FTV text: The old Freedom Rock commercial from 1987.

I'm pretty sure that this was on the air as early as 1984. I've seen this commercial many times when it was on TV.

Wow, that was real. I was waiting for the punchline.

The dude on the right is Red Noize. He was a classic rock DJ in Colorado and later in Atlanta on Z-93 who died from cancer. He was a great guy with a great voice who made listening to the same old tired songs bearable. RIP Red.

Why are 2 CDs more expensive than the albums?

I'm not complaining. It's one of those videos that should be watched every so often, so this is just a nice reminder.

pjbreeze: Why are 2 CDs more expensive than the albums?

First, to answer your Q: this was 1984 and CD was the new tech. Record companies charged a premium for it.

Second, you mean "LP", not "album." An album is a collection of songs, regardless of the format. You can buy an album on CD or cassette or vinyl or whatever. It's an album no matter what medium you have it on.

Common error. I'm not trying to be a jerk (for once) just sharing knowledge.

THIS

/Anyone else notice that is the most quixotic lineup of songs? Elton John, Alice Cooper, Jefferson Airplane and the O'Jays????? It should be named "Random songs from 1965-1977 that we acquired the rights to"......

That is the very first compilation-album TV commercial I remember seeing, ever.

I never had any money, though, so $19.95 might as well have been on the Moon.

Thanks subby, that's my new shopping list for songs.

Finding a torrent of this is only sader than finding one for a vinyl rip of a Lawerance Welk album.

/Found both

Hey man is that HOMELESS rock?

2008-09-14 2:14:42 AM
It's 1987, so of course the long-haired freak chilling by his van (which is no doubt parked next to a river) is reading the Wall Street Journal.

I have it. Worth every penny. Paid the CD premium price, too.

No regrets!

2008-09-15 9:32:40 AM
Ah... that never gets old. I remember that stupid commercial being on at just about every commercial break of whatever station I was watching. Probably MTV at the time. When they actually played videos.

May turn up here every 6 months, but damn I haven't seen/heard that since I was in 5th grade! Thanks subby!
