Subby, I get that it is funny to completely mis-characterize what the article really says, but this is kinda over the top.

Being from a small town in North Central Pennsylvania I can safely say they are mostly right about it being full inbred, gun-nut religious wackos.

I'm adopted but; jesus, everyone is related to everyone by a great grandfather or marriage of Aunt or Uncle. EVERYONE has a family hunting camp. I had my first wedding the Saturday after Thanksgiving and 10 minutes after we started serving food all the males from my Dad's side got up and left for camp. It's crazy.

I lived in a town of 450. The two surrounding towns had 300 and 275ish respectively. We have FOUR churches. two methodist, a Lutheran, and a UCC.

I can't say their right about the drooling or the Obama stuff. As to being bigoted I never really saw it. There was no minorities anywhere. My Senior year in high school we had an Israeli exchange student and someone moved into the valley with an adopted 12 year old foster kid who was black. That was it. You wouldn't want to move to that part of the state unless you had family there. Driving 25 minutes for a gallon of milk is insane.

There's probably a pretty good possibility that not everyone will be best represented by Obama. Or Clinton, McCain, Lieberman, or any of the other former or present candidates.

2008-04-14 12:41:11 PM
Basically, Obama is saying that the myth is true and that Pennsylvania really is Kentucky North, and the Huffington Post is backing him up on this.

2008-04-14 12:47:36 PM
Bob Shrum? This is the same idiot who advised Dukakis and John Kerry. I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.

Anecdotal Evidence; Well, it's good enough if Obama says it.

So according to the latest poll this comment he made now puts Clinton in the lead by 20 points...

How is being "bitter" a bad thing? I'm as farking bitter as can be and going to be even more bitter if a patronizing idiot like Clinton wins the nomination because a two-second out-of-context soundbite sways a key state in her favor.

If you are NOT bitter there is something wrong with you.

ChewbaccaJones: How is being "bitter" a bad thing?

I've said it before, but basically I agree with his premise that some people are bitter over empty political promises.

I don't think the "bitter" part is the issue, it's what he associated with that bitterness.

Even he says he warong to make the association.

I am a bigoted, inbred, drooling gun-nut religious whacko, so I'd really be getting a kick out these replies if I could understand them.

2008-04-14 1:10:54 PM
The local forums in my "small town" are doing their best to unintentionally prove Obama correct.

I think small town biggoted America should just concede the point to Obama.

And not vote for the black guy.

Small-town America should do something about their image problem, but they won't, because they're just a bunch of backwards-ass jesus nutters, siphoning wealth from the smart part of America to pay for their deep-fried cheese logs.

Obama called Pennsyltucky Pennsyltucky.

2008-04-14 1:13:31 PM
Politicians dismiss or ignore rural america at their own peril. The democrats have a lot to offer people living in small towns, which are dying in large part because of republican trade policies. If the dems would just get over their seeming fear of religious people who own guns, they could kick some serious ass this fall.

he could say the same about northern Wisconsin and it would still be true. Same with Florida. I have lived in some backwards ass places.

Hey, if the shiftless guy with the oversized penis who likes fried food thinks Pennsylvanians are bitter, bigoted, gun-toting Bible-huggers, who am I to mess with his worldview?

The political question here, of course, is whether the Clinton and McCain campaigns can exploit Obama's remarks to tag him as an "elitist" -- a label, their focus groups probably tell them, that can really hurt. Ironically, Obama's the one raised by a single mother. He's the one who only recently finished paying off his student loans. He doesn't know what it's like to have $100 million. The opponents who are attacking him are the ones who inhabit that financial neighborhood.

You don't have to be a limousine liberal to be a patronizing jerk, you know.

I've noticed an interesting trend in liberals (this is not coming from a conservative, mind you). They make a great show of being for the "working man" and "fighting the power" of corporate America. They wax poetically about the pious honesty of the downtrodden and poor.

At Democratic fund raisers.

But in real life, it's not hard to notice that liberals hold actual real life working men blue collar values in contempt. They make no bones about mocking those things the average working man believes in; family, being left alone, guns, hunting, fishing, raising their children as Christians (for the most part), not valuing college, and so on. Liberals absolutely seethe with hatred at these things and don't bother to hide their contempt while projecting a huge aura of Ivory Tower "I am smarter than those yokels" elitism.

The working man, blue collar types, the "downtrodden" and poor are imaginary images to them I think. The real life versions of those people disgust liberals fully.

Just an observation. I find it interesting in a way.

And I though on;y rural folks in small towns were allowed to be ignorant bigots. Very interesting.

i laughed so hard when i watched all the news commentors go back and forth on this. EVERYTHING he said i agreed with. Isn't a 'straight talker' somebody we've been rooting for all along? It will be a tough battle between Obama and McCain but I think, at the end of the day, people are pissed at the war, at Bush, and the fact that they have to pay so much for gas. Pres Obama sure won't do any worse than McCain or Hillary and all three are a step up from this crock o'shiat we've been feed for the past 7 years....

People do not care about religious issues, or guns or immigration because they are bitter. They care about those issues for the same reasons that anyone cares about an issue. It IS the height of elitism to say that someone only cares about an issue because they are bitter. He might as well say that people who won't vote for him won't because they are racist. It is the same concept
