"The investigation was started at the request of a Moscow woman who was upset by the novel"

That's all it takes? Ok, I'm upset by all the talk about war so if someone could have that come to a stop well, that would be great, thanks.

The Potter books have drawn complaints in the United States by parents who feel they promote wizardry as a religion.

Promoting religion? In America? Noooooooo. Nobody does that, not here!

2002-12-26 11:57:27 AM
She wants Harry Potter books investigated ? Man, who stuck a Nimbus 3000 up her arse ?
2002-12-26 11:59:34 AM
She wouldn't be so uptight had someone done that.
2002-12-26 12:00:28 PM
I once read a book that also incites religious hatred.

I think it was called "The Bible" or something.
2002-12-26 12:05:34 PM
Amazing. Even sadder because this isn't in the US.

But BakerMan, I'd love hearing this bit about the Bible inciting religious hatred. Care to elaborate?

And dammit, what's the URL for the Summon Bevets card?
2002-12-26 12:08:40 PM
What's "dumbass" in Russian? Need to ask the ex...
2002-12-26 12:08:58 PM
Read Leviticus.

"The Potter books have drawn complaints in the United States by parents who feel they promote wizardry as a religion."

Those damned wizards!! All the time, walking on water, turning water to wine, feeding thousands on a few fish and loaves of bread, healing the sick, rising from the dead... Shall I go on?!?!?
2002-12-26 12:09:49 PM
I remember when a bunch of my catholic-brainwashed friends decided to baptize my unbaptized pagan ass. They used water from the bubbler and mumbled some latin and claimed that I now belonged to their twisted religion. They said that their Sunday School teacher told them to do it.

To me, a religion that condones that kind of behavior among its parishioners is a lot more dangerous than anything dreamed up by JK Rowling.
2002-12-26 12:12:54 PM
I think those who are against the Harry Potter books should be sued for religious hatred.
2002-12-26 12:14:41 PM

I hope you kicked them all in the ding ding.

Christian Reich

Go suck a Duck your not the only ones on this planet you asshats.
2002-12-26 12:17:12 PM
I just wanna know when everyone lost sight of the definition of "entertainment". Books, unless non-fiction, are to be "entertaining"....movies, music, etc.

Let's get a grip!
2002-12-26 12:17:23 PM
The inclusion of Leviticus blows away the absurd notion that the Bible should be accepted in total.

I've tripped up many "Christian" scholars with that.
2002-12-26 12:18:06 PM
Steelwelder-Assuming they took it out again.
2002-12-26 12:19:19 PM
Millennium, is this it?

[image from too old to be available]

Props to whoever made that.
2002-12-26 12:21:06 PM
Christian Right Religious Freaks probably differentiate between the "miracles" performed by Jeebus and the "magic" performed by anyone else who is fictional - only because of "blind faith."

My faith in people is failing...

heh...the fark comments read like a Chick comic...

I will tell you what i told my little cousins. Harry Potter is devil worshipping rubbish, and needs to be stopped. BUT ITS SO ADDICTING!
2002-12-26 12:30:36 PM

I guess all I can rely on is myself...

and boobies.

Myself and boobies - yeah. That's right.

I'm gonna be ok.

(crawling under desk in fetal position, rocking myself and murmuring)
2002-12-26 12:32:21 PM
DaneelOlivaw, that's the spirit!
2002-12-26 12:38:27 PM
On another note:
1. Does anyone know if Adam/Eve had bellybuttons?
2. Was it really Gawd's divine plan to populate the Earth through the use of incest? (think about it, all of Adam/Eve's offspring are brothers and sisters)

Just never got to ask anyone those questions before and thought I might get a response here. No intent to offend, so sorry if I did. And it this sorta posting is grounds for banning, please be gentle and issue me a warning first?
2002-12-26 12:39:52 PM
correction: And IF this sorta...
2002-12-26 12:40:18 PM
Anybody I did worse than kick them in the ding ding for the forced baptism. I subverted their catholic programming with valid theological arguments, mushroom tea and alcohol.

