I would absolutely read that book, especially when Lucy Spectre pulls the football (a metaphor for the lost America of the 50's) away from Doctor Brownhattan and he instantly transports her to Mars.

See to me Linus needed to be Dr. Manhattan, as he was always the most philosophical of the bunch, but I must admit the visual joke of Charlie Brown doing the "Good Grief" eyes towards his forehead symbol is pretty good.

Well before. In the snippets of flashback where Laurie's parents are arguing (I think, don't have access to the book right now) they reference it.
