yes, joe being so well versed in policy that he often gives more of an answer than needed is a big problem... for joe biden.

which is a big problem... for obama.

The VP debates are going to be a giant cluster fark if I ever saw one. Neither of them has a god damned idea what's going on in the world. The question is, which one will crash and burn the worst? I think Biden should just sit back and let Mooseburgers just hang herself.

you have no idea who joe biden is, do you?

I predict that you will see declarations of Palin winning the debate against Biden based on the fact that the bar will be set so low that all she'll have to do is blurt out a coherent sentence and she will have far exceeded expectations.

I am, however, hoping beyond hope for a Stockdale moment.

GRIDLOCK!

this year's vp debates remind me so much of 2000's presidential debates. the media has set the bar so low for palin that all she has to do is find iraq on a map and make a home-spun jab at biden to come off as the winner.

Unless Palin keels over and dies during the debates, the GOP morans will say, "Boy, she really held her own!"

Book it. Done.

The only way Biden will run into trouble is if he comes across as condescending and smug while he's giving Palin a schooling in foreign policy and international relations.

If he does it like a mother lovingly explaining something to her toddler, Palin's going to look even more like the ignorant boob she is.

Umm...Obama chose not to pick Hillary Clinton as his running mate.

Biden is a long winded, detailed oriented, policy wonk. He can probably recite the average rainfall in Borneo if you want, but he's not "peppy" and "charismatic" and "sparkly".

Sarah Palin is an attractive woman with a functional uterus.

The Obama campaign needs to work on keeping Biden from being condescending, and talking over the public's head.

The McCain campaign needs to teach Palin everything there is to know about the economy, foreign relations, education, health care, government, and industry.

The terrible part? It could go either way. Sarah Palin could honestly come out on top if the campaign manages the expectations game.

Working against the long-winded attribute is his ability to come up with hilarious one-liners. I'm still laughing over "noun, verb, 9/11". The sitcom-watching masses tend to like one-liners, or so I'm told.

Next week: "Palin cheated, and Biden lost the ball in the sun. Doesn't count. Do over"

Interesting that you couldn't help but portray the event in terms used for playground games. Says a lot about how "conservatives" view the election of leadership in America.

My only expectation is that she will, in few words, completely expose the liberal policies of the Obama/Biden ticket for a farce, and immediately swing the polls by 40 points, sweeping the PALIN/mccain ticket to a complete electoral sweep.

She is the new Reagan.

Strike that. She's even more powerful. She's like Reagan crossed with Optimus Prime.

Only in America:

Hideously underexperienced candidate with obviously limited mental faculties runs for VP, and in the debate the biggest problem her opponent faces is...wait for it... he will make her look hideously underexperienced and with limited mental faculties.

Genius.

2008-09-18 5:24:52 PM
I think they can crash course her til the cows come home, but there's a big difference in having book learnin' and being able to converse with it in a way that makes sense. She's going to have to take all that "WHAAAARRRRGGGAAARRRBBBLLLEE" that they just stuffed into her head over a couple of weeks and use it coherently against Joe Biden, who has been involved daily with key players of foreign policy for at least 10 years on the Foreign Relations Committee. That's a tall, tall order.

Biden can easily lose this debate in the eye of the public. I say this as a resident of California, where our current governor "won" debates by making one-liners that referenced movies he's been in.

I really don't think he'll go for a personal attack. He has no reason to. All he has to do is get up there and try to have a reasonable debate about a subject that he knows a great deal about, with a person who basically just read "Foreign Policy For Dummies"

OKay people, let's put it this way.

Have any of you ever had an argument with your girlfriend? (For the sake of this discussion, let's pretend you have one or have had one at some point.) Ever won an argument with your girlfriend?

No, you haven't. Because women are always right. And you're an ass for suggesting otherwise. How dare you! HOW. DARE! YOU!??

Well, from the looks of Palin's favorables lately, she's starting to become that farking high maintenance girl that EVERYBODY can't stand....you know, the one that ditches her friends and family for a date?

He can't beat her, but he can certainly let her destroy herself. If he's careful he can pull it off.

Given the major news networks' breathless praise of McCain's mediocre convention speech and Palin's piss poor one, I fully expect her to do horrible in the debate and have the headlines the next day declare her the victor.

So... the best offense is a good defense? Unlikely. She'll be prepared out the wazoo, and if you just let her be, she's sure to win.

Biden has to engage her. The question is how to do that without coming off like a pompous prick. If you're looking for subtlety in Biden's approach, I'd suggest you're looking for a needle in a haystack.

Not defense or subtlety, just have him stick to issues, and not make it personal. Let her personality coupled with her crazy stances be the fall of her. It's a foregone conclusion he'll have a good grasp of the issues.

Sarah Palin is like George W Bush with a vagina.

That said, I refuse to believe that the polls are as close as they are. I think it has more to do with the media trying to generate interest in voting than anything.

And THAT said, Biden should just destroy her.

When women win arguments they shouldn't, it's because of the implied threat of loss of bumpin' uglies.

Somehow I doubt that will be the case with Biden. Sure he called her good-looking, but after 5 kids it's all hotdogs & hallways....

It seems that most of the posters here don't appreciate her qualifications and, what galvanizes the voters, her sheer spunk!

It is the American dream and people are on board with that.

patrick767: the headlines the next day declare her the victor.

Her victory is assured. The only thing in doubt is how crushing the victory will be.

Will Obama/Biden even receive an electoral vote? Will the national polls immediately after the Palin/Biden debate show Obama above a dead-ender 25-28%? These are the fascinating questions that any true student of politics is asking.

PALIN/mccain'08!
