Part of Stern's shtick is complaining how broadcast radio is a huge pile of crap, no? Truth tellers rarely win awards in their own lifetime.

I think they meant to induct him into the Douche Bag Hall of Fame but somebody screwed up.

Ir Rush is in there, I don't think Bob Costas is too miffed. Dr. Laura may be, though.

I am not that big a Stern fan, but it's lunacy to not put him in the Radio Hall of Fame. There was a period in the '90s when he was probably one of the biggest celebrities in all media (not quite "King of All Media", but damn close), and a lot of whatever ends up happening in satellite radio is probably due to his going there.

As for Costas, I just don't think of him as a radio guy. I know he has that show, but that would be like putting Deion Sanders in the MLB HOF on the strength of his NFL accomplishments. OK, he played MLB, he wasn't too bad there, but everyone knows him as a football players. And everyone knows Costas as a TV guy.

Oh, by the way, if you don't want to give Focus on the Family a click to see the full list -- and they don't show the full list, just a couple of nominees and a swipe at Stern -- the official press release is here:

Wowsers. Stern oughta sue 'em for libel!

Wait... people still listen to the Radio? For god's sake, Why?

John Boy & Billy or the whole damned thing is rigged.

And Bob Raiford, too.

I love Bob Costas. Best voice in sports, IMO, and has been for a long time.

James Dobson is why I believe in the Second Amendment.

With him around that LAST thing I want to be is unarmed.

Howard will never get in. Bubba won't get in. Ferrall won't get in. I'd be shocked if Phil Hendrie gets in. Radio Hall of Fame my fat white irish import ass.

Stern will get in eventually. Frankly, this Hall looks to be on the iffy side to me. Heavy east coast bias.

I haven't listened to Howard since he went to Sirius, but I can remember the show well...

"Good morning everybody"

twenty seconds later
"Ok, Gary, you're killing me, I said I have to take a break"

The next four hours
"Nobu"

End show

The next three weeks are Best Of.

not only should Stern be in, the award should be named after him

The Chump Line is one of the best things in radio history.

How many other talk show hosts would play voice mails where they call him a "fat bald-headed bastard" or "h-mo"?

You win the thread.
Howard Stern, for better or worse, revolutionized radio.

Seriously.

Its pretty good. They usually wait an hour, sometimes an hour and a half to take their first break. He doesn't talk about the restraunts as much. Now its all marriage talk and Artie falling asleep/Artie's going to keel over any second from a coronary talk.

/Artie got huge.
//Like 310 lbs huge.

You gotta be kidding me, falling asleep on the air?
I liked Artie when he first joined the show. I couldn't stand Jackie.
Artie must be getting too comfortable. Howard should install an electro-shock device in Artie's chair, then zap the shiat out of him when he dozes off.

CravenMorehead: I think they meant to induct him into the Douche Bag Hall of Fame but somebody screwed up.

um, since nobody here actually listens to the show, I'll fill you all in. Every year he gets contacted by these people, telling him he's nominated for this "award". Every year, including this year, he tells them he's not interested. He's not looking for the award, nor does he want it.

and now, continue your uninformed Stern bashing.

Cool. Dr. Dobson has done some great work over the years. I'm happy for him.

drhansenej: and now, continue your uninformed Stern bashing.

The "uninformed" part comes from the fact that most folks know Stern from his TV show, which was essentially "The Worst of Stern" highlight show. The radio show was always better.

/Of course, Howard was old news by, like, 1984

They were pretty good about 10-20 years ago.

\I guess that's why they mostly play the stuff from 10-20 years ago.

Third Day Mark: I'd be shocked if Phil Hendrie gets in.

Me too.

You need actual talent to get in.

Phil Hendrie sucks so badly he got booted from WTNT AM 570 in
Washington DC, a radio station that has the star power of a
AAA battery.

Howie is funny, but his campaigning makes this award a joke.

I do like Howie's show but the chump line is incredibly repetitious. Callers make the same tired jokes day after day.

If you live in the 1900's.

Even then his beliefs are a little f'd up.
