(Boston Globe)   Inmate wins lawsuit to get Vegan diet, saying regular diets are violent. Guess he got all the violence out of his system when he beat his 5-month-old son to death. Still no "World's Smallest Violin" tag   (boston.com) divider line

Yep. Sorry but your rights were taken when you took someone else's.
Go back to bread and water as far as I'm concerned.

Well, he's a vegan. About the only thing he could beat to death would be a five month old.

Well, at least the article some questions that I had been mildly curious about (but not enough to actually look them up or anything). So you can become a serial killer, torture children to death, or steal thousands of dollars from your employer and still keep kosher.

Maybe this ruling will motivate some vegans that are now on their best behavior to cut lose and play fast and free with the law. After all, they now serve soymilk in the Big House!

Human rights don't end just because someone made a mistake or series of mistakes. America is supposed to be above the tyranny of the backwards parts of the world. How this country has not managed to collapse under its own citizenry's lust for vengeance is an amazing historical feat.

Make sure he gets no vitamin supplements either. I wouldn't think they would be vegan anyway.

That's fine for someone that held up a liquor store to feed his habits, this guy is beyond any type of therapy, rehabilitation, or... well anything. Burn him alive for all I care.

How would feeding them bread and water violate their human rights? I can show you millions of people that would be happy to have bread and water every day. Who the fark says we need to cater to them?

To everybody else, keep in mind that people also go to prison for pot. They deserve rights as much as anyone else. Not that I don't think some of them could stand to be beaten, but that's not my descision to make.

If it was for pot the dude would eat anything. Munchies and all. Being a vegan pothead would suck.

It lacks necessary vitamins for survival... I mean can you can see how getting something like scurvy in a prison setting could be controversial can't you?

/The man doesn't deserve a vegan diet IMHO

There are degrees. I don't have much sympathy for pot dealers even though I don't agree with drug policy, I agree a choice is a choice. There is a difference between that and baby killing though, and I would not have an issue with differing prison experiences.

Shouldn't all prison meals be vegan? Considering the price of meat, it would probably be a lot cheaper.

How is a special diet a 'human right'? Being served meat or drinking milk, unless you have a specific medical condition that prevents you from doing so, isn't abuse. Would you be up in arms if the prison was EXCLUSIVELY providing a Vegan diet, and someone was requesting meat?

2008-06-19 11:03:51 PM
Why not feed them all raw vegetables that they grow themselves? Then you don't need a kitchen, cooks, utensils, etc.

Okay as long as they take some type of supplement that will somehow manage their caloric intake to a "healthy" level. I mean we have to keep them alive, that is the purpose of prison. If you can do that then sure.

See this is interesting... Most people on fark agree that people convicted of a crime and serving prison time deserve no special meals...

If the conservatives want to torture them and the liberals don't want them to have any special meals, WHO IN THE HELL IS RUNNING THIS THING???

Hey, the guy probably only meant to beat some sense into that baby. The whole death thing was totally a 'whoops!'

Thankfully we have people looking out for this guy's right to the menu of his choice. Basic human decency. It's utterly inhumane to give someone food they don't like, after all.

My sister in law is in prison ( again I might add) She gets to have her hair colored and she gets her nails done for a buck. Yeah, prison is rough. Dr, appts are free (in house.) If she needs to see a specialist she pays $10.

Since when is Buddhism a purely vegan tradition? Buddha loves ghee.

While I believe prisoners have SOME rights, perhaps this fellow needs to go over the part about "attachment to desire causes suffering" within Buddhism as a tradition.

FTA Chorbajian said the prison plans to serve her client prepackaged vegan meals, including soy milk, supplied by a vendor. Jewish inmates with kosher diets receive similar prepackaged meals, she said.

Seriously, religious freedom in jail... you broke the law, everyone should get treated the same. Unless you have a freaking allergy to the food you should have to eat it, don't like it? Don't KILL BABIES, farkin scum of the earth.

Daddakamabb: Samsaran: n her trial testimony, Moore said Boateng attacked her after she asked him to move out. She said he kicked her, punched her in the face, and bit her nose.

Then, she said, he took the infant from the bedroom, threw him onto the hardwood floor, and repeatedly stomped and kicked him.

Also vegetarian ... coincidence?

Umm let me try that again..

Since you nev4er know when you might go to prison, and religious diets in prison are now civil rights not choices, we need to start the first baconite church of prime rib and hrseradish before it is too late.

There is a huge difference between our knee-jerk, emotional reaction and what w think the law should be. Is that so hard to understand? We write these laws when we are in our "right" minds so they apply to all regardless of our feelings about individual cases.
