You know who else had a dream...

2008-07-11 12:51:03 PM
Eh, that's nothing new.

Hell, once my dad goes, my other sibs will fight like a pack of rabid dogs. Over what? Nothing. Dad has nothing to squabble over, but squabble they will. I will run away very fast.

Those with money or some kind of legacies just add spice to the squabbling.

This is not surprising at all. Mr. Martin Luther King himself was truly a despicable man. He plagiarized his doctoral thesis, probably cheated on his wife a few times, and his entire campaign consisted of getting people to feel sorry for Negros instead of encouraging black people themselves to refrain from constantly confirming people's perceptions of them. It was mostly just a bunch of emotional slogans anyway. Bill Cosby does more to help Negros than Mr. King did.

So who gets the check for the "licensing rights" paid by the taxpayers of King County, WA to the MLK family after they "renamed" it from that gay guy?

Where did MLK get money? Weren't they supposed to spend all that money helping the poor and buying AIDS drugs for Africa?

MLK's family suck . . . they pick every last piece of meat of a great man's corpse.

when I was teaching, A colleague of mine was writing a freshman-level american history textbook, and was unable to include excerpts from MLK's speeches because he could not afford (and the publisher would not cover) the fees demanded by MLK's family. Several University level books are omitting King's speeches for this very reason

See-once again, a black father abandons his family with predictable results...

The man spent his life trying to convince people that everyone was equal, no matter the color of skin, then his children go and prove him right in the most depressing way possible.

His wife actually seems like a good person. She went against normal "black culture" more than a few times, and is actually one of the very few black people I respect.

No need for racial epithets. Battles over estates have gone on for recorded history. Most are nasty affairs, even wars were fought over them.

I have not seen a single case, not one, where there wasn't a huge fight for the jugulars over what ended up being not much left-the lawyers got it.

tortilla burger:Why is it that the descendents of famous people so often turn out to be hellspawn?

Because this is exactly what ends up happening-the brats end up spoiled rotten with a lot of dough and have no particular skills-because there was never any need to develop any.

It's why monarchies end up not working.

We should know.

I dunno how people in your family do it but this really seems par for the course. One kid decides to b e a money grubbing bastard and get more than the other kids. The other kids want an accounting and need to take it to court because the money stealer doesn't want to get caught.

We're just dealing with a lot more money than grandma's smelly $100,000 house and $35,000 in savings.

/MLK wasn't perfect either.

/Ask Coretta or his dissertation adviser.
//...but you can't since I think both are dead now.

2008-07-11 1:09:50 PM
Actually, Coretta was known to be rather snooty, especially around flight attendants. They weren't allowed to talk directly to her, and instead they had to ask her assistant (who would then ask her).

At least they don't have 9 billion DUIs like Hosea Williams did. Though at least he fed people twice a year.
