Somebody forgot to send subby the memo about WSJ being bought by Rupert Murdoch. Very few of Bill Gates' or Warren Buffet's ventures are in "crisis" either. I know, weird, huh?

It's a trap!!!

either that or they are going to take over the world.

Now that Rupert Murdoch owns it, it can't really be called a *news* anymore, can it? Because news is supposed to be true.

Who names their kid Rupert? Seriously.

First person to say Mrs. Murdoch gets a free c*nt punt

It appears he bought the brand and is trying to improve it. He's actually the first owner of a major newspaper that has come to the conclusion you have to spend money to make money.

The opinion writing in the Journal has always leaned (sometimes fallen over) to the right. The news stories were moderate to left, like most papers.

It will take about five years to know how much influence Murdoch has over daily stories.

The Wall Street Journal probably isn't in as much financial crisis as other papers because ad space in it costs a fortune and a subscription is about $300 a year. I haven't noticed dramatic changes in its editorial focus since Murdoch bought it. WSJ always had "non-financial" stories in it, sometimes those are the most interesting.

But what about the state of poorly xeroxed socialist newsletters?

The WSJ rocks. That is all.

Changes are hard to detect at the Journal's editorial pages, run by Paul Gigot, who recently had dinner with Murdoch.

I wouldn't expect a change to the tone of the editorials. The WSJ editorial pages are pretty much been in line with Murdock's political leanings.

How can they call themselves "news" if they don't report of the latest dumb thing that Britney and friends did this week?

TROLL ALERT! TROLL ALERT!

If you seriously think that *anyone* purchasing a news organization can suddenly make all of their stories lies, you're a tool. As for holding sway over editorial content, it's not like the WSJ wasn't one of the most conservative papers in the country to start with anyway.

/ Can only imagine the head explosions if Murdoch had been able to buy the NYT

True that,Someone from the CBC came to my school a month ago and she told us that you have to contact papers such as the MTL Gazette to see if they facts are right..if you don't then don't bother reading.

WSJ hasn't changed much. We have had a subscription at our office for 5 years now. Probably the best paper out there. Regardless of your opinion of the ownership, the data given in any article is more that you will find anywhere. If some of it undermines your pet theories and sacred icons, welcome to real life. It doesn't revolve around you.

"Mr. Murdoch wants to see the paper take on added urgency and broaden its areas of coverage," says Marcus Brauchli, the Journal's top editor. "He's very engaged in news. He knows what's going on. He's got good, strong ideas about journalism propaganda."

They won't accept his hand printed blogger-journalist pass at the political rallies. Something to do with improper use of crayon, probably.

MightyPez: But what about the state of poorly xeroxed socialist newsletters?

ugh... I went to an anarchist "Infoshop" with a friend of mine recently. The wall was stocked with xeroxed and staples "zines" as they call them, informing the reader of everything from the government being behind 9/11 to herbal birth control.

Oh, and several poorly xeroxed poems taped to the wall chastising me for being a white male.

The Wall Street Journal used to be indispensable information for investors, but now it is just a tabloid barely fit to line a birdcage. Thanks, Rupert Murdoch!

Do you two have any real evidence or just a hard-on for bashing Rupert Murdoch?

It still focuses a lot on investments, but with the internet age, it had to change focus a little bit and had done so before Rupert bought it.

I've noticed a little tilt to the right on the editorial pages, but all you need is a little critical thinking skill and you can actually enjoy it a lot. It's certainly no more politically biased than any other MSM.

FLMountainMan: Do you two have any real evidence or just a hard-on for bashing Rupert Murdoch?

Heh. I've found it's pretty useless debating people who use terms like "faux news" because are too stupid to differentiate between a news program and an opinion one. He probably thinks the Journal has gotten dumber because there are now more articles which he errantly believes he can understand.

Interesting how, for many people, the only criterion for whether or not to pay heed to a periodical is whether or not they like its publisher. It must be nice to live in a world controlled by a few such simple rules. Much like an insect colony.

Because there are no pictures in the Journal those two dopes are unable to "read" it and therefore can only repeat what they've been told.

"All newspapers are run to make profits. Full stop. I don't run anything for respectability. The moment I do, I hope someone will come and fire me and get me out of the place - because that's not what newspapers are meant to be about." -Rupert Murdoch"

Yeah, good strong ideas about journalism...evil, greedy, slimy, disgustingly sociopathic ideas.

Actually, my handle is from my co-workers. I'm a sci-fi geek that, 20 years ago, brought books to read at work. Really like alien civilisations taking on wretched humanity. Since I espoused humanity losing. . .

The WSJ is an excellent paper and I believe well-balanced in many ways that other papers are not. There's a reason people are willing to shell out a couple hundred for a subscription to as opposed to other papers in their own area.
