I don't think anyone expected In the Valley of Elah to do huge business, but it was still quite good.

2008-05-01 3:45:29 PM
How many have there been, anyway? And, oh, I think "Fahrenheit 9/11" maybe made a buck or two, didn't it?

2008-05-01 3:51:30 PM
After reading the synopsis it sounds like one of the dumbest movies ever made.
At least I don't have to waste my time seeing it now that I know what it's about.
Cusack should stick to what he's good at: stupid high school movies.

Did anyone see No End in Sight?

^Came to say this^

How much money have all them pro-war movies raked in subby?

Hopefully, Duff's role won't dominate - Cusack, Kingsley and Tomei I like.

mmmmmmmmmmMarisa Tomei.....

You know, I'm simply not interested in watching a movie that will make me roil with anger and seethe because I am powerless to do anything about it.

It's like "Liberal Radio" tanking. Unlike Rush fans, I don't NEED to listen to someone validating my beliefs and opinions.

Thanks for the insight, Mr. O'Reilly Smitty.

Even if the technology was around, I doubt Platoon would have done as well during Vietnam. Decades later, it's an awesome farkin' movie.

Iraq pisses me off regardless, I can't see watching a movie about it. I hope it ends in my lifetime.

You're either a troll or you're not familiar with any movies made after 1989.

Don't know if it will be any good or not, but I like the way he's doing it. Going the satire route instead of making a fetid piece of shiat like "Stop Loss"

PFC Cody Banks?

I have seen this movie. It won't fail because it is an anti-war movie. It will fail because it was a shiatty movie. It's kind of a fairly better version of Southland Tales.

The stuff that reminds you of Grosse Point Blanke are cool but the rest is a mess.

There's just no market for anti-war movies. People who actually need constant validation for their views (via movies, radio, etc.) are not the personality types you usually see on the side of the peace movement. We tend to mostly read the same books, but then we argue about them relentlessly. Radio shows and movies just aren't the radar that much.

Trying to organize for Veterans For Peace in Austin was like herding cats...and we were all military veterans, the most "organized" demographic in the peace movement you could name. If anything, we're the exact opposite of group-thinkers, to the point of it being a flaw.

That's because your opinions and beliefs aren't worth validating?

Maybe they should do a pro-Iraq movie, see how that goes. A remake of John Wayne's Green Beret movie, perhaps.

Hillary Duff dominating?

I might have to see this...

Hey, I'm sure this anti-war movie will rock!

Obviously the "take a shiat on the stupid, gullible troops" demographic is amongst those tween to twenty-somethings that need to be worried about being drafted into America's imperialist meat-grinder. Just like they were back in 2004.

Or so I was told....

I'd give you a popping youtube link but most people just dismiss them as rickrolls these days, that and I cannot connect to youtube because of a farking Virgin Media router on the 10th jump (traceroute) dropping the connection.. net neutrality my ass.

Heres some that are possibly it, I have no way of checking.

Another nice little picture from the scene.

Once again, Hillary Duff puts a scorpion in her pants so she can grind her vagina on it.

This movie is going to make bazillions.

20 years from now some of these movies will be considered classics.

2008-05-01 7:33:31 PM
Saw the preview, might be decent. It's a comedy after all, not like it's some big heavy deal. But you wouldn't let any of that stop you, right, submitter?

I'm just happy that we have actors that are smart as crap and can influence how the smartest of us think. You know, because of their vast wisdom.

People watch movies to be entertained, not to be preached at. Thusly, why these movies do so poorly.

/and, because they usually suck

it doesn't sound dumb at all
who cares if hilary duff is in it

she's gotta grow up and move on, right?

what it sounds like is a satire with balls
although obviously it would have meant a lot more
if it had come out five years ago

Sorry, DrBenwy, you are might be stupid, too.

If you can't recognize something as propaganda, you are probably not the smartest.

I know. I know. An actor said something you believe in. What more justification do you need? I don't know. Because nobody is as smart as actors/actresses. I mean, c'mon, they're good looking. They are obviously the political voice we need to listen to. (You know, because we're idiots.)

Faux News won't even cover Iraq anymore. It's a ratings disaster. Why would Hollywood be any different?

Most Iraq-war movies have been quite good, but here's the thing: No one wants to see war movies when they can TURN ON THE TV and see the thing for-real.

Vietnam-war movies by and large did quite badly during the Vietnam War for much the same reason, though most people tend to forget that; Apocalypse Now didn't start the trend till about five years later.

Hillary Duff only guarantees extra-special fluffy fail.

Do you know anything about this particular movie whatsoever? Or is that just something insignificant you're using as a jumping off point for some "big statement"?

All mrEdude said was that it looked like an interesting satire and you turned that around and called them a stupid troll. And now you're lecturing me (and everyone else) about buying into whatever actors tell us to think? Where are getting that from? Besides out of your ass, that is... You really, really read way too much into things, dipshiat.

Regarding the "peace movement" I have a question. Assuming we don't have any time machines in order to go back and not do the war, and assuming that Veterans For Peace want the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and, maybe, Aphganistan, my question is a simple one. What happens the day after the troops leave? Peace? Seriousely, I don't know. I really never got to ask a "peace movement" advocate their opinion. What do you envision in Iraq, if we just up and left? I picture even more bloodshed than their is now. Do you see everyone laying down their arms and getting along, or do you see the same thing I do, but just consider it "peace" only if Americans aren't over there? See, as far as I'm concerned, I've given up giving a crap about anyone over there, so I say leave and let them chew their own asses off. But, you, who advocates "peace" can't possibly, as an intelligent person, believe that there would be actual peace if we left. Therefore, you, who only wants peace, are as selfish a human being can be, if you only want peace over here, but don't give a crap what happens to the people in Iraq. I admit I no longer think they're worth it. Why don't you in the "peace movement" admit you wouldn't give a crap about a slaughter over there, too.
