Welcome to the new and improved Congress.

And, by new and improved, I mean just as farking worthless as every congress I've been alive to see.

Waitasecond. You're saying that the CHANGE that everybody wanted during the previous election that got us a DEMOCRATIC controlled Congress doesn't understand economics? Say it isn't so!

I guess the CHANGE that Barry Hussein wants is to get rid of those fools. Hey... Ain't he one of them?

2008-05-20 5:53:26 PM
Oooooo... That'll learn 'em.

China will just spill it.

Oil needs to be taken off of the futures market. Soon.

Right now, our economy is being pillaged by people who buy oil contracts for August delivery at (for instance) $125 a barrel, in hopes that they will be able to sell it in July at the going rate then -- which will hopefully be higher. It's like flipping houses, but with oil. Given the massive economic consequences that we are now facing, there is no reason why this should be allowed any more. If you can't actually take delivery of oil and physically use it, you have no business buying it.

Of course, it doesn't help that we have an idiot in charge of the country who is waging wars in the Middle East for no reason. These wars damn sure aren't good for the economy either.

Uh, Obama's a Senator. This is the House of Representin'.

If you're too dumb to tell the two apart, then maybe you shouldn't post. Or breed.

You're right. I was just lumping him in with the CHANGE.

rcain: Make them show that they have a grasp of economics, constitutional law and diplomacy.

I actually think that they should go to a special school. Must do a .mil basic training; must do a .mil officer candidate school (including the 4 year degree), war college, diplomatic corps, and must score in the top n percent of their class. At the end, we can elect one of x graduates.

2008-05-20 8:04:51 PM
Who is going to pay for all of that educating?

Then afterwards you get a pool of what % of the population that can run for elected office? This in no way inhibits our ability to be a Goverment of the People by the People and for the People, right?

And if such an "process" were put in to place it would be free from manipulation on who scores well and earns a spot in the top percentile and can then run for office? RIGHT!!

Clearly this is a WELL thought out plan.

2008-05-20 9:22:15 PM
Get ready for the gas lines folk, the Democratically controlled House decided to sue OPEC's arses so they get money profit and dividens from oil companies. This could be a serious blowback for them. Anyone remember how Carter decided to ration oil? That went well and gave way to Conservative America and the Reagan Revolution. It would truely be a fun time period to live in, yes indeed.

Yes it is. I use it almost every day. Me so cheap.

This is what happens when you have elected officials (regardless of party) who are more concerned with being able to say "We did something" than "We solved the problem".

Solving a problem actually tends to take effort.

They should be touting their rider to the farm bill that ended the enron loophole. But no-o-o-o...morans.

Require a certification test to license political candidates to run for office.

You have to have a license to fish, own a gun and to drive.
I think it should be doubly so for politicians and bureaucrats, because while you can kill a few people with gun or a car, you can kill, maim or destroy the lives of thousands as a politician.
Make them show that they have a grasp of economics, constitutional law and diplomacy.
And no, a license wouldn't solve anything, but would prevent much asshatery. Just think, if we had this before, the last 8 years would never have happened.

I wish they had these sort of tests to run for local government too, like auditor's and county/city commissioners and the like...

/*sigh*

Who is going to enforce this tort if the country refuses to pay up? Are we going to put an embargo on OPEC?

2008-05-20 9:27:08 PM
Yes, let's all get pissed off because congress finally did something to try and regulate an industry that controls almost every aspect of our economy by proxy. Everyone get very afraid that we will suddenly be blacklisted and all their business sent to China. That's it.

2008-05-20 9:28:13 PM
Look, it's not OPEC driving up prices, it's the goddamned speculators.

They see petroleum as a hot commodity, so they're buying up everything they can, and driving up the price.

Ther's no shortage right now, other than what is artificially generated.

What we're seeing, hopefully, is a stock bubble just like tech stocks in the 90's, and housing two years ago.

Once it bursts, I hope those farking bastards lose their farking shirts, and die in a fire.

2008-05-20 9:28:14 PM
Surely this will end well.

/maybe wind-powered cars could revive the cotton industry...

/should come with most bills congress passes

2008-05-20 9:31:09 PM
So let's say this ridiculous bill passes and we end up making OPEC pay settlements for price gouging, (Somehow. They'll more than likely just tell us to STFU.), but let's say they do end up paying. They'll just increase oil prices to cover the cost of the suit. Which will lead to more suits, which will lead to higher gas prices, which will lead to more suits, which will lead to higher gas prices, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

Same old faulty logic and lack of economic knowledge that Democrats have been pushing for years with minimum wage.

That's some fine legislating there Nancy.

Ahh ahh ahh! No answering a question with a question, please. Hard to have a discussion that way, ya know. I asked you Frist: what is the alternative you propose to "a system of international law", in terms of world governance structure?

rcain: AntiNorm: Do you really think Bush gives a shiat about what is "legal"?

The point was, he would never have passed the licensing exam.
So it wouldn't matter what he thought, because he never would have gotten in.

FAIL! they have to set the pass requirements low enough so they get enough people to pass, set the pass level too high and none of the people willing to be politicians would pass.

A very nice thought but then government will = chicken running around with its head cut off.

lajimi: REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER

Enough of that; this is actually a measure that Bush should veto.

Here's your reason you should hate McCain: he is against closing the future's market's electronic "Enron" loophole. I guess it helps when your chief economic advisor on your campaign wrote the farking loophole in the first place.

Yes! A military ruling class is exactly what the US needs! That way no riff-raff normal citizens could muck up the running of the government. It would be so much more efficient!

Brilliant! And I'll betcha the trains will run on time then too!

You know what? I am just tired of all politics worldwide. The U.S. has what a 12 or 13 trillion dollar gnp? We are are just one country in this big orb we all call home. Why the hell don't we put all of the efforts of every country into improving mankind? The thought is so simple. I believe that is what about 90 some per cent of the world's population would want. Why do we let the less than ten percent rule us? Most everyone just wants to raise their family in a safe environment.

Just had a bad day at work and I am tired of people who are on a power orgasm.

Rant off.
