(Some Guy)   Scorecard: When Obama's aides kick Muslim women out of a photo-op, it's an unfortunate mistake not reflecting the campaign. When McCain's aide says a terrorist attack would help McCain, it proves the entire GOP is morally bankrupt   (apnews.myway.com) divider line

They kicked the Muslim women out because its improper for them to sit behind the head muslim cleric.

I can see how the two are exactly the same.

Yes, the two are absolutely on a par with each other.

This isn't even apples and oranges. It's one apple and a herd of buffalo.

Waaaa! We used to be good at politics. Waaa!

McCain supporters are beginning to look like creationists, moon landing conspirists and 9/11 truthers - bring nothing new to the table, just try to pick away at the other side.

Nice troll Suckmitter

For the last 7 years, which party has been sending protesters to free speech zones cordoned off from public view miles away from Bush and Cheney's appearances. And kicking people out of the said appearances for wearing T-shirts that are unflattering to Bush and Cheney...

/As George Carlin might say "Bite me you motherfarking cocks*cker"

Not much about Muslim women in this article. It's merely a repeat of an article about McCain and his minions secretly longing for a terrorist attack on US soil that was posted just this morning.

Mark the calendar; we agree on that.

What the Obama staffers did was stupid. What this guy said was stupid.

Who honestly believes that if the US is attacked, Obama gets elected?? Another 9/11 level tragedy will bring out that patriotic (republican) vein in everyone.

All women should be obscene and not heard.

All terrorist love a man who knows how true that is.

See how easy it is to connect these two non-stories?

Obama is in a bit of an untenable position here. It seems obvious that any public openness toward American Muslims will be used against him. At the same time, his message is about inclusion. It's a tough spot for the campaign.

2008-06-24 11:30:12 AM
Here's the difference:

One was a simple mistake made innocently by people who didn't know any better. The other was a stupid statement that doesn't reflect reality made by someone who should know better.

This isn't a partisan thing. When Obama makes stupid statements, he gets called out on them. Likewise, we expect the same when McCain does.

Neither side has a monopoly on aides who make mistakes.

absoluteparanoia: They kicked the Muslim women out because its improper for them to sit behind the head muslim cleric.

Even in jest I don't think that's true. Women are always to be behind the men.

I went to Ramadan dinner that the Muslims at work hosted. I noticed that when they knelt to pray that all the women were at the back of the group. I asked a Muslim friend of mine at the event if he could understand how some people could perceive that as sexist. He said it was not - not at all. He said it would be improper during prayer to put a woman's posterior in front of a man - that it would distract from worship.

I think it highlights a subtle difference between Islam and Christianity. In Islam, avoidance of temptation is pious. In Christianity, resistance to temptation is pious. Of course I'm oversimplifying, but it was interesting food for thought.

Because the Republicans have proven themselves to be so capable thus far? I think most Americans are ready for the grown ups to take over.

No, George Bush has proven he can't play with other kids toys without taking his ball and going home. People don't think the war on terror applies to them anymore and are all focused on the economy. One big explosion will change that.

The American people haven't forgotten the importance of the War against Islamic extremists. They've been well aware of how the Republicans have mishandled it and diverted resources away from where it's actually needed in pursuit of a neo-conservative pipe dream.

Perhaps, but a big explosion might distract everyone enough to really fark up the election. Americans have a notoriously short memory.

Oh, for fark's sake. Well, they were acting in some official capacity for the campaign, were they not? So, okay, they were "unpaid, volunteer staffers whom Obama never personally met, and whose actions he wholeheartedly REPUDIATES and DISAVOWS and were probably covert GOP operatives and the persons responsible for selecting those volunteers have been SACKED and the persons responsible for the sacking of those who were just sacked have been sacked."

Happy?

The sad part is, a lot of McCain's base really believe that the comparison is totally fair and genuinely reflects "liberal media" bias.

Unright: The sad part is, a lot of McCain's base really believe that the comparison is totally fair and genuinely reflects "liberal media" bias.

The average age of a McCain supporter is somewhere between 50 and 60. So it's all relative.

2008-06-24 11:47:04 AM
Well it would! Sorry that he pointed out the fact that the nation thinks that McCain is stronger on terror than Obama. In fact it's one of the few things that the polls show that McCain leads in. So yes a terror attack would help the McCain camp. But pointing out that fact in no way implies that he wants it to happen. Now I could understand if he said "WOW, I wish there was a terror attack to help McCain win the election.". But as is any outrage drummed up about is hyperbole.

While I'll give the American people more credit than that, as H.L. Mencken said, "no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

I fully expect the fallout from eight years of Bush Jr. to take decades to fully clean up. But yes, if Democrats take the Presidency in November, the Republicans will blame them for Bush's mess.
