Ok, this is the one.

I fear, a lot, that McCain will come out ahead on this one, because the media will be all "ZOMG!! McCain wants to put the country first!"

and ignore that he's partially responsible for this mess in the first place.

I hope to fark that McCain doesn't run away with the election because of this shiat. farking shiat hustler. Obama better follow suit if he hopes to win in November.

This is DEFINITELY a way for him to run away from the debate, though calling it a debate is like calling an infomercial objective.

Damn you subby, you win.

It really is a crap move on McCain's part, though. It's more grandstanding to control the framing of the campaigns. This is basically, "Come to my Townhalls or I'll tell everyone you're a pedophile and a goatfarker," part 2.

The best part about this was that it was OBAMA'S idea to have a joint statement, and McCain called him back 6 hrs later to accept, he then made a call to the media about how HE thought they should "put politics aside" for a little while.

What I don't understand is why the debate can't go forth and just focus on the economy and foreign policy? This seems like a chicken shiat move be McCain. Times like these are exactly when you should see and hear the candidates debating. No sound bites, no press releases, no manufactured bullshiat. Their own words.

If you aren't capable of holding a debate for a few hours in the middle of a crisis (over which you have little control as a Senator), then how in the hell are you going to manage a crisis when you are the farking President?

John McCain is either a coward or inept. The manner in which he's run his campaign suggests to me that he may be both.

I'm going to submit the story with a "Hero" tag and a headline about "McCain gets to work, Obama plays politics" just to see if my hypothesis is correct about Hannity being a guest mod this week.

Nice one, subby.

That said, McCain's campaign has now reinvented itself as a mirror of Bush's second-term run : keep the American public afraid, play on the fear and project yourself as The One.

Funny thing. Even Bush is able to meet with dignitaries and carry-on the day to day work of a president (regardless of how poorly he does so) in the midst of this crises. McCain, however, is unable to run a campaign and carry on senatorial duties. That doesn't bode well for McCain's abilities to focus on more than one issue.

From an article yesterday: (new window)

Senator John McCain says he has not decided whether or not to support the Wall Street bailout package now being reviewed by Congress.

The price tag is $700 billion, but could run higher.

In an exclusive interview he told Tom Beres,"I have not had a chance to see it in writing. I have to examine it."

Isn't the bailout plan 3 pages long? I thought I heard that. If so, why didn't you read it right away? If you think the situation is so bad that you have to suspend your campaign and postpone debates, I would have thought you would have read the extremely short legislation by now.

The Obama campaign said Obama had called McCain around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to propose that they issue a joint statement in support of a package to help fix the economy as soon as possible. McCain called back six hours later and agreed to the idea of the statement, the Obama campaign said. McCain's statement about postponing his campaign was issued to the media a few minutes later.

Grain of salt to take: Note that this is a statement from the Obama campaign. So, I'd suggest seeking more info.

"At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details."

Why not? McCain gets the credit, and Obama can't tattle to the press about it without looking like a crybaby who cares more about getting credit than getting things done. It sucks, but it had to have been an easy thing for McCain to do. His campaign looks to be floundering (again), why not shake things up (again)?

Plus he gets the added bonus of not having to hand his ass to Obama on Friday.
