donors giving to this Committee for Change of course are reported -- $1.89 million raised according to a September filing -- its fund-raising activities have been done out of sight. The Obama campaign has championed transparency, and "they should not shy away from telling the public what they are doing," said Chris Holman, the campaign finance lobbyist for Public Citizen.

Umm... okay. I don't exactly see how it's been done "out of sight," when a blogger for the Chicago Sun-Time figured it out, but whatever.

Again FTFA: From Obama-Biden spokesman Nick Shapiro: "The Campaign for Change is a state party-based voter registration and GOTV project working to elect Senator Obama as well as benefit the entire Democratic ticket in each state. CFC will work to harness the enthusiasm of Obama's grass-roots-level supporters and organize them in communities across the state -- neighbor to neighbor, friend to friend and colleague to colleague -- working for the benefit of Democratic candidates up and down the ticket.

Looks like they didn't "shy away from telling the public what they are doing," eh?

So, the names of the donors are being reported? And, they are still legally allowed to give more money before federal election laws call them "maxed out"? And, this is a similar setup to something from 4 years ago?

And, why are we talking about this?

2008-10-16 11:15:02 AM
If anything, this article underscores not just the corrupt nature of Chicago politics, but the futility of trying to control campaign finance. The more stupid regs you heap on people, the harder they work to hide things and the more money wasted trying to ferret out what they're doing.

I say the only campaign finance law we should have is a requirement for full disclosure. Period. If Bill Gates wants to donate $10 billion to Obama, let him. If Rupert Murdoch wants to give John McCain $10 billion, fine. Long as everything is open for scrutiny.

Most interesting is that Obama is now moving ground operations into North Dakota, West Virginia, Georgia and Kentucky. The full court press is on, and Barack is sensing the possibility of an epic landslide.

McCain's campaign now has to play defense in Georgia, West Virginia, North Dakota, and Kentucky as well as in Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, Colorado, Nevada, Ohio, and Florida.

Losing 2 or 3 of those states spells the end of the road for John McCain.

Actually, this isn't fundraising for Obama at all. This is fundraising for the DNC, DHCC, DSCC, etc.

Which is EXACTLY the same as the "McCain-Palin Victory 2008" (new window) fund.

bulldg4life: And, why are we talking about this?

Because it helps down-ticket Democrats who might be riding Obama's coattails as well as gets more Democratic voters on the rolls for the General Election, both of which are natural causes of elephantine vaginitis silicosis.

It's important to note that this funding isn't going to Obama's Presidential campaign -- it's a Pro-Democrat GOTV drive. Basically, as long as this money doesn't co-mingle with Obama's campaign funds, there seems to be nothing illegal about opening up a separate GOTV drive that might help get him votes, provided it's set up as a "Pro-All-Democrats" drive and not simply "Pro-Obama."

Check your credit card statements. There are people donating to the Obama campaign with stolen credit card numbers. In the next few weeks it could happen to you and you might not know until after the election. One woman called the Obama campaign to complain and they tried to talk her into letting them keep the money. I heard this on Rush yesterday so it must be true.

Actually, if you assume Obama wins all Kerry states, Iowa, and New Mexico (he's comfortably ahead in all of them), losing any ONE of those states, except for North Dakota, loses the election for McCain (Nevada makes a tie, which will almost certainly create an Obama win). And North Dakota is very unlikely to go blue before any of the other states listed. So, he has to defend every last one of those states, without a single slip up, to win. His road to victory has become that 10,000 foot high mountain traverse in Argentina, and Obama's has become the entire Interstate system.

If he was taking federal funding, i'm certain all the republican posters would be in here whinging about how your tax dollars were going to this terr'ist.

After years of Republican candidates (esp. both bush administrations) gaining large amounts of money from dubious sources, how can you turn around and criticise obama from taking donations from working class families who want new leadership?

Republicans (read: Conservative Party as it is now seemingly known as) are really reaching at this point.

Reap, please meet Sow.

I think there was something in the bible about that, but you guys don't really pay attention to that...if you did, you wouldn't be all 'Go war!' and shait.

Fundraising, in my election? It's more likely than you think.

McCain suspended his campaign because he caught a glimpse of a shark on the horizon, one that he desperately wanted to jump. He got there just in time to witness Bush being launched into the air, pulled by a big ugly boat named The Socialist Express, with America's bankers at the helm.

And now that McCain has gone and jumped it himself, folks are starting to realize that you can only appeal to fear and xenophobia to manipulate people for so long before they become emotionally exhausted, you betcha.

There's a political cartoon in there somewhere, but I can't draw, sorry.
