This is about as helpful as an endorsement from the Klan.

Jerry was apolitical because he didn't trust the political power structure. He would never have endorsed Obama or any other politician.

"hippe you stank, wash yer ass"? Equating deadheads with the KKK? I have to ask: what kind of slack-jawed moran are you? Is it the shock of a darkie running for President that's impaired your higher brain functions? Did the Doctor just pick you up from some Alabama rest stop circa 1967, and deposit you here in the 21st century to marvel at our advanced technology? Are you aware that the majority of the GD's fan base are well into middle age, and comfortably affluent? Time to update the stereotypes, Cletus.

/Hates the Grateful Dead, but c'mon.

Dude. It's 2008. Your typical Dead fan is about 50, and can afford to buy and sell your ass any day of the week.

Weir says the Dead men like Obama ''for different reasons.'' Mostly, he explains, ''I think it may be the last chance in our lifetimes to get money out of politics, to show special interests the door."

Good one, Bobby.

A. "Man, this music sucks."

I really hate any kind of 'star' getting into the political arena like this. It's one thing to talk about issues, but come on. Because Bob, Phil and Mickey are supporting them, I'm supposed to follow like a sheep? It's almost as annoying as those damn signs they put up everywhere. "Oh I saw a bunch of signs for Obama this week, guess I'll vote for him!" WTF? How about people doing their own research and then voting for the candidate they think will do the best job? Even if you 'waste' your vote on a non Democrat or Republican? This crap of my favorite movie star/musician/pastor/prostitute said I should vote for Candidate X is completely stupid. Damn people think for yourselves. (Please?)

What wonderful respect you have for all those other brilliant musicians that made them such a great band.

Why not "it's not the Grateful Dead" without Pigpen?

Or Keith and Donna?

Or Brent?

Well, technically they stopped using the name after Jerry passed, so it's accurate. But they sure do still make some great music. Well, the living ones. The ones that aren't with us gave us some awesome stuff when they were here. I always loved Brent songs. "Little Girl Lost" with his daughters sitting beside him on stage was pretty much epic.

I know they stopped using the name, but there was no point in making the original statement if not to suggest that he was the only important one to die.

No argument here. I enjoyed all of the lineups they had/have. Wish they were all still around.

yeah, man, just pick up Bobby's solo album "Ace" (even though most of the band plays on the tracks) and it'll hit you how many great songs he wrote.

He was super cheesy sometimes, but still wrote great songs.

Saw them in '95 in DC, Dylan opening.

Three(?) struck by lightning before the show.

I was exaggerating to make a humorous point, Francis. It's not about what I equate. I'm not equating the supporters. I'm suggesting something about the perception of the average midwest retard voter. Politics is a garden! Dig it!

The Dead live on. They'll never die as long as a teenager is willing to open his mind to music that will drive his parents insane. They'll never die so long as people work more for the good of everyone, rather than personal financial wealth.

It's the music born of expanded minds and better times. When things looked bleak, but hopeful.

no wonder they're attracted to Obama's campaign. I think it represents a lot of the same things.

Not in anyone's opinion who ever saw them.

FTA: Hart, meanwhile, is in the midst of a busy summer debuting his new Mickey Hart Band, which includes longtime associate Steve Kimock on guitar, former Meters bassist George Porter, Jr., drummer Walfredo Reyes, Jr., talking drum virtuoso Sikiru, singer Jen Durkin and String Cheese Incident keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth.

That lineup sounds much more interesting to me.

They certainly weren't the same after that

Or Keith and Donna?

or that

Or Brent?

or him either - and even the remaining members knew they could never be anything like they were without Garcia.

I saw a lot of "I Jones for Jerry" stickers in my day, but never one like that for Bobby...