Can someone please hip me to this Leviticus stuff? Sounds like something I need in my verbal arsenal when confronting the forces of the Christian Reich (love that phrase, Anybody).
2002-12-26 12:40:54 PM
If Harry Potter is a threat to your faith I would suggest that your faith is already very weak to begin with.

Full book of Leviticus, King James version

There is authorization to kill unbelievers, but I'm not going to tell you where it is.

"And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:"

Man, I haven't even scratched the surface on those links, but this smacks of pagan ceremony.

Did you get as much snow as they were predicting for you up there in NH, Ironbar?
2002-12-26 01:02:17 PM
Brilliant!!! That's simply brilliant!

I'm picturing this group of church kids grabbing you by your arms and legs and splashing you with water. Screaming "Holy Holy Holy, merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity! YEAH TAKE THAT SINNER!"
2002-12-26 01:14:03 PM

Think that's good? Just you wait for the prequel!

00777: A Jew to a Kill - The Crucifixion!

: )
2002-12-26 01:23:49 PM
RichardCranium yes, that's just about right, except you need to picture it happening in a high school class room circa 1981. It's all rather humorous in retrospect, though at the time I found it extremely easy to understand what it was like for the old school pagans when the Christian plague started spreading across Europe.

I'm in Boston, actually. We got 3.5" and it was drifting all over the place when I was walking to work. None of the sidewalks were cleared. None.

Merry Christmas and God Bless Us, Every One!
I retract my previous comments.
Praise the Lord!

Changing the subject, I don't know what the whole fuss with Harry Potter is all about. My pops and my granddaddy have read all books and seen the movies and profess they are the best thing since raspberry marmalade came about. They love them ever so much. Personally, I really don't care much for the books or movie. However, if the history of witches serve me well, witches were supossed to have been prostitutes and the image of them riding a broom served to suggest that what they really were riding was a pee-pee.

I wish I could do a Soviet Russia joke... but the filter will catch it. but then again this is a serious issue. I have enough trouble being an Eristic Discordianism. I get tons of flak from my friends who are christian(I am friends with them for other reasons) they are always trying to talk to me about how christ did all these miracles... and how their religion is older than mine... I usually just shrug them off... but this crap makes me upset. If you have a problem with a book don't read it! if you dislike what message a book is giving don't look at it. if you don't like what is on the TV TURN IT OFF!
2002-12-26 02:00:11 PM
I really have to raise the bullshiat flag on this one. The Harry Potter books are flights of fancy intended for the amusement of children. That is all.
2002-12-26 02:00:18 PM

"IT IS JUST A BOOK" you statement lies the ultimate question:

See the evil?!?!

It's insidious!

: )
2002-12-26 02:02:50 PM
Celeberties have tried that. They threatened to leave the US, too. None did, more's the pity.

That is correct, and no more needs to be said.

2002-12-26 02:47:49 PM
Nice to see the Russians like to waste money too.
2002-12-26 02:48:34 PM
This thread is no fun: everyone agrees.

Can't ONE of you be a far-right christian psycho we can annoy with our verbal finesse and our knowledge of the bible?
2002-12-26 02:49:55 PM
Well, at leasy Jackass is not getting blamed for a change

"And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:"

Smacks of a rippin' barbecue to to me.

"Lo and verily did they feast apon the shanks, and the roasts, and the prime center cuts until the Lord spaketh stop for it was time for dessert."
2002-12-27 12:04:11 AM
In America, Harry Potter investigates you!
2002-12-27 12:57:37 AM
Why are they going after this? Harry Potter is pretty tame compared to most books. *goes back to reading Johnny The Homicidal Maniac*
2002-12-27 07:55:38 AM
If they have a problem with Harry Potter, let's hope they don't read any H.P. Lovecraft books.
