Very cool ;)

Wow, seconded.

I just want the design for that. I'd have fun building it all!

I was hoping for a Salma Hayek model, but that is pretty cool.

Awesome! Forwarded to both my kids. One is a Lego freak, the other is in the Navy...

you don't often see a model that costs as much as the real thing.

2008-09-21 9:24:11 AM
That's pretty damn awesome. Very impressive.

God...damn. I love it.

I think I've seen that particular model before, but not outside, and I really didn't believe it could float.

Same ship, I think... Seems like it's been improved a bit, gotten a better design for the F/A-18s and replaced a few Tomcats and so on. The E2's are built after the same design for both ships.

With the cost of lego that's a small fortune right there. Possibly even TWO tanks of gas.

2008-09-21 12:25:09 PM
I'm not sure that thing would even fit in my living room.

Cornwell: I really didn't believe it could float.

I'm not sure it can. I think it might be on a platform of some kind.

This buisiness will get out of control... it will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

I still blame legos for making me go into engineering, being unpopular with the ladies.

/pretty damn impressive

I wonder if he would cry if I shot it with a LAWS rocket?

Tiny little bricks flying everywhere...

Vraiment incroyable, non?

They should do a couple destroyer escorts, or a battleship too.

Only on fark can somebody make an amazing aircraft carrier out of legos and there is somebody biatching that it cannot really float.

/And I think its knees are sharp too.

This is the question that came to mind. I'm thinking the hull wouldn't be watertight and it would eventually sink. I'm not so sure about the weight/displacement piece though. Anyone have an expert-sounding opinion?

If they made it just a few legos thick, like a shell, it probably would float.

Standard LEGO bricks float, so pretty much anything you make out of them will float if it's only LEGOs (not passengers necessarily). Of course, even things that are more dense than water like steel can float if they are shaped to include some air below the water line.

I think you're right. In the last image you can see a rectangular silhouette in the water. The platform it's on may be able to float, but since all legos are the same density, I think that's very top heavy.

He could have put in a ballast, though and if the legos are sealed together I don't see why it couldn't actually float.

2008-09-21 1:01:53 PM
And I thought I was cool for building a LEGO Millennium Falcon. You win, sir. Now go build me a life-sized LEGO Death Star.

I think subby may be right. This could quite possibly be the Best. Lego. Model. Evar.

Oh yeah? then how do you explain submarines, smartypants? And undersea caves? How did the caves get underwater if they are full of air?

I'd still rather have the Collector's edition Millennium Falcon . Only ~500.00$ and can make the kessel run a hell of a lot faster than that bucket.

Nice attention to detail on the tarmac. Don't think this could be easily topped, but it could be if it were to feature a decent cutaway on the side showing sleeping quarters, raucous chow hall, plane elevators with semi-functional crane, etc.

/Everyone's a critic
