Bathia_Mapes: Subby fails Reading Comprehension 101

I guess they've solved all other problems, then?

Perhaps they aren't cutting it as often because it costs $4/gal for gas.

/or in my case because my farking mower is so old that Deere had to special order a belt for it...
//thinking about putting a herd of sheep out back - maybe that will work better...

Idiots! if you jail them, then how are they supposed to cut the grass. Seems a bit counter productive.

2008-05-21 3:55:14 PM
so it's ok to grow the grass you smoke then?

2008-05-21 3:55:15 PM
If there's grass on the field...run like shiat!

2008-05-21 3:55:35 PM
Yay. lets criminalize everything.

2008-05-21 3:55:37 PM
In my old neighborhood, one of my neighbors solved this problem by occupying his property with old washing machines and cars on cinderblocks.

2008-05-21 3:55:46 PM
I say we have a 3 strike law.

Strike 1: Notice mailed to owner.

Strike 2: $200 fine.

Strike 3: Bulldozers.

/ problem solved

2008-05-21 3:55:55 PM
They may want to think about getting rid of the abandoned houses first. WTF.

2008-05-21 3:56:30 PM
Yeah, because someone else growing their lawn out definitely violates your rights

2008-05-21 3:56:37 PM
Why not cut it and fine them for it. You could easily hire a landscaper to go cut it and add the cost to the fine. Problem solved. Next

Wow, I wonder how the US somehow magically got 25% of the world's prison population. Seriously, name me one free, developed nation that would even consider jailing someone for this.

Who knew a thread about grass could be so much fun!!!??!

In my old neighborhood, someone got around this by planting a shiatload of 'wildflowers' in with the tall grass and called it a garden.

Makes you wonder if they pay some guy with a ruler to go out there and determine if fines should be applied.

"nope. it's only 7.38", give it a few more days."

2008-05-21 3:57:31 PM
And why is there no Roundup used by the city??? As long as the grass is green, it'll work.

/Abandoned lots and homes are nature preserves.
//Therefor exempt from this ,so-called, law.

2008-05-21 3:57:54 PM
Cities and towns have laws covering this, if you ignore them you will be fined, if you ignore the fines you will be held in contempt and go to jail.

Seems quite a bit more effective than an HOA though. That's right I went there.

In all fairness we have TV, weight rooms, and all kinds of cool stuff in our jails. It's more like a time out over here.

It's because grass smokes pot. As biology teacher in college told me: "Sedges have edges, and rushes are round, and grasses have joints when the cops aren't around."

England tried it but then realized that they had confiscated all the lawnmower blades as being to dangerous.

Wow. That was totally worth reading and not a waste of time at all. It was also funny. Do they have a "You'll want your two minutes back" tag?

In some parts of California, you could do that and claim it as a ground water reclamation project. The post office I have a box at did that with its lawn. The groundskeeper must have been too expensive to have him mow about 20 sq ft of grass.

Many overgrown lawns in the town do get cut by the city costing $200k, all they are trying to do is recoup the cost by fining the owners and threatening to send them to jail if they don't pay. An overgrown lawn allows more insects and pests, which is bad for the entire neighborhood.

2008-05-21 4:03:03 PM
It costs tax payers about 25,000-30,000 dollars a year to house an inmate and they are going to jail a guy for a 30 days for tall grass? why not just pay for the grass to be cut instead...it would be cheaper...

2008-05-21 4:03:21 PM
As long as the mayor and city council go to jail anytime one of the city's properties, or those they are responsible for mowing, gets over grown.

Grass lawns have always struck me as rather wasteful of resources. A lot of water and energy resources go into maintaining that grass, and for not a great reason. Sure, some grass is useful for recreation or sitting in outside. But I don't really care for a bunch of grass that is just there for looks.

>>that's what i came to say. it's good we're paying people to make laws like
>>this when so many are losing houses.

And how exactly are these two things related? As long as people are not paying their mortgages, cities should not enforce their codes and laws?

Wasn't part of the U.S. built on property rights?

I have a neighbor who apparently got upset at all the letters from the city telling him to mow his lawn. He got a few gallons of vegicide and poured it all over his lawn.

A year or two later his lawn is now just a big pile of dirty sand. Matches his trashy house he never upkeeps.

friggin rednecks.
