nothing like a little halo of light to make a candidate look unworthy.

+1 subby, that was funny.

Plus whenever I hear "liberal/conservative blogger", I typically know enough not to tune in.

Seriously. I'm all for election coverage and all, and I know that McCain doesn't need to sway the Repubs right now, but case in point: the local free Metro paper (I know, not a hallmark of journalism to begin with) has had only Obama Vs. Hilary, Hilary vs. Obama in the letters to the editor section for the past two months. Nary a peep about McCain, and I'm sure there are people writing in about him. It's like they've forgotten that he is still around.

2008-04-02 11:25:58 AM
Fixated? Hardly! They've got a big veiny hard-on over him, but they are mostly keeping it in their pants for now.

No offense, but do you think that may have something to do w/ your city? Hillary has basically made your state her Alamo.

McCain should NOT respond to any comments by the Dem's until they present a contender for POTUS. If he is wise (which I already doubt), he would respond to all talking points from Obama/Clinton with, "as soon as they have a candidate, I'll respond" and let it go at that.

Republicans should be happy the media's not too focused on McCain - it's the only thing keeping his poll numbers up.

When i see "liberal blogger" I know they are probably going to be batshiat crazy, and I can pretty much discount whatever point they are attempting to make.

Same goes for "conservative blogger" but there doesn't seem to be nearly as many of them anyways.

the story is the hotly contested democratic race. that's where the fight is, so that's what is reported

mccain is already in. he's not a story, and he doesn't have a republican opponent attacking him and making it a story

2008-04-02 12:23:37 PM
Well, a Google news search for "mccain + maverick" yields 950 current stories. True, some of them contain quotes from Dems along the lines of "McCain isn't the maverick he claims to be," but a large percentage are MSM "news" stories in which the "reporter" refers to him as "the maverick candidate" or the like.

No doubt that Obama has had some positive press coverage too (as well as negative, such as the obsessive focus on his preacher's speeches), but the media fellation of McCain has been going on pretty much continuously since 2000.

2008-04-02 12:23:59 PM
To quote a recent issue of Newsweek (or maybe it was Time) with McCain's face on the cover: "There will be blood". The current state of the Democratic party is is where the ratings are.

Correct. Any discussion of bias between McCain and any Democratic contender is premature until after the convention.

So here's a picture of Zell Miller as Darth Sidious:

I think the media hard on for McCain ended once he proclaimed his hard on for Bush 2-3 years ago. Unless he starts "triangulating" his campaign by distancing himself from the Bush-tard (and it kinda looks like he's starting to put out feelers there to see how that will be received) I don't see the press coming back to him like they did back in 2000.

The media could not be more in love with Obama if they were giving him a reach around.

It's stupid backlash for the 'liberal media' shiat. To a liberal calling the media liberal was too asinine to comprehend -- and then it 'apparently' became common wisdom.

And as this thread demonstrates, it's now a mad race by the idiots on both sides to claim the mantel of 'most persicuted by the media'.

Pathetic.

They're in love with both, but for different reasons. Obama is a great story. McCain is just extremely friendly with and accessible to reporters. Liberals are just irritated that McCain is saying all kinds of crazy shiat and getting away with it because reporters are used to him misspeaking.

guilt by association: To quote a recent issue of Newsweek (or maybe it was Time) with McCain's face on the cover: "There will be blood". The current state of the Democratic party is is where the ratings are.

Razorwolf: I think it'd be funny to put all the extremist bloggers for both sides in a giant ring for a last man standing match and giggle while they all prance at each other in a fury of slaps.

Not bad. How about putting them up on stage in pairs and asking them to say something factual which supports their "side." If they say something which is false, they're out unless the other side of the pair also says something false, in which case there's another round. Kind of like a spelling bee, but set up with brackets like the NCAAs. The winner gets to be editor of an MSM outlet, the final four get pundit spots on McLaughlin or a weekly MSM column, the elite eight get an occasional guest appearance on Fox or MSNBC, anyone who doesn't make the sweet 16 gets to go find a real job where he or she is not hurting the country.

As I said, when somebody said liberalism was a form of insanity I just shook my head but you really would have to be insane not to acknowledge the existence of the liberal media or the fact that they are in love with Obama. Hence the nervous laughter when they were so obvious about it that even a crap late night comedy show called them on it.

Then again, this is Fark where the Huff Post, Daily Kos, and a variety of other utterly biased propaganda sources are linked and gushed over so it shouldn't surprise me there are actually Obama supporters here who agree with this utter nonsense.

Cyberluddite: Well, a Google news search for "mccain + maverick" yields 950 current stories.

I've always hated that metric... and to illustrate why...

Googling for:

Obama + Jesus = 2,051 links
Obama + Turkey = 291 links
Obama + Singer = 3,661 links
Obama + lies = 2,284 links
Clinton + tank = 545 links
"Hillary Clinton's package" = 1,620 links
"Hillar Clinton is the devil" = 150 links
"Hillary Clinton won Vietnam" = 5,175 links
McCain + rocks = 1,810 links
"McCain will save us all" = 464 links
"McCain is Chinese" = 759 links

Typing whatever words in to Google and counting up the number of links is pretty close to useless, at least in this context. You'll get a bunch of hits from pretty much any combination of popular words.

So, is the media's treatment of Obama only in magazine covers, or can we include, oh, I don't know, content? I mean, they raked him over coals for the pastor thing, acted as if his pastor said things worthy of Osama Bin Laden, and played calculated-to-offend clippings of his pastor again and again and again. And someone is actually pointing to SNLs skit as accurate? Watch the CNN debate again, please, they were NOT gushing over Obama.

MSNBC gushes over Obama. Kos gushes over Obama. Fox and CNN and Newsweek are typically very hard on Obama.
